Twelve Minutes to Midnight
question
How has the use of figures of speech benefited the plot of the novel?

This novel has absurd use of the literary language. This seems important in children books as it creates a scene so engaging and vivid, the children can't help but turn the pages. Alliterations were used by the dozen in each chapter as they created mood and rhyme and helped the passage move smoother. There were scattered showers of metaphors, similes and personification as well, helping the reader to compare the scene at hand to an already familiar one.
