Tracey (trakka) | 38 comments If it is, there is a link at the bottom of the article where you can leave feedback which I have just done. I like the "groups" option on the menu bar at the moment but this disappears in the new world.

Thank goodness someone else noticed it! It's a slight change but totally threw me off. Right in the middle of one of my clean up sessions . . . which is really cutting into my reading time! I've only got a few days left before Shelfari is totally gone so I'm working like made. I'm finding that lots of times I have duplicates now!

Leave it to another librarian to notice!

Lauren (laurenjberman) The navigation bar change has been in the works for a few weeks.
I highly recommend that everyone join the Goodreads Feedback group where many of the site updates are beta tested. This will also give you a heads up on any planned changes and a place to ask questions and give and see the reactions of other long time members. Its a very useful group.

Thanks for that info. I'll have to go check it out. However, right now, keeping up with any group discussions has been very difficult as I try to adjust to this move and get my db of books corrected. It was a shock to see this change last night so I'd like to avoid that kind of thing - knowing ahead would be good.

Tracey (trakka) | 38 comments Ahhh so it is the navigation bar change!!

I haven't had the change yet so hence my question with regards to what the change was.... I was wondering if I was missing something else!

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments I don't have it yet, either.

Liz (Bugetta) (bugetta) | 6 comments Mine hasn't changed yet either. Are the links to "My Books" and "Groups" still there? I use those all the time.

Mine just popped up while I was checking out some titles. After showing "goodreads" to the extreme left--the headings are My books, Browse and Community (this is where the groups show up in the drop down. Then there's a search box. On the right are circles with pictures--notifications, messages, friends and then your profile picture. Not really much different--just a different look. Can't just leave well enough alone!! :)

Thanks, Beverly. As long as I can still easily get to those two items, I'll be happy (after some initial grumbling, I'm sure. :)).

I just noticed there wasn't a "home" option any longer. You just double click on "goodreads" and it will take you there.

message 112: by Liz (Bugetta) (new)

Liz (Bugetta) (bugetta) | 6 comments I never noticed that there was a "home" button until I heard about theses changes. I've always just clicked on the big "Goodreads" to go to the main page, so at least that's one new thing I won't have to get used to. :-D

message 113: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments Well, the things that used to take me one step to access now take two.

Nothing about the change is useful for my purposes. I'll adapt but this was nonsensical.

Yeah, that seems to be the way of these "upgrades." They upgraded one of the systems I use at work with a similar type of set-up and now it takes more clicks to get to the places I want to go. It looks much cleaner, which web designers really seem to love, but from a user's perspective it's less efficient.

message 115: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments They seem to be on a design kick...cosmetic only.

message 116: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Yes, they seem to be rolling out the change slowly. I didn't have it yesterday but I have it today.

On the whole, I like the changes especially the fixed navigation bar. I don't have to scroll to the top every time I want to get to my books.

message 117: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments My navigation bar isn't fixed.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Jonetta wrote: "My navigation bar isn't fixed."

It's only on the desktop version not mobile devices.

message 119: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments I'm using the desktop version.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Jonetta wrote: "I'm using the desktop version."

That's strange. The navigation bar stays fixed for me in Safari, Firefox and Chrome. I don't have explorer so I didn't check that one.

message 121: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments I'd really like it if it stayed fixed! As it stands now, I'm not seeing any of the benefits of this change.

message 122: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I wonder if its a setting in your browser preferences.

message 123: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments I'll check and see.

Maybe its a cache thing?

message 126: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments I shut down and restarted. No change.

message 127: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Did you clear cache and cookies?

message 128: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments Wouldn't that clear it for all my sites (clear website history and data)?

message 129: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Jonetta wrote: "Wouldn't that clear it for all my sites (clear website history and data)?"

You can choose to do it for a specific site. Which browser are you using?

message 130: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments Safari. I cleared it for Goodreads and it didn't make a difference.

I've been avoiding that group since a few years back when the suggestion of nested discussion threads was made. The nastiness put me off goodreads for a long time.

Yes.... they aren't exactly the friendliest bunch, but the fact that the moderators are Goodreads staff is very helpful. I just ignore the rudeness and get on with the questions and information on updates and bugs that interest me.

what happened?

message 137: by Jane (new)

Jane (sweetbabyjane) I'm glad I found this group of former Shelfarians. Nothing got transferred over from there and had to add almost all of my books which totaled over 3,000? There go my reviews and ratings also. I ended up just adding them and not rating them.

I will not miss Shelfari as it had gotten so slow and couldn't create books that weren't on there.

I love the Giveaways on here. It didn't take me long to get adjusted but now there's a new format coming. I was just getting used to this one.

message 138: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (trakka) | 38 comments So I finally have the new navigation bar! I don't think I'll ever use the browse button and I don't like that "groups" has been rolled up into community but I do like that new notifications are more obvious. I did feed back on the group roll up thing.

message 139: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 10 comments Laurie wrote: "what happened? ..."

They are putting up a new navigation bar. You may or may not have it since they are doing a limited number at a time.

message 140: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 10 comments I have finally gone through all the books I marked as read in Shelfari (since those that switch to GR were mixed as read and want to read). I had made a list from the list view at Shelfari and copied and pasted to Word. I had over 22 pages of book titles and tags - no reviews or dates. I had one tab up with Shelfari and one up with GR. These are only those I know I read! I still have to deal with some duplications, etc on GR. However, I think (hope!) I'm finished with have the two sites open since Shelfari will be kaput after tomorrow. :-( tears falling.

I've discovered a few things.

1. If you're using the desktop version on your tablet, the navigation bar isn't fixed.
2. If you lightly tap your avatar (if using a tablet and the desktop version), the old drop down menu appears. However, this isn't consistent as often it takes me to my profile but if I page back, the drop down menu appears. Crazy. (I like the group option from this menu because it sorts them based on my usage, not overall group activity.)
3. My navigation bar is fixed on my desktop computer.

Jane (sweetbabyjane) Just got the new navigation bar and there's not much difference. Not as different as I thought it would be. What I like is that I don't have to hit explore to find giveaways now.

That makes me happy, in case I run into more I need to fix.

message 146: by Jane (new)

Jane (sweetbabyjane) I was wondering why it was still up today when the deadline was 3/16.

message 147: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I guess they realized they needed to give people more time.

message 148: by Laurie (new)

Laurie (laugal) Shelfari has extend site closing until May 31.

message 149: by Jerry-Book (new)

Jerry-Book | 25 comments Was it all a ploy? They just wanted to move Shelfarians to GR. Thus, the Pink Banner of Death. We are being herded like sheep. Since there are a few strays left on Shelfari, the deadline has been extended.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 160 comments do you think there will be another extension in May?
