I really enjoy Seven Wonders, though I rarely win. Everybody knows I can't figure out how the green cards work so I always ignore them, and they exploit this knowledge shamefully.

I'm not crazy about the original Catan game, but I like the Star Trek and Seafarers versions.

Karina | 1069 comments Hi! This is my second year with this group, which I love. Love this community and I realized I don't think I have ever properly introduced myself!
My name is Karina, I'm 31 and I live in Connecticut with my husband, dog, and three cats. I am originally from Rhode Island but moved out here where my husband is from. I am only about an hour and a half from my family, so it's the perfect distance! I love to read (obviously) and I love yoga, running, working out, traveling and the beach!
I love mysteries but branching out with the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die List (I love classics!) and I am a part of three book clubs here in CT which has really expanded the types of books I read. And I like to do puzzles with my husband, when my cats aren't knocking the pieces around...

Thanks for your introduction, Karina! My boss's son lives in Southington. And my husband and I were down in Waterbury in June. Down because I'm in NH. lol. We also hit Foxwood's or Mohegan Sun a few times a year.

Belated welcome Karina from Connecticut! That is an area of the country I am not so familiar with. I love mysteries too if you ever want to talk mysteries.

Donna (weegraydog) (weegraydog) Hi: I'm Donna, and I'm in a mystery group with Dawn Michelle, so I discovered this group through her profile page. I'm currently at 66 books for the year, and am hoping to make it to 75 books for the year, and would like to make 75 books a year my goal for the next few years as well. I'm retired, and am loving being able to read more. I hope you are all having a great year of reading in 2018. I live in Southern California, and mystery is my favorite genre.

Tina | 3 comments Hi, I'm new here. My name is Tina and I live in the Denver Metro area. I am a fan of many genres and am glad to be here. I am in my early 50's and am a disable veteran. My hobbies include gardening, cooking, and Japanese embroidery. I'm hoping to make some friends and read some books. 75 books in a year seems a lot but I'm up for it. I'd love book ideas because I can't seem to find many I like. My favorites are character driven, first person with a female protagonist in different genres but like I said, I like many different books. Mystery, fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, memoirs, etc. Thanks for having me here.

Hi Joanne, I do the Japanese embroidery called Bunka. It's not really that well know. It's a punch embroidery and when finished actually looks like oil painting -from a distance. It's quite easy and beautiful. I'm looking forward to getting to know the people here and get recommendations from everyone.

Hi Connie! Welcome to the group. I feel the same way you do about mysteries... if I don't watch it that is ALL I read. Am currently reading Valhalla (Lexy Vaughan & Steven Macaulay #1) by Robert J. Mrazek. It is probably more like an adventure, but it is still good.

I will have to check out Valhalla (Lexy Vaughan & Steven Macaulay #1) by Robert J. Mrazek - I am currently reading House of Spies (Gabriel Allon series #17) by Daniel Silva - more of a spy mystery. I am working my way through the series.

I guess I should introduce myself here too. I am Juli, one of your moderators - brand new to the job. I've always loved reading. I grew up in a house of bookbinders (my home town is the book city of Germany!) and my dad belongs to the golden collectors of Germany (aka he has more than 5000 collectible books, um I know, that's a lot). Between coloring in trial books (books where my grandpa would practice a new binding technique on blank pages, which then became my sketchbooks) and wandering the isles of antiquarian bookshops, I spent my childhood reading, reading, reading, and getting in trouble. I am a huge fan of everything horror, twisted, paranormal, frightening, and plain weird. I prefer language over plot (though that might be a German literary thing). I love my puppies and sometimes my cat (she is a total diva) and I am trying to work on my writing on my blog. I am a scientist by day and a book critic by night.

message 189: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie (whisperwitch) Hi folks, My name is Bonnie, and I'm currently residing in Florida. Reading is honestly my happy place, so I do a lot of it! Last year, I had the goal of reading 200, and didn't quite make it, so this year, I'm knocking that in half, though if I get close to my goal early, I'll most likely add to it.

Currently, I've decided to get get myself out of the book rut I've been in, (I compulsively re-read books I know and love, and avoid new things...) by downloading almost all of the free available books in the Kindle store, I plan on reading all 109 of them and reviewing them here on Goodreads, effectively pushing me out of my comfort zone. I'm sure I'm in for some interesting things, lol!

Anyway, Nice to meet ya'll and I look forward to seeing what goes on here!

Bonnie - a BIG warm welcome to our little group!!! I love sunny Florida. Almost moved there when I was there on vacation in August and family had a change of heart fairly deep into the process. It is interesting you like to reread books, I actually am bothered by rereading books. It is a great effort for me to do so because I know it is one less new book I will be able to read in my lifetime - so dramatic huh??

So happy to have you as part of our group!

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments Andrea wrote: "It is a great effort for me to do so because I know it is one less new book I will be able to read in my lifetime - so dramatic huh?? ..."

And to me that feels like saying 'There are only so many people I can meet in one lifetime so I don't talk to people I've already met.' It's so weird when I run into people who don't reread (in a good way- it reminds me to explore beyond my circle of Besties because there are new Besties out there just waiting for me, LOL)

Welcome, Bonnie! I think you'll find lots of like minds here, as well as lots of folks happy to help expand your reading horizons (lots! I've added so many things to my 'want to read' list that I didn't even know existed before someone here posted about it). I like this group because everyone is equally supportive of tootling along in a comfortable 'rut' or venturing out of it into new territory, and everyone is happy about what everyone else is reading even when tastes don't overlap. It's a good corner of the internet ;)
