message 601: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments I did. I had 5 LOL, and I only finished the one that involved 52 picture books. Oh well.... I'm only 1.5 books away from finishing my 2nd year of ATY!!

TPBM had dinner with family this weekend

message 602: by MJ (new)

MJ | 968 comments I did not, that is, if you mean extended family. Just me and the husband. We ordered pizza over the week-end and it was delicious.

TPBM lives where it rarely snows.

message 603: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy | 910 comments True, it rarely snows in the San Francisco area. However, I grew up in Minnesota, so Ive had many white Christmases.

TPBM has been on an ocean voyage.

message 604: by Ann (new)

Ann S | 624 comments Was scared to death and will never do it again, NEVER.
TPBM still mails out REAL Christmas cards or receives them.

message 605: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I'm with you on being out to sea, Ann.
I do send out about a dozen real Christmas cards to people I do not see during the rest of the year. And, happily I always get a few.

TPBM has a Christmas tradition that comes from their own childhood.

message 606: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1148 comments Generally no. Gift cards for fast food, yes, but a gift card to a book store or for Amazon would be great.

TPBM has lived in more than 5 states.

message 607: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy | 910 comments True -- as long as you count Washington DC as a state.
I've lived in Minnesota, Massachusetts, Connecticut, DC, and California.... plus spent a significant amount of time in Georgia where my parents lived when they retired.

TPBM knows how to open a pomegranate.

message 608: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
I can't say that I've ever opened or eaten a pomegranate fresh. I have had the seeds dried and in trail mix, but that's all.

TPBM has their reading for January already planned.

message 609: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I would say "over-planned" since I have more books scheduled for January than I think I can manage. :)

TPBM is reading a 5-star book right now.

message 610: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Spinning Silver might be a 5-star book, but I'm 30% in, we'll see.

TPBM had frost on the ground this morning

message 611: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Yes, finally! It's winter wonderland here right now, which is making me very excited. Too bad it's to busy at work to enjoy it right now, fingers crossed it will last until Christmas so I can be out skiing :-)

TPBM is brewing her/his own beer for Christmas.

message 612: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
No, but I do have a friend who works at a brewery and he brought us some of his brewed beer!

TPBM is struggling to finish a book.

message 613: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Emily wrote: "No, but I do have a friend who works at a brewery and he brought us some of his brewed beer!

OMG yes!!!!!! Im halfway through His Majesty's Dragon for alternate history and I am so stuck. Horrible because after that I only need to read Force of Nature to finish the challenge.

TPBM has exciting plans for tonight

message 614: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments haha, I guess it depends how you interpret fun ;) I am in the middle of making a calendar with pictures from the year for the grandparents, other family and ourselves (it's 9pm here). I started doing this probably eight years ago and I do it every year, so now I feel obligated. At the same time I enjoy it and it's a way to sort the pictures once a year and actually get some of them printed.

TPBM get stressed out over Christmas traditions but somehow still love them.

message 615: by Betty (new)

Betty Q | 109 comments Actually, I don't have many traditions. The one that we do enjoy is cooking Won-Ton soup on Christmas Eve-My husband's family does this and I love it. If we are with his family, several family members get together and make tons of won-tons for the soup. Then, at dinner, the younger men actually have an eating contest to wee who can eat the most-Not a timed challenge or anything, but a definite competition! When we aren't with his family, the two of us enjoy working together to prepare the meal. I really enjoy this!!
Other things about the holidays do stress me out. I'm am elementary school teacher/librarian the week or so before Christmas Break is pretty crazy! And trying to get my gifts selected/ordered/wrapped/mailed off gets to me every year. Which brings me to my post.
TPBM is busy taking care of gifts...buying, wrapping, or mailing them.

message 616: by Janet (new)

Janet (jnabring) | 36 comments Nope, no snow today here near Cleveland.

TPBM owns a Siberian Husky.

message 617: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1148 comments Not really. I am retired now (but I remember the chaos of working and trying to getting shopping, etc done) which affords me more time... and I am a committed online shopper who is happy to let last minute presents be wrapped and sent by the vendor.

TPBM has ridden a horse.

message 618: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1731 comments I do have 2 dogs, a lab and a well-loved mutt.
I have also ridden a horse and mucked out quite a few stalls. My adopted grandfather had work horses which he used to take us on sleigh rides with. It was a great winter tradition.
TPBM
Celebrates something other than Christmas.

message 619: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
Nope, it's Christmas for me. But in a very secular way... it's less a religious holiday and more an excuse to celebrate friends and family (and eat a ton!)

TPBM is part of an in-person book club.

message 620: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I was when I lived in Auckland and I kinda wants to start one when I’m back in Switzerland, we’ll see!

TPBM is afraid of insects

message 621: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) No, Love seeing them up close and how intricate they are. My husband and I never kill spiders, we trap them in a glass and put them out again.

TPBM likes modern art.

message 622: by MJ (last edited Dec 16, 2018 09:17AM) (new)

MJ | 968 comments I'd have to google "modern art" to decide whether or not I like it. I own some numbered prints of some stuff, and some original works that are probably worth nothing. We have some art installations downtown made by art students and I think they are eye sores. :)

The person below me is done their Christmas shopping.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!! 😩
My daughters 7th birthday was on the 15th, so I was busy getting her gifts and cake, and celebrating that. I did order a few of their big gifts on Amazon and they've started showing up at my door, But I'll be making a day to finish shopping and do the wrapping this week. Christmas is feeling happy for me for a change this year though, so I am so excited to be enjoying the holiday season.

