Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Our small town lost its book shop a couple years ago and I'm on serious Book Group withdrawal....I'd love to start reading a cozy series with anyone interested in a buddy read! I just bought Murder, She Barked by Krista Davis....but am willing to get book 1 of any series to have some fun discussion. Anyone interested?? I miss having a local bookish group! Let's pick a series and start reading! :)

Julesy | 1411 comments Every month features a cozy author, some which have multiple pen names and/or series. You might want to jump over that thread and see if it interests you.

Sandy J | 18 comments I would like to at least try this group. I read mostly cozies with animals, but I am (slightly) open minded.
Thanks!

Betty (bettylouise54) | 582 comments Sandy, if you like cat mysteries there is a cat mystery group on yahoo. We read a specific mystery each month.

Ria Sconfienza | 1 comments I recently tried to join a local book club and failed. I just couldn't read the book. I am really disappointed in myself. I think it is leftover from school. I hated reading what I was told to read, lol. I think it would be great to be part of a cozy mystery group.

I sometimes have a difficult time with my local book club. My solution is to always come with a book to nominate. My book gets the nod about 75% of the time. (It didn't this month, so I am struggling with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest!)

message 7: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments I just put Murder, She Barked on my Kindle, so I am willing, if anyone else wants to read it. How do these things work?

message 8: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments I've got that book ready to go too Sandy -- anyone else want to read it with us??

message 9: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (goodgramie) | 9 comments I have a zillion books on my kindle of everything except I'm not really into vampires and werewolves however I love ghost stories.
I would love to give it a try with anyone who wants to.
I like memoirs, paranormal as I said especially ghost stories, cozy especially ones in food in anyway (your Murder she baked.) best but read just about anything.
Please beware that most of mine I got free so there is a a whole lot with just one book in a series which doesn't bother me personally.
If either or both of or anyone else is interested let me know.
Thanks,
Sandy

Sandy J | 18 comments I've got absolutely no clue how this is supposed to work. How do we decide which book? What then? I'm also not much into werewolves or vampires, but I love many of the books " with critters", and I can probably get through most anything once. How do we get started?
Murder, She Barked looks great to me.

message 11: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Murder, She Barked (Paws and Claws Mystery #1) by Krista Davis We just read the book at the same time, and post thoughts about the characters and what we're reading in this thread. How about we start reading tomorrow (Monday)?

Do you have a physical copy or the kindle book? I picked my copy out at Barnes & Noble because the title caught my eye.....then the cover art made me smile. :) The title made me think of Murder, She Wrote (loved that show!) and Murder, She Meowed (one of the Mrs. Murphy mysteries by Rita Mae Brown). This will be the first cozy by Krista Davis that I've read.

What about you?

message 12: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Mine is a kindle copy. I too picked it partly because of the title - I'm a great fan of Jessica Fletcher, even in reruns. I also enjoyed the Mrs. Murphy mysteries, especially the earlier ones. This is the first book by Krista Davis for me too. I see that there are at least two more in this series already out.

message 13: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Did you ever see the movie Murder, She Purred based on the Mrs Murphy series? It was cute :)

message 14: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments I never saw it, but I'm off to Amazon to look for it! Thanks.

message 15: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Well, crumbs!! It is only available in vhs. My vhs player finally died last year, and it doesn't seem worth it to replace it. The cover looks just right for the series.
I've started the book - so far, I'm enjoying it.

message 16: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments If it ever is replayed on TV, it's well worth watching. Stars Ricki Lake. :) I'm starting on the book today. Got delayed.....I was sick yesterday.

message 17: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Just finished chapter 1.....I really like it so far!! Glad she took the dog :) Made me smile because I had two of my rescue chihuahuas on my lap while I was reading. :)

message 18: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Are we going to spoil this book for others if we keep talking about it? I would hate that, especially since it is turning out to be a good read.
There seem to be a lot of things going on -- giving us plenty of suspects, and probably, plenty of red herrings.

message 19: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments By the way, I was reading with my sheltie/papillon rescue girl in my lap - always a good way to read!

