The Girl on the Train The Girl on the Train question

Anyone else reading this and want to discuss?

You hit the nail on the head. Light book, not much to it, overrated, runaway bestseller but not sure why.
To each his own. I am at a point where I run from stuff on the bestseller list because the books usually let me down: Gone Girl, Martian to cite a couple examples.

I almost bought the book two weeks ago, but I had two others in my hand and didn't want to spend more money. The lady at B&N said it was doing really well; the reason it's not out in paperback yet. It's on my Want to Read list...

Save your money. Check it out at their library. Doesn't anyone do that anymore? You can check out e-books too. Then you won't waste money when the book doesn't deliver.

I wasn't a big fan of this book either, but many loved it.

I like to think we are all different, therefore in all fairness we should form our own opinions. :-)

That's what Goodreads are for...., sharing, discussing, even respectfully arguing :-))) our points of you.

Aloha!

It's a hype, but don't spend any money on it!
If the library has a waiting list, then wait. If you're too curious to wait, try to find it second hand. I'm sure lots of people will sell it quickly.
It's not bad, but it certainly isn't as good as they make it out to be! Way overrated.

I agree with everyone. It held my interest more at the end when the plot moved along. For most of the story it was slow going. I don't see where people compared it to Gone Girl - not alike at all
I'd give it 3.5 stars.

The library has eBook and audio. I was disappointed and almost didn't finish. It was a book I can't wait to forget. Very boring and Rachael is pathetic.

First chapter about Rache..."

I had the same thoughts (negative) about I struggled to finish it . Not worth the time I spent reading it.

I really really liked this book. However, I am also one that very rarely buys books except from the thrift store. I will add myself to the library wait list and patiently wait to read it. :)

The characters were definitely flawed, but I didn't think quite so badly as in Gone, Girl. Ugh. You absolutely abhor Amy by the end. Abhor.

Just my thoughts. :)

hated it!!!!! not even 1 star...

Don't waste time guys. You and your thoughts will be more violent after finishing this novel. This book surely deserves 0 stars for me. Repeat: Don't read this shit.

Through the book I felt more and more like Holden (from Catcher in the Rye), calling phonies -and hating- every character. The plot wasn´t so bad, I could have enjoyed it if I weren´t so distracted by the lame writing and the characters.
The only so-and-so character is Megan, who is a hysteric and stupid whore :/
Anna is the queen of phonies.
Rachel just unbearably pathetic, poor thing...
I used to read every day until I lose my patience and snapped the book angry at the characters and myself for wasting my time on it.
Sumarazing: incredibly annoying and overrated.

I also didn't like it too much.
Thought the Rachael is quite pathetic.
Was attracted to this book because of the many review given.

I read this book last year and I was ready for Rachel to be killed off! Reading this book was like passing an accident; you didn't want to watch but you could not look away. I really don't know why it got so many rave reviews, the characters were either pathetic or manipulative! Gone Girl was so very much better, at least with Amy you knew she was a sociopath, but I absolutely loved her character; I referenced 'Gone Girl" because it was compared to 'Girl On The Train', but honestly it wasn't even close.

Read it by downloading from my library using Overdrive. Why a best-seller? Maybe because it's easy to read and there's a mystery to be solved. I finished it quickly and enjoyed wondering 1. what exactly the crime was, and 2. who did it. I'll have to say, having the primary character lose her memory in order to create the mystery is a creaky plot device.
