Hi Jessica! Welcome to the group. I like supernatural, too. Especially this time of year.
A BIG warm welcome Jessica and Rafeal!! We love having new members and hope you enjoy being part of our little group :)

Hi Rafael! Welcome! I like travel too, but since I can't afford it, I try to read about travel and other countries. Am trying to beef up my world fiction file.

Welcome to the group! What kind of books do you like?

Sounds like we have similar tastes.

My tastes are pretty eclectic, but I particularly enjoy contemporary fiction, historical fiction, young adult, crime/mystery, poetry, the classics, and history. I'm also a big Harry Potter fan. I love nature and walking with my dog, knitting and other crafts, traveling and sight-seeing, learning new things, cosy chats in the pub with friends, etc. Looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading! :)

Welcome, Amy! Seeking out book groups on a book website? Yes, you are obsessed. ;) Join the club! Oh wait, you did! lol. Potterhead here too! We're going to be doing a buddy listen starting on HP's birthday of the whole series on audio! I haven't listened to the audiobooks yet and I can't wait!

Thanks Elyse! That sounds like a lot of fun, I haven't listened to all of the audiobooks either :)

Hi Amy! Welcome to the group.

Welcome, from another Potterhead (there are several of us here)! You've got a fair bit of overlap in tastes with several members of this group- I hope you were looking to explode your Want to Read pile, because that's what happens here :D

Only about 30... or 40... not including ebooks... lol.
Thanks, I think I will :)
My goal is to purge my books to what can fit on the small bookshelf I use as a nightstand. I used to have about 2000. I am down to about 750 now.

We are planning on moving at some point so I am trying to purge all areas of my house. The books have been purged several times but each time I am able to let go of more that I felt I couldn't before. It is the same with clothes....hahaha

I'm up to 1327 in my library of physical books. And they're all cataloged on my Goodreads shelf! :D I have stacks on the floor now because I don't have enough bookcases. We're planning on buying 2 more and moving my desk out of my library so it will solely be the library. lol. But we bought this house, our dream house, 2 years ago and never planning on moving again! I've got my library and my husband has his man cave. lol. I have a problem...let's not talk about the 2000+ Kindle books...only a few of those are duplicates of physical books. Maybe 10-20.

I also should add that I would not be purging my collection if we were not moving in the next couple of years. We are most likely moving from MA to FL and it would not be financial sane to move so many books.
I also am a scrapbooker, and that stuff takes up a lot of room!! I really won't have the space when we move for both a library and a craftroom. Since I mostly read on my kindle at night and listen to audio books on my commute I read so few physicals books now. I never thought that I would make the transition but it just naturally happened over the past decade. In our new house I will most likely carve out a little nook with a chaise and a bookshelf and that will become my library nook...lol

Joanne,
My Library also lets us borrow electronically from 2 other local networks. I do still love the feel of a physical book but I'm a convert :)

I believe Audible is integrated into the Kindles now? You still have to buy both versions of the book though. So stupid. You should only have to pay a couple bucks to get the audio version if you own the e-book! Some cases that does happen but most of the time it's another $12-15 for the audio version.

Yeah, I think Kobo tends to be a little more like an iPad in that respect.

I have been looking for a group to join and chose this one because I liked that it was a different then others I looked at. I am looking forward to being apart of the discussions and sharing about what I have been reading!

I have given it some thought but I honestly have no ideas! lol. Maybe we should do a poll and ask the members!

I'm open to a change if people agree. Karol, this was really your group and we have carried it on with not many changes. At least for me this group is more about the people than anything else :)

I'm in my late 40s and live with my husband in northern Colorado. I'm a non-mommy with entirely too many hobbies, including D&D (5e), board games, SCA, cooking, embroidery, and acquiring books. It's not hoarding if it's books.
I'm a lifelong mystery buff but I also enjoy cross-genre stuff and expanding my reading horizons. I'm a writer and musician, and to bolster my travel/research budget, I do bookkeeping for a card and gift shop (The Right Card -- it's awesome, stop by if you're in the neighborhood) in Old Town Fort Collins and occasionally score standardized test essays. My favorite thing about that is that my actual job title is Reader.
These days, I'm workshopping a screenplay (think Rear Window meets American Psycho), putting together some flute/lute duets with a friend, devising my own piano method, and pantsing a novel in 3-minute chunks for DimeStories.
Hi Stina!
Welcome to our little group, so happy to have you :) Colororado is so beautiful, I hope to visit there someday.

Welcome Stina! You sound like you have a lot of fun hobbies. I am a mystery fanatic, too. Hope to talk about mysteries with you some time.

Welcome, Stina, thanks for joining! My husband plays D&D 3 nights a week; one session at our house, one online, and one at a local comic book store. So I know D&D. lol

Welcome! Do you play both flute and lute? I've always wished I were better at music (I played flute ages ago, but I was never very good and I don't have a soundproof room to practice in, lol). I've got several friends that play D&D 5e, but the last game I played (and thus, what all of my materials are for) we were using 2e and I haven't decided if I really want to dive into the new changes (I feel like I should maybe have a 'Get off my lawn!' sign somewhere)

Thank you for the warm welcome! I hope you can make it out someday. Let me know if you want any recommendations. It's a big state with so much to explore!

Recently some of us played a one-off game. All bards except for a ranger roadie. I played a half-orc stripper named Bloodstone. My husband played a gnome kazoo-ist named Scrappy Cornelius Doo, and we named our merry troupe Puppy Power.
I hadn't played since about 1982 when I got back into it a year or so ago, so except for a brief solo foray into Pathfinder, 5e is pretty much all I know. And I've found different DMs manage things so differently from each other! But I'm reading through the PHB and Xanathar's, and it seems pretty well put together. I think a lot of material is available online for free or for cheap if you want to take a look before you commit, Stacie. Or check the local game shops to see if anybody runs 5e intro sessions.
I don't play lute at all, but a book club friend does, so I'm arranging some old songs into duets. I hope it turns out well. And then maybe I can tackle that harp I bought in July. :-)

We have most of the expansions of Carcssonne and it's one of my favorites to play. I also enjoy Abyss and I love Ticket to Ride. My husband and his D&D friends are also big on board games. They've committed days to Twilight Imperium, Cosmic Encounters, and Star Wars Imperial Assault.

We bought the Big Box of Carcassonne a few years ago and have been having fun exploring the expansions. We just went to a friend's game night yesterday and I played Ticket to Ride for the first time in a very long time. I'd never played the Europe map before, and I think I like it better than the original. We also played Forbidden Desert, a cooperative game, and lost very, very badly.
