Test drive the Nissan LEAF.

I like the chocolate sauce that gets hard when it hits the cold ice cream. I make it with cooking chocolate, sugar and butter. My kids used to go nutz for it.

Carol | 10410 comments Are they targeting the ads for my computer, because I have car ads now.

message 60: by Stephen (new)

Below the discussion search window there's a sponsored books block then one ad (which for me now shows Verizon) is that the block you're talking about. ...Misleading chocolatey goodness now..

Stephen (havan) | 1026 comments Gabi wrote: "Maybe you don't get them if you don't use Google. What else is there? I keep getting confused between search engines and internet supplier ..."

OK but if we discuss this much we'll ALL be getting internet provider ads.

Your Internet provider MAY be the phone company or the cable TV company or something else. Verizon, and Bright House are the biggies in my area. There are even a few satellite feeds available as well, not to mention a number of dial-up services for those who haven't moved to broadband.

Search engines are a websites that you can surf to regardless of which internet provider you use or what e-mail or what web browser you use. The most common are Google, Yahoo and the newbie BING. Most offer browser add-ons that allow you to search from any web page by adding a toolbar to the top of your screen.

Web Browsers are the programs that present web content. The most common are Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari (for Apple). My first was Netscape back when you actually BOUGHT web browsing software.

What's the word for the top part of a door frame.

message 87: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments door-head next

message 88: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments door-frame. Frame to which a door is hung set in a reveal in a doorway. The verticals of the frame are the door-checks, -jambs, or -posts, and the top part is the door-head.

Scribble Orca (scribbleorca) | 631 comments Newengland wrote: "What's the word for the top part of a door frame."

Do you mean the structural (as in weight-bearing) or the finishing? Lintel if weight bearing (and not usually visible to the eye, because of the finishing). Otherwise architrave, which refers to the moulding or finishing around the doorway.

message 93: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
I was thinking lintel, but if GN is RIGHT, then I'm wrong because the lintel is hidden by the architrave just like my heart is hidden by my chest.

message 97: by Scribble (new)

Scribble Orca (scribbleorca) | 631 comments Susanne (Savvy Suz) wrote: "gastropods???"

Hey Savvy Suz, hello. I meant collective noun for the situation where a 'group' of slugs are having a slime-in. 'group' sounds...well...odd.

Stephen (havan) | 1026 comments G N wrote: "the collective noun for slugs? not escargatoire please."

Sorry words fail me and so does http://www.rinkworks.com/words/collec...

An alternative site http://www.ojohaven.com/collectives/ suggests a "cornucopia of slugs" but that doesn't seem quite right to me. ... and how much faith can one have in a site that includes "A whored of prostitutes" and a "wiggle of Elvis impersonators" among their collectives?

I suppose in a pinch one could resort to the generic "an infestation" but then, it's probably best NOT to pinch slugs...

I think in cases like these it's best to create one's own. And they are hermaphropitic so it's not like we need two. Perhaps a slither of slugs or a slime of slugs or even a shaker of slugs since salt is known to kill them. But, best NOT to use that particular appelation around Santa Cruz California where a banana slug named "Sammy" is the mascot of the University of California at Santa Cruz!

Gee! I'd hate to be on THEIR track team.