TPBM is having guests stay with them for the holidays

message 624: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments No, I'm going to be a guest! Well we are having my husband's side of the family over on the 22nd along with my mother, since we won't be spending Christmas Eve with them (Christmas Eve is the big day of Christmas celebrations in Denmark). On the 23rd we're going to my father's and stepmom's and staying five days - they live in another part of Denmark. We're going to be 19 people for Christmas, and they borrowed a summerhouse nearby for the five of us in my family, which I suspect will help tremendously with my husband's anxiety levels... we wouldn't have stayed so long either...

TPBM also celebrates Christmas Eve with giving gifts and walking around the Christmas tree singing.

message 625: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments and happy birthday to your daughter Tracy! with all of my large family noone's birthday is on december, I am grateful for that.

message 626: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1731 comments We have Christmas Eve tradition of watching Polar Express and drink hot chocolate.

TPBM does not have snow at Christmas time.

message 627: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
ME! No snow... I think the high will be in the 70s (F) on Christmas day.. I'll be in a skirt and sleeveless shirt. I don't mind though... too much cold is no fun.

TPBM is gifting a book for Christmas.

message 628: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Of course! I went to Europe for Thanksgiving and bought a good friend Mrs. Dalloway for Christmas!

TPBM is traveling somewhere else for Christmas (the holidays).

message 629: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy | 910 comments No, the travelers are coming to me this year... one of my daughters is arriving from New York in a couple hours. I always love it when the kids (all over age 30) sleep under the same roof.

TPBM reads books in more than two languages.

message 630: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Yes, but not often. I mainly read in English and Danish, but I occasionally read in Swedish and Norwegian. I have read (easy) French and German books in school, but that's a long time ago...

TPBM has a book they have been putting off reading, even though everyone they know says it's the best.

message 631: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Johanne wrote: "and happy birthday to your daughter Tracy! with all of my large family noone's birthday is on december, I am grateful for that."

Thanks Johanne :-)
Christmas time birthdays are rough lol, but the Dr said she had to come out.

I am still putting off the first of the Temeraire series. I'm about 50 % through and I've had quite a few people say they loved it. I just can't get into reading right now.

I also have a ton of "the best books" sitting in a pile in my room that I'm not making time to start :/

TPBM hates to get up early in the morning

message 632: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Yes, I do have that problem in the winter. I think about my mother getting up at 4:30 every morning when we were young to light the heaters in a completely unheated house and I know that I have no right to complain!

Tracy--happy birthday to your daughter--7 is such a lovely age!

TPBM reads good books more than once.

message 633: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Sara wrote: "Yes, I do have that problem in the winter. I think about my mother getting up at 4:30 every morning when we were young to light the heaters in a completely unheated house and I know that I have no ..."

Thanks sara!! She is a cutie ( with a temper)

I have several books that I re read every few years and a few that Ive been meaning to re read. Actually next years challenges are giving me an opportunity to fit some of them in without guilt lol

TPBM had to defrost their car this morning before they left the house ( UGH!)

message 634: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
Nope, still in the mid-60s (F) down here in Louisiana. It looks like we won't have another cold snap until January!

TPBM finished their ATY challenge this year (I'm only one book away!)

message 635: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Yes I finished it not too long ago

TPBM likes graphic novels

message 636: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Sort of. I’ve enjoyed the few I’ve read (especially The Complete Maus) but it’s not really a format I usually seek out. I’m not really familiar with graphic novels so I perhaps don’t seek them out as much as I could.

TPBM enjoys nonfiction books.

message 637: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 327 comments Not especially. I've got to be REALLY interested in the topic to get into it.

TPBM has all of their holiday presents wrapped!

message 638: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy | 910 comments No, but I have started wrapping.

TPBM enjoys sewing, knitting or some other needlecraft.

message 639: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Yes, I love it! But don't have a fireplace where I live now, unfortunately.

TPBM is getting ready to travel for Christmas.

message 640: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I’m already travelling... for another 4 months 😜

TPBM got caught into the “YouTube wormhole” recently (watch a video that leads to another video and another...)

I just spent 2 hours on the porch watching self-development videos, not a bad way of spending my time, but still 🙈

message 641: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
My husband frequently does that, but I'm not much of a video-watcher. I'd rather read articles than watch videos.

TPBM enjoys YA books.

message 642: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments I love them, I'm just not particularly enjoying the one Im reading right now. Its making it difficult to finish the challenge. Still 1.5 books away and the clocks ticking.

TPBM has a sweet tooth 🍭

message 643: by Entropia (new)

Entropia | 283 comments nah, I hate most sweets, because they are too sweet.

TPBM has interest in ancient civilizations.

message 644: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
I definitely don't, but I do find ancient mythologies fascinating.

TPBM had trouble getting out of bed this morning.

message 645: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I actually love reading about ancient civilizations and discovering how little progress man has made in some areas.

Are you human, Entropia? Sweets scream to me "eat me" so I do not allow them into my house.

TPBM has dreamed about a fictional character.

message 646: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1148 comments Not really. I don't mind learning about them, but my passions lie elsewhere.

TPBM reads more than one book at a time.

message 647: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat Yes! Usually 5 or 6

TPBM celebrates a winter holiday other than Christmas.

message 648: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments In Switzerland we love our February carnival, getting dressed up and partying. Does that count as a winter holiday?

TPBM plays a musical instrument

message 649: by Entropia (new)

Entropia | 283 comments I wish I did, but nope.

@Sara, haha, sadly I'm human with all inconveniences it brings. My husband doesn't like sweets that much either - we got big bag of candies gifted to us when we moved in here 6 months ago and it's barely touched.

TPBM likes travelling by train.

message 650: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I have only ever made one train trip, and taking the train that runs through the Rockies is on my bucket list. There is a kind of romance that hangs around a train to me.

TPBM hates traffic.