message 20: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments I think we can discuss without spoiling....characters we like, the setting, her writing style, etc. And just leave out specifics. If we hit a twist or something we absolutely will burst if we can't discuss....we can always discuss what could be spoilers in private messages. :)

I like the cover art on my paperback.....the Inn looks very cozy. :)

It's raining outside today....so I'm just going to cuddle up with my dogs and this book. :) Seems like a good day for a cozy!

message 21: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments I'm really enjoying this book. I would love to stay at that inn, but it would have to be insanely expensive! I'm afraid I will probably finish reading today - will that be all right? I guess I could slow down, but I'm really eager to figure this one out!!

message 22: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments I'm about halfway done.....will be done tomorrow as well probably. :)

message 23: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Ok, I finished it. I was surprised, and not, by the culprit. I thought it was, for the most part, well done, but I felt it was a bit rushed at the end, and the indecision thing felt a bit contrived. Still, I enjoyed many of the characters and all of the critters enough to get the next book in the series and carry on. How did you enjoy it?

message 24: by Pat (new)

Pat Amsden | 20 comments I have it on my iPad so thanks for posting.

message 25: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Just finished. I enjoyed it! It definitely kept me wondering who the culprit was & how a couple of the personal situations were going to come out. I would read more of this series.

message 26: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Pat wrote: "I have it on my iPad so thanks for posting."

I read it on my iPad too, and thankfully it was without all the nasty typos so many of the kindle titles seem to have. I hope you enjoy it!

message 27: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mblisa) | 369 comments I have started this book - and really enjoy it!

message 28: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Which book is that?

message 29: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mblisa) | 369 comments Sandy wrote: "Which book is that?"

Murder She Barked.

message 30: by Tonya (new)

Tonya De Lige | 177 comments I read this book about a year ago, and I loved it! Can't wait to read the next book in the series. I just haven't had a chance to read it.

message 31: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Melissa, I think you will like it. I was hoping someone was starting a new one. It was fun to sort of read it together.

message 32: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments I really enjoyed it too Melissa! Hope you do as well!!
Anybody up for a buddy read for book 2 in the series: The Ghost and Mrs. Mewer?

Sandy -- I'm always up for a buddy read of any cozy....I know you use kindleunlimited a lot -- me too. PM me anytime and we can read one of them together -- just let me know. :)

message 33: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mblisa) | 369 comments I'm anxious to read more of Murder, She Barked .

message 34: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Juli -- Ok, let's start #2, should be fun.

message 35: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Juli-- I'm pretty new to this -- do we somehow start a new thread with a new book?

message 36: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments yay! My book is on its way.....I will have it on Wednesday. Can we start then? :)

message 37: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Let's just use this thread....we could change to Paws & Claws series as the header? Or something more generic? what do you think?

message 38: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Julie -- Heck, I'm good with whatever you are. I'll wait until Wednesday to start. I don't know how to change the header - do you?

message 39: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mblisa) | 369 comments I think..the Moderators are the only people that can change the headers on topics. Maybe...if we sent one of them a message to change it? =) Or...they might set up a new Discussion for the 2nd book. =)

message 40: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Ok I will ask when I get home. At the gym right now :)

My library solved this problem by having what they call an "open book club'' and we all bring what we are reading and discuss with the group. Sometimes there is a theme, but most of the time you just read what you want and talk about it. Gets rid of that "have to'' part of it. :) That's another reason I love this site as well.....I can jump in on buddy reads and group discussions that pertain to what I like to read, rather than having to slog through stuff I just don't really want to read. :) Sorry for late reply....I just saw this message on the thread. :)

message 46: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments My book is here! My book is here! Happy dance!

message 47: by Sandy (new)

Sandy J | 18 comments Hooray!! Shall we start reading now?

message 48: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliwy) | 38 comments Sure!! :) anyone else reading book 2 with us?

message 49: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just requested book 3. I loved the first two! Anyone else out there that wants a weekend at this resort?

message 50: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1411 comments I loved the first book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the near future. I definitely would love to stay at this pet retreat but only in the dogs section. Am HIGHLY allergic to cats. Good thing there are different wings for cats and dogs. I wonder what they do if guests have both?
