Happy International Women's Day, ladies!

what's the last book you've read with a strong woman leading?

Probably Ahab's Wife, or The Star-Gazer by Sena Jeter Naslund

And here we are a year later ....

How're people doing COVID / vaccine wise?

I got shot # 2 on March 5. Two friends also were fully vaccinated as of early March. SO we're joining together for Easter dinner on Sunday. Sure will feel good to have a get together with friends once again.

Otherwise ... not much difference. Still wear a mask in public. But Hubby and I have dined in a restaurant a couple of times.

ohhh, that's so cool! I hope you're going to have a lovely time!

I know a few people who had their first shot, and some who had both (people who are working in the hospital, plus, luckily, my granddad!)

There are rumors I might get in with the people I work for (bank) in May, but this is still a rumour. If I can't get in with them, I don't think I will get it until summer.

we're in another lockdown, but even when there is none, all restaurants and stuff are only allowed to open up for take-away and delivery. Everywhere in-door (buildings, public transport..) you have to wear an FFP2 masks, lately you also have to wear one on streets and squares with a lot of people. I'm getting testet two to three times a week, so far everything is ok.

Just still waiting on that vaccine. We're getting a lot of AstraZeneca, and the media coverage is up and down, everyone is confused/scared about it. It's only for people under 60. It's dangerous for everyone. It's only for people OVER 60. It's more dangerous for woman. I friend of mine (works in a nursery) could have gotten it but declined because she didn't want the AZ vaccine. I don't know, either, but I'm with those who think every vaccine is better that no vaccine.

It is fiction and it's not the same Captain Kidd that was a pirate.

Happy New year to you, too, Carol ... and all the other members of Grab a Book and Play Booktivity!

The weather outside may be frightful ... but we're still reading up a storm and enjoying sharing with each other.

Robin P | 228 comments My New Year’s resolution is not to finish books I don’t like, even if I am partway through them, even if they are for a book club, or even if they fit a challenge. I have never been someone who had to finish every book but I felt compelled if it was for a group. Then I would resent it. No more!

Absolutely, Carol.

Funny though ... my husband, whose mother was Irish, is not wearing green. While, I, 100% Mexican American, AM wearing green.

Go figure.

Well, at least he had corned beef for dinner!

I guess the green can be optional if he likes corned beef and cabbage:) My grandmother, who migrated to America from Ireland in 1926 never wore green even though the rest of us did. Maybe green isn't that important in Ireland.

Carol | 4339 comments Tessa, I don't believe I made the recommendation for Pride Month clear. I didn't mean that one book had to contain ALL the colors, although I have found a quiet a few that do. The cover just needs to contain SOME of the colors... (more than one). It's okay if it's too late to tell people that. I'll try to be more specific in the future:)

Carol, I think your intention is clear. The task: (emphasis mine)
Read a book with one or more Pride colors on the cover: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple

I think it may just be happenstance that the two posted so far are both multi-colored covers.

Okay. I did love the two colorful colors. I just didn't want people to think that it needed to be All the colors.

When you get done with the book see if you can find the movie. It was one of the rare movies that I thought was just as good as the book, but then Tom Hanks was in it so it has to be good, right?

I would make sure I didn't finish the book until Jan. 1st. That's a tough phrase to find.

I only count words I find in the pages read from the 1st of the month onward. So if I begin a book on the 27th and have read 150 pages by the end of the month, I start looking for the next month's words on page 151 and onward.

Curious how others do it. I count the words for the month I finish the book.
