Nicole, Just do a break down of three sections of chapters leaving one or two for the reveal. Discuss away. Yey! :-)

At first I didn't think I'd like this one but after getting through the immediate character intros, I got hooked. The globe, the um, incident etc. made it a nicely paced mystery so far. How about you?

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I finally see where to start a discussion haha. Welcome to our January book discussion! Snow Way Out is the first book in the Snow Globe Shop Mystery series by Christine Husom. We can start by discussing chapters 1-5?
I think it will be interesting to read about making snow globes! I didn't know it was an actual hobby. I am on chapter 2 and I think I need to go back and re-read because I'm starting to mix up the characters. How's everyone else doing?

Yeah, text is so tiny, it's easy to miss. And that's fine, Nicole. Even I can manage that. lol

Spoiler alert --

Not such a good idea to bring up that touchy (ex) issue at a class she's teaching. Not good for teacher's rep nor the business which welcomed her. But I guess if she didn't, there'd be less of a mystery, conflict.

That's pretty clever, tying in globe scene with incident. That would be too spooky. Walking out to see the snow falling when supposedly she's alone.

Allison | 905 comments I too wondered about the teacher bringing up the Ex at a class she's teaching. Talk about unprofessional. I did enjoy the explanation on making snow globes and it sounds like fun actually. It was pretty creepy though to have a globe there with the same scene she runs across a few hours later.

There was a lot of characters (suspects) introduced in that 1st chapter, it seemed like anyone and everyone was wandering through their store/cafe.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I'm wondering how the creepy snow globe got into the shop. It was probably there before she locked the door but just didn't notice.

Allison, I felt same about character intros...a bit overwhelmed. But as story leveled off, it seemed to go better. But I am trying to get male characters straightened in my mind. Not yet sure who Cami has a soft spot for. There usually is one. ;-)

Jill Tool | 992 comments Guess who's getting SNOWED IN?! That's right this girl! I've got two of the other books from the library (Can I get a YEH!) and I bought Snow Way Out, so I'll start it here in a little bit today. I go under a wind chill advisory at 11 pm tonight until 1 pm tomm. afternoon, The low is suppose to be 3 degrees and the high is 11 degrees and that's without the wind chill factored in, So today and tomm will be great days to hide under the blankets and read.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Where do you all live? I am in NY. We have had maybe 2 inches of snow so far this season. We're supposed to have a storm next weekend but I'm hoping for not too much snow. I'm not a fan!!

Stay warm and toasty, PI's. Hot chocolate and whipped cream, those few good books, win win! Not much more one needs.

Anyone from upstate NY?

message 12: by Jill (new)

Jill Tool | 992 comments I was thinking J was, but not sure

Jill, I hail from up there but on a lark, I head south with friends many years ago. Met SO down here and it's where I stayed. Still, there's something about our back home culture that I miss. Ideally it would be to stay up there spring, summer, fall. Head south for part of the winter. But alas, I did not win Lotto this weekend so--

message 14: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I live in the hudson valley in NY. People from NYC say we're "upstate" but we sure don't think so! At least we're not getting slammed with snow like last year. I was thinking a move to Hawaii was in order if I won the lottery last week LOL

Tina (tinacz) | 6103 comments Mod
Nicole, I also equate upstate as snow country. Buffalo, NY sure was.

message 16: by Jill (new)

Jill Tool | 992 comments Wasn't there a song or something about off to Buffalo? seems to me there was or maybe a saying....

message 17: by J (last edited Jan 20, 2016 09:55AM) (new)

J I live just east of NYC on Long Island but spent most of my life within the city limits. Yes Nicole - guilty as charged... most of us do,think anything north of the Bronx is "upstate"!
Jill- we are also heading for snow. A real Nor'easter supposedly!
UGHHH!

PS- that song you were talking about is Shuffling off to Buffalo. It was used a lot when a musical performer would do a shuffle off the stage. They even used It on an Odd Couple episode.

Jill, Shuffle off to Buffalo...in your jeep decked with snow tires, chains, ice scraper. But the snow is wonderful for sports and stuff. It's all good. ;-)

J and Nicole, you PI's are being spared the brunt, right? I pass the TV now and then to see that most of the activity is below you. We are getting strong winds off this storm even all the way down to south FL. Stay warm, safe and dry, PI's!!

message 20: by Allison (new)

Allison | 905 comments Nothing much going on here, weather wise. I am staying home today in empathy for those who must stay in. Reading, playing on the computer, getting ready to make some cocoa.

Cocoa! I used mine up, Allison and am not about to buy more of the good stuff this late in season (for FL). We'll be in shorts next week; so much for hot chocolate weather. I hope not but--

message 22: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments No snow here. Parts of my county got some but we were spared. NYC got slammed. VERY cold though so I'm staying indoors. Doing some chores around the house, making dinner, then reading for the rest of the evening!

Sounds nice, Nicole. I love my books on a chilly or rainy night.

The only way I know to post photos is to look to right of your Parlor page more near the top where it has about 12 different sub topics/headings. Click photos and then there should be a sub heading Add photos. Click that and it should instruct further. It's been a while for me but I trust things are the same.

Shame on guy who stole kid's bike. I thought it a bad idea for him to leave his bag of tools behind. Too bad they couldn't get a print off them.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Thanks. I added a picture...I hope thats ok! I can probably delete it if it's not. I thought it was cute!

Jill Tool | 992 comments Yes Tina, that was it! Shuffle off to Buffalo....lol I knew there was something about Buffalo and that was it! I have a friend that moved back home to Syracuse and she's always telling me how much snow they get and the fun things they do.

Jill Tool | 992 comments I love reading on snowy or raining days/evenings, wrapped up in my blankie....hubby does the same thing also. There's times we don't turn the tv on and just sit and read, the dogs are laying with us, around us, it's nice and relaxing.

message 30: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments My husband is on a Netflix kick so I half watched tv/half read for about 3 hours! He is the king of binge watching but I get bored sometimes so I always keep a book handy!

message 31: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinacz) | 6103 comments Mod
Yes, that's it, Jill.

That's what it's (the book thing) all about. Sorry for those who don't partake, Jill.

Binge watching is also good, Nicole. Esp. if they're movie adapted mysteries. lol Caught vintage Columbo the other night. Ahh, revisiting some great TV.

message 33: by J (new)

J Finally back to full scale operation here! 20 inches of snow, high winds, intermittent phone/cable/internet-more out than in. 4 ft snow drift steps beyond front door. Rough few days yet we are better off than some.
Glad you were spared Nicole - not so lucky down here!
