Or using it to cover the bottoms of a pair of shoes you don't care about?

Duct tape, it seems to be the go to. LOL
When you finally get to your author of the month book and a book you've had on hold forever comes in

Well that's kind of cool. I feel even more godlike now. Think I'll go delete some posts now.

I am plenty pissed at Goodreads right now. I tried 3 or 4 times to post about the shooting in Kansas from my phone and kept getting an error message.
So I turned on my laptop, signed in, posted the article, and burned my dinner.
Totally Goodreads fault.

One of my NY resolutions was to stay current with me reviews, i.e. write a review before I finished another book. I have three books that need reviews written on them. SIGH

Headlines: GOODREADS BURNED MY DINNER!

Agreed. There is a way to make quizzes, but I don't know if one can do them in a discussion group.

It's not impossible, but very hard to follow. People try to answer without quoting the question they're answering. We had the same problem at Shelfari for that matter.

Ok, thanks. Off to get lost, once again, in La La land.

I am having issues. I am almost done with it and I am not sure how I feel. I like it but hate it at the same time. Writing is so so but draws you in. It is a VERY depressing, almost dark. It gives you a look into real life issues of people lives that are living through what all this family is living through, this part I like. I just can't decide how many stars and what to say. UGGGG Anyone else come across this issue when done or reading a book?

"If you are finding it difficult to write an objective review, try looking at the novel under these headings:
CHARACTERS:
STORY:
PACE AND STRUCTURE:
USE OF LANGUAGE:
NARRATIVE VOICE:
DIALOGUE:
SETTINGS:
THEMES:
Think long and hard about what you thought was well done, what needed more work. You may have hated one of the characters, but that must mean the character was well enough drawn for you to make that connection. A particular setting may have been so well drawn you want to visit there (or you feel your skin crawl at the thought of it). Mark each section out of 5, add up the scores and take the average (divide the sum of the scores by 8) and that, taken up or down to the nearest number, is your star rating.
In your comments, try and be positive and supportive, but above all be truthful. If some aspect particularly caught your attention, good or bad, try and find a good example to talk about. OK, this is heading more towards critique than review, but it clarifies things for you, the author and other readers of your review. If you have to give a 2* rating it’s good to see why you thought it was that bad. If you give a 5* rating the same applies. Justifications of your rating help both readers and the author. In time, with practice, it will also make you a better reviewer."
Maybe that will help - it has often helped me to look back on that post (there's a bunch more of it that is quite valuable, too).

I have that problem when a book is mediocre. Like you said, you didnt love it didnt hate it. Then all I want to write for a review is 'It was just ok'.

I just went through the folder and started a separate thread for each question. I think that might make it easier to keep track of questions and answers.

- Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles.
It isn't a crime movie, but nevertheless had elements of mystery, and I found it fairly compelling, in a weird way. It's a documentary about a young man who becomes intrigued, and then obsessed, with a series of mysterious tiles appearing in Philadelphia, buried in the pavement. The tiles reference Toynbee, 2001: A Space Odyssey, the planet Jupiter, and resurrecting the dead.
Eventually he discovers that the tiles have been appearing for more than 20 years, and that they are also to be found not only in Philly, but in other US cities and even South America. But who is placing them and why? He uncovers a series of clues that lead him and his friends around in circles. In the end, they are on the verge of identifying the individual responsible, and then...
But I don't want to spoil it. It's one of those slightly offbeat shows, for those of us who like slightly offbeat things.
For those of you who were in my Library Group on Shelfari, I created one on Goodreads.

Who was the first person on the America's Most Wanted List?

John Dillenger.

This has been quite a week. Yesterday, during an out-of-nowhere hailstorm with 45-mph winds, a guy got killed by a falling tree: http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/fa...
His two passengers were barely scratched. This must have been a very nasty one; the sheriff was describing it on the radio and I've never heard him sound so shaken up.
Meanwhile, a train derailed a stone's throw from where I am sitting now, and a little south of where I live, a semi hit an overpass so hard that they shut down the highway for a few days until the bridge could be torn out completely.

My Mother(who has Alzheimer's) is being put into an assistant living place. Sister and I have done our best to take care of her but it has come that time when we just can't do it any more. She just has to many other heath problems to add to her Alzheimer's.
I am reading but it is not books. It is paper work, from Lawyers, Doctors, banks, assistant living homes and anyone else that feels the need to be into Mother's hand in her financial life during this transition.
Just wanted to let you know why I have not been around much.

You messaged me asking for me to add you as a friend. I don't get into that. I don't even do Facebook. :-) The only friend I have is Lady♥Belleza because she is the moderator and may need to message me to keep me in line. lol
So, to answer your question about Amazon Unlimited .... So far I have found enough books I want to feel good about the $10 per month. I am certainly getting my money's worth. My trouble is I also read books that aren't in the program so I am spending money on those too. The Crimes Canada series is good and the books are shortish (~150 pages each). I hope that answers your question. If not, don't hesitate to ask!

Hope it goes well for you.

I like The Crimes Canada series also, but there are so many books to read. I might get through my TBR if I live to be about 200.
