Check out All You Need Is Kill, a kickass action-packed sci-fi dystopian novel. It actually satisfies quite a few of the criteria of your challenge, including the translated one.
Shoa-the-Khan named him so, after looking at his cute new DP (current one), a month or so ago.:-P

Prison break - Papillon
Book about surviving - The Girl in the Picture: The Story of Kim Phuc, the Photograph, and the Vietnam War
Translated into English - Any of Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Set in Europe - Any WWII or WWI book will help,
Based on a real story - The Glass Castle, The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption
A satirical book - Xingu - it's a short story, not sure if that is okay or not
Culture that you are unfamiliar with - Not sure if this will work but it does have Greek Culture in it and it also talks about a very important subject - Middlesex

And for the time travel, you can also try The Eyre Affair. It's a great book. It also works for set in Europe.

added it, thanks :)

I read Calamity for the challenge. It is the last book in series of three books. i started reading it as soon as it came out. A good ending to a wonderful series. Brandon didn't leave anything hanging and presented a great conclusion.
Brandon is master of fantasy. his creativity always amaze me. it's not just that he could think of new worlds and new magic system.
The way he justify them, creating every aspect of the world according to the story, it's just brilliant. And the way he creates dramatic situation. always fun reading his works.

starting Battle Royale for the challenge. A violent and grim story. let's see how it goes

it was overall a nice book. story was nice, bloody and creepy at times and predictable sometimes yet still entertaining.
high school kids have to kill each other to survive. their friends, their classmates. And in an instant everyone they knew was after their life. slowly, fear took control of them.

Going to read Tigana for the challenge"
Ahem!"
what? i thought you will be happy :D

Read Azincourt for the challenge. Book deals with English victory of Agincourt against French when Henry V set out to claim the, rightfully his, French throne. English archers were famous for their skills and French hated them. To the point they tortured them before killing them. The book depicts the cruelty of war and things done in the name of god. It’s surprising how much power church had in that time period. Their word was law.
Overall, the book is good and worth the read

I finished Post Office in a day for the challenge. It was full of sarcasm and humor. I really enjoyed the book. It was about mundane post office job and a lazy guy who hated working but always ended up working the ridiculous post office job. Through situations, his adventures, and his sarcastic look of the world made the read enjoyable.

2001: A Space Odyssey,
Simple and interesting. Dealing with idea that aliens influenced human evolution and still keeps eye on us in hope one day we will find them.
