It's not a 1-for-1 comparison by any means, but it has a lot of similar elements. It wasn't a favorite, but I liked it.

and red necklace the first book in that duology. It gave me very much fairy tale assosiations. Its set under the french revelution but there is magic and other stuff that reminds me of fairy tales.
