I would say which one your more passionate about but also, I'd look at the number of each, and how much money they make, that way you'll have the money for the other one sooner!

Agreed - I'd think about which one excites you more. If you're going online to see if there's activity, which one will you go to first?

It's not necessary, really, to host either one. My own blog has been on Wordpress.com for 5 years and I have no particular desire to move it. I wouldn't break the bank for it. Maybe you want to save the money for buying the occasional stock pic or other enhancements.
