What's new with you? What made you happy today? What frustrated you? Seen any good movies lately? Had a birthday, anniversary, wedding, graduation? If it's not a review or specifically book related, it goes here.

Ken Magee | 3 comments Just watched the TV series called The Leftovers. It follows the lives of some people left behind after the Rapture-like disappearance of 100 million folk worldwide.

Weird but strangely compelling.

The show is based on the novel The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta. I have put the book on my ever-increasing reading list.

My number two son turned 37 today. He was born on his father's birthday and delivered by the son of the doctor that delivered my husband. Looking back we probably should have put that in the newspaper.

It's so sad :( about the passing of Harper Lee.
(February 19, 2016)

Quotes:

Real courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.

You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.

The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience.

I like "Criminial Minds". I guess this is not a reading month. Instead of reading one of the books I check out from library. I watching the movie I checked out, "Jurassic World".

Marti (coloreader) I posted this on another group, but I am having trouble fulfilling my challenges because of my dependence on OverDrive or the library for most of my books. Like right now I have three OverDrive books lined up in a row that I have to take, and none of them fit my challenges! :^)

When I play the Scavenger Hunt Challenge, can I cite the Kindle "location" rather than the page number where I found the word? Well ... yesterday was a LONG day. Hubby had his spinal fusion surgery and I was at the hospital from 8:30a to 9:00 p

I'm about to go back now. Won't be around goodreads much this week, I don't think.

But I AM getting a lot of reading done!

Marti (coloreader) Golly, when it rains it pours! First, my daughter had a miscarriage, then she had to go to the ER to resolve a small mass near her tubes, then the baby got a stomach bug, which she shared with Gramma (me), and finally, my daughter found out she may lose her job! If the job does fall through, the baby will have to go to daycare for the first time. Too many changes!!

Hubby is doing much better today, but it's been a rocky road. For some reason I thought I'd be back at work once he came home. Ha! I'm taking all this week off as well. Slow and steady progress, though, and I think our follow-up visit with the surgeon on Monday will go very well.

Despite being home since Friday, I'm not getting much done in the way of reading. (Gosh, I REALLY appreciate all the work nurses do!) But that, too will improve.

Happy reading!

Well, it's the end of March and I've been at home with Hubby all this time. Yet not getting much reading done. I started a book on March 12 ... and I'm on page 172. It's nearly 400 pages, so I MAY finish it in April. LOL

Going back to work today ... probably only part time for a week or so.

Congratulations on your grandson's birth.
I like the sound of Caleb.

I'm happy to see some familiar friends.
I've not gotten back into challenges and such yet.
Hopefully, I'll get around to more reading time soon.
Happy April !

I've been fighting a nasty summer cold. Was home the last two days, mostly in bed (or on the couch) under a pile of blankets. Not getting much reading done because I can't seem to keep my eyes open for more than 10 minutes.

Thanks for your well wishes ... on the plus side I've lost 5 pounds.

Back to being mostly vertical now, though occasionally still trying to cough up a lung. Sure felt good to get up and shower/wash my hair this morning. May even make it to the village picnic/parade tomorrow.

Terris Hey, you guys! I just got another free book in the mail -- a hardback!! Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly. It is the untold nonfiction story a group of black female mathematicians hired during WWII to work for the aeronautics industry and stayed on to work for NASA and help America win the Space Race. It is also a new movie that I really want to see, but plan to read the book first!! I don't remember signing up for a give-away for this one, but I guess I must have & am so happy!

message 48: by Carol (new)

Carol | 4333 comments You are going to have to win a free book case pretty soon:) Congratulations! Enjoy your book.

message 49: by Terris (new)

Terris I'd better start playing the lottery! I got another hardback book in the mail today!! News of the World by Paulette Jiles News of the World by Paulette Jiles. It is a National Book Award Finalist, and I've seen it around but don't know much about it yet.
It says it's about, Captain Kidd, a Civil War veteran (I'm pretty sure this is fiction), who is escorting a 10-year-old orphan girl, who had been kidnapped by Kiowa Indians, from Wichita Falls to her relatives in San Antonio. And it sounds like it's a pretty adventurous trip! They compare Captain Kidd to Rooster Cogburn in True Grit and Lonesome Dove's Gus & Call. I'll let you know what I think :)
You're right, Carol. I think I'm going to have to enter a "book case" give-away next!!
