All decorating is done. Decided to just buy carefully selected gift cards this year with a small related gift as a gift tag. So bookstore gift card with bookmark as a tag. A gift card for a blouse with earrings as a tag. Saves my brain

Nope, money is always better than a gift you cannot use, and I think we are more inclined to give gift cards to people we don't know well enough to choose a gift for or who just don't need anything obvious.
