It's funny because I truly feel each character as I write them and at that moment it is my favorite. I get lost in them completely.
That being said, River James at present time is my favorite. (It releases on the 31st)

Memphis Black, Finn Beckett, and really all of the books I have written have tons of heat, but the heart in the story is my favorite thing to write.
Nothing more beautiful than when two people connect on a level that is sexual, emotional, and their connection could not be had wth anyone other than each other.

Finn Beckett, is the next in the series and available now. Finn is bruty, hot as hell, and has a past that will rock your world. River James will be out on January 31st, he's an ass... that I fell in stupid book love with, like seriously stupid. Billy may also get his own book. None of the Rockers are alike, at all.
Rocker of Steel came from the Men of Steel series, book Xavier. All were living in my head and named on pages way back then.
Each book I suppose, could be read as a stand alone, but each Steel series can without a doubt stand alone.
That being said, each time I introduce a character, in my head, 'CrAzYvIlLe', they already have a whole story of their own. I just have to decide when I want to put it down on paper.

It should also be noted that I love music and may have worked at a bar and met many local bands and they were fascinating to me.

Favorite NA book? Oh boy.... I have many, but I love REAL, by Katy Evans so much that I wish I could unread it and start over.

M.J. Fields (mjfieldsbooks) | 24 comments Esther wrote: "Do you have a favorite author who gives you inspiration ?"

Stephanie Myers story inspired me to start writing, and not just the series, her story. She just sat down and started writing. I have always loved to write, just not what I was told to write in school.
I wrote epic love letters, lol.

Then one day I woke from a dream that wouldn't leave me alone, and made me think and I knew it was a story that had to be told. That was three and a half years and 30 books ago.

Inspiration from authors today.
There are so many that I adore on a personal level but if I left one out, I would feel like crap, so I can't... sorry.

I love this question!!! (because in my next life I am going to be a RockStar, lol)

Absolutely!
Each of the band members has a favorite band, or idol if you will. AND while writing each of the stories I listen to their favorite band. It helps me get into the characters headspace.

-Memphis Black loves PEARL JAM (so does MJ Fields, lol)

-Finn Beckett loves Led Zeppelin

-River James is a Kurt Cobain junkie, so Nirvana is his fav.

-Billy Jeffers is a bit different he loves jazz and the classics but if he were to pick just one it would be Billie Holiday

****It should be noted that River James play list had to be turn off a few times. I love Nirvana, but being in that head space for to long almost made me crazy... er.

M.J. Fields (mjfieldsbooks) | 24 comments Lizzie wrote: "what was your inspiration for this story? what kind of research did you make?"

I love music as much as I love books.

While writing Xavier's book (Men of Steel) I introduced a Rock Band, Memphis, Finn, River, and Billy were living in my head and named on pages way back then.

For research I actually spoke to a few musicians about what music means to them, but specifically the instrument they play. I wanted to know why they chose it and what they loved about it.

I used good old Google to make sure I was naming the parts of the guitar and drum kit properly.

I didn't have to research what a concert or show is like, I have attended so many that I probably couldn't name them all.

I wont tell you how I research the sex scenes, TMI, lol.

Thank you for the question <3

M.J. Fields (mjfieldsbooks) | 24 comments Sarah wrote: "Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?"

Memphis Black- was your typical High School boy who constantly got in trouble for being ... well Memphis. He had a dream to become a Rock Star. What is not typical of him is he made it happen.

He is hysterical, in a very inappropriate way, but genuinely kind hearted.

Tales- Is the daughter of a preacher, who grew up next door to the Black family. She is Memphis's sisters best friend. She laughs at curse words because they make her uncomfortable and she rocks second hand clothes. Mostly cartoon tee-shirts.

Her dream is to dance and she also follows through, even though her father doesn't want her to. She attends Julliard.

That's a great question. I have so many. My walls quickly fill up with signs that have sayings on it.

I will pick this for today... 'Just keep swimming' (from Nemo)

Never give up on yourself or you dreams.

M.J. Fields (mjfieldsbooks) | 24 comments Michelle wrote: "How do you come up with the characters? Are they inspired by other people in your life or maybe even based on you?"

