Wilcox's murders of Rachel York and Mary Ward were covered up, saving the Prince, Amanda and her children (and others) from scandal. How close to reality do you think this reaches? Right or wrong thing to do?

lorii (Loriidae) Admittedly I don't know historically what happened in these cases, but in all the Regency fiction I have read over the years, Nothing was allow to smear the family name, cover it up at all costs. Often the "bad apple" was exiled and cut off from the family coffers rather than brought before the magistrate.

I think it is probably close to the truth. At the time of this novel, bow street runners and police forces were relatively new and the upper class were considered pretty much untouchable.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Unfortunately, it is very close to the truth.
One only has to look at more recent crimes involving the aristocracy to see the coverups - the Cambridge spies come immediately to mind.

I agree with you both. Protecting the aristocracy was paramount to most everything else.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Thought provoking, isn't it?

That it is, Charlene.

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments Yes scary how much certain people got away with!

Mary Beth | 193 comments I think it is the wrong thing to do, to cover things up. Its not justice and I think its very unethical and its very criminal.
