I've moved on to book 3 now, with book 4 waiting in the wings. I'm a huge Atkinson fan and just discovered she has a book of short stories I hadn't heard of before.

No, it's not as good as Ove. For me, so far, the order is:

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry 5 stars
A Man Called Ove strong 4 stars
Britt-Marie Was Here 3.5 rounded up
And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer 3 stars

His latest translated book is on my tbr

Karin I'm flitting back and forth between 1930s Berlin with The Berlin Stories: The Last of Mr Norris/Goodbye to Berlin and the Puritan Baroque area somewhere in Europe (haven't read far enough to know exactly where I am yet) in Quicksilver

message 906: by Michael (new)

Michael (mike999) | 113 comments Quicksilver is so ambitious. Am hungry for his new one, which blends sci fi, fantasy, and historical fiction, I understand.

For me I am in Russia about 1840 with a chameleon huckster, Gogol's Dead Souls. I am also with a private military outfit that contracts for jobs in dangerous parts of the world, such as hostage extraction. This near future tale does a great job projecting coming developments in AI directed drones and robots in combat and a plausible scenario involving competitor companies going after each other in the U.S. Linda Nagata's The Last Good Man.

I am going to be the first person to borrow his latest one from the library. I am waiting until later next week to pick it up since I doubt I'll be able to renew [book:The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.|32075825] The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. by Neal Stephenson . It means I won't be reading the second Baroque Cycle book that soon, but that's okay.
Something fishy is going on; the link won't show up as a link unless I have that one that doesn't show up correctly. I can even get the title link to work if it's second. I wonder if that anomaly will show up anywhere else other than my browser. It's only happening with this one book so far, and only today.

I like her writing, but prefer the two Woefield books; I think I like her adult fiction better than her y/a. Either way, she's funny!

Story (storyheart) I only read the first one in the Alice series but it made me laugh. But like you, I prefer the Woefield ones.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the movie is a delight - Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith, Daniel Day-Lewis.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 104 comments I am in Connecticut reading Most Wanted. The book is good, but not as much as I thought it would be. I'm a little more than half way through it.

Donor 3319 Profile: Tall. Blond. Blue Eyes. Medical Student. Wanted for murder. He is an anonymous donor. A couple that wants a baby has decided to use a donor. They looked at pictures and chose a donor. Then they see a man being taken to jail as a serial killer and he looks just like their donor. What would you do if the biological father of your unborn child was a killer?
For me, it sounded very good, but I cannot stand some of the characters, so it makes for slow reading.

Karin Right now I'm skipping between England (I'm in an active British reads group that moved over from Shelfari, so am usually reading something set in England), the 18th century Atlantic but that will switch to the Pacific) in The Floating Brothel: The Extraordinary True Story of an Eighteenth-Century Ship and Its Cargo of Female Convicts and Trinidad in The White Woman on the Green Bicycle. Plus, I dabble in France in The Count of Monte Cristo. That last book, for me, is the best of them all.

There was something unique about how she brought that world to life. I felt as though I were really there. I loved it and am getting the audiobook so I can also experience it through listening.
I also bought her first book After Me Comes The Flood but sadly could not get into it at all.
