I started this last night and already on Chapter 2, but I've fallen asleep three times since reading it. I'd like to give it a chance though, at least until 50% if I don't really like it. There's action already anyway, so I hope I'll be interested.

Sentence structure is not Mr. Wright's forte. He also seems to have an aversion to commas. The story does start off with action, though, which is definitely promising.

Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[Heh, really. I know Joe's being a gentleman, but puh-lease. It is obvious the woman can handle herself even w/o him, and she's not "little". It kinda means she's weak when he says that.

Wow, he's going to help her, that is very shocking. Somehow this isn't realistic. If I were the woman, I wouldn't even care about this guy!

What even happened with Kate and Mod and the rest of the people in the stadium? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[Okay, so Joe proved to be helpful anyway even without knowing who that lady was. Do the lady even know how to compel?!

I like the realistic portrayal of Joe not believing what he's seeing. It's natural.

I'm interested to know who that woman was and who the blondie is, what's the two girl's relationship, and what is their mission? (hide spoiler)]

This is seriously confusing.

Here, we have four groups of people he had met—men in black suits, Borland, cops who are on the run to him, Beauty and Dahlila and Melissa.

And now, Captain A—?! Who the hell is that? Captain America?!!!?

If Borland is connected to Dahlila, which then is also connected to Beauty, then why did Beauty brought him to that old restaurant? Only for Joe to be taken to men in black suits, and then he's rescued, by Borland, again?

My head is spinning.

Same here. I really tried so hard not to nod off but the story didn't intrigue me that much. ><
And I totally agree with you about the confusion of the characters in the middle of the story. I couldn't figure them out clearly so guiltily ended up skimming through the rest of the book.

(view spoiler)[ The comma (or lack there-of) problem still interrupts the flow, but only occasionally. All-in-all, this section flows more nicely than the last. Joe, Kate, and Mod are interesting (and amusing) characters -- and I enjoyed their bantering.

Yes! Action! And there are commas! In the correct places! Yay!
Still stylistic flow problems exist -- for example Mr. Wright changes his subject in the middle of a paragraph without specifying the subject change. One sentence starts with "He" and the next sentence starts with "He" -- but it is clear after a second reading of the paragraph that the "he" in the second sentence is different than the "he" in the first. This makes it hard to follow the story line -- and interrupts the action. (You should never have to go back and reread a paragraph in an action novel -- the sentence structure needs to move the action along quickly. I noticed this problem in the first chapter as well).

Grammar check: "had went" = "had gone" (just sayin')...

But it's exciting, nonetheless!

Hi Charlotte,

I'm planning to restart it next week. I think Average Joe has potential -- the story line seems fascinating, and the characters are amusing. I just got bogged down because there are so many grammar and punctuation mistakes. In addition, serious sentence structure problems hinder the action flow. These are all issues a good proofreader/editor could take care of.