The characters were all pulled from the Men of Steel series book Xavier. This section sprung it all on......

Xavier to Taelyn......

“I want to find the damn kid who was picked on because he wasn’t cool enough to hang. The one who, instead of banging the cheer captain, went home and finger fucked his guitar or banged his drums like he wanted to bang the football captain’s girl. I want the kid who went to bed every god damn night with head phones on, listening to his favorite songs to escape the reality of an abusive or absent father. I want the girl who wasn’t good enough to hang with the it crowd, who dove into the piano, letting her fingers tickle the ivory while she created perfection because she was fucking good enough. I want the guy dressed in all black to have his voice and the notes he belts out to be his ultimate orgasm. I want the people who were told they couldn’t be shit, to live and breathe something other than a twisted up blunt. I want their high to be the notes, the melodies, the beats, the songs that live inside them. I want them to be who they are and be seen. Not what the stuffy ass production company suit told them. I want to be the one to help them find who they are without walking onto a stage where some British fuck tells them they’re not marketable. Fuck Simon Cowell and his fucking boy band breeding ass.”

Inspiration is absolutely friends and family and there is without a doubt parts or quirks that are 100% me.

Thank you <3

M.J. Fields (mjfieldsbooks) | 24 comments Jessa wrote: "What has been the hardest part of writing for you so far?"

I would say the only issue I have is there is note enough time in the day to write everything I want to. I have at very least five years of stories in my head.

My readers would tell you at the beginning, I really needed a good editor.

Just starting out I had no clue where to look. Being the stubborn ass that I am, asking for help isn't something I ever do without trying a hundred times to figure it out myself.

So I suppose I am the hardest part of writing, lol.

In the Indie world....

Billy Jeffers, the last Rocker in this series is being written.

Then a very angsty book is coming. Ava Links.

In Traditional Publishing (Penguin Random House)...

My writing partner for the Caldwell Series, Chelsea Camaron and I will be releasing the third and last book in the series, Jagger.

Thank you <3

I love new adult because there is a lot of opportunity to show character growth.

I have written in a few other genres, including YA under a different Pen name.

Thank you <3

For me, it's death.
I write with a ton of feeling and emotion so when my characters are struggling so am I. I cry with them, laugh with them, get pissed at them and of course I love them... even the nots so lovable ones.

<3 Thank you

I love, love, love Winnie-The-Pooh as a child. Go figure, I still prefer to be in the Hundred Acre Woods.

I could not possibly pick between Roald Dahl or Dr. Seuss, lol. I love them both just the same. Except maybe Suess when I was a younger child and Dahl during elementary school.... Until I found Judy Blume, Sweet Valley High... and then, my mothers romance novels and my uncles dirty joke books, lol.

Had to share this....

M.J. Fields (mjfieldsbooks) | 24 comments Sheila wrote: "Do you design your own covers? Or pick the cover models you want?"

I don't design them myself, but I do tell the cover artist what I want. I do pic the models if I decide to do a custom shoot. If not the cover designer and I chat online back and fourth until we have the perfect cover photo.

Interesting tidbits on covers...
The cover for Abe, I actually took the picture.
The cover for River James, was a last minute switch. The photographer sent some files, I saw it and I said I needed the photo. My cover designer did a last minute switch. I love her!!!

The Caldwell series...

"Be the good in the word of bad"

Men of Steel

"Forever Steel

Love series

"Love you Anyways"

Very hard to pick, but those are three that certainly can help me get over any little 'moments' I have.

<3 Thank you

Every one has a piece of me, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

(This is a very good question, I will have to think harder on that)

M.J. Fields (mjfieldsbooks) | 24 comments Shannon wrote: "Where do you get the names for your characters? I love all of the names you have picked for all your series!!"

Men of Steel I googled Italian names and changed them a bit to Americanize. Then the Ties of Steel came from Men of Steels books.

Rockers of Steel names honestly Memphis was just a name I loved, Finn comes from my love of Glee, lol, and River just a really cool name, maybe because I loved River Phoenix so much, lol.

I also have a very big family, extended family, etc. I try my very best to avoid their names. However, the Rockers birthdays are all my four siblings birthdays.

Thank you.
