You can create additional exclusive shelves besides read, currently reading, and plan to read. I just created a "books to watch" shelf which I hope will be a shorter term place to park books that either get deleted or added to the TBR. Make a shelf entitled something like "owned but not read", go to your My Books page, click on the little edit next to bookshelves at the top of your shelves list on the left side of the screen, find the shelf you just created and click on the exclusive box. Finally, scroll to the bottom and click "I'm done".

That's a great idea.

Denizen (den13) | 566 comments I make notes about specific recommendations in the private notes section for each book. You have to click on the book title to see your notes but the back arrow takes you back to where you were so no problem with that. I find I need it less with the reviews of all my friends who've read it further down the page and then friend ratings after the friend reviews before the rest of GR pack.

Denizen (den13) | 566 comments Is anyone else getting videos, lg photos, etc. attached to reviews in their feeds? I have one GR friend who keeps liking these reviews so they show up in my feed and take up over a "page" sometimes. They drive me nuts. I unclicked the top friend box but it didn't make a difference - still prominent in my feed.

I used to have the same problem in Leafmarks but they fixed the problem by making those items clickable to expand. Am I missing some sort of fix in GR?

Yes, to both points, thanks Den.

mef (mefoley) | 11 comments Okay, so...say I post this and forget where I posted a message (I'll know where this one is, but this just happened to me in a southern lit group here). I click on my avatar at the top right, and one of the menu items is "My Comments". I find my comment, with a clickable Name-of-group. I click on it--and am taken to post 1 of a thread with hundreds of posts. 44 pages of comments, in this case.

Is there a way to get GoodReads to present threads to me starting where I left off reading (like Shelfari did, ahem)?

Thanks, Mef. I didn't realize one could do that. While doing that I discovered that if you scroll down to your groups and click on recent posts, you are sent a list of all the comments you make, so I suppose you can find your way if you made a comment where you were reading.

Denizen (den13) | 566 comments I didn't know it either. I guess it's time to start exploring again and see what I'm missing.

A Bald Eagle just flew past my window as I was writing the last sentence. Ahhh, life is good.

That is very cool! It would be such a thrill for me.

Oh this is so much quicker than searching each group for my name..Thanks.. Den, I must be a duh, but I can't find the 'notes' section you mentioned.

Denizen (den13) | 566 comments Lesley, bring up a book page and scroll down just a little to the "My Review" section. Click on "edit" across from "my review" Go to the bottom of that page and the last box above the save button is for private notes. The private notes will then appear in your my review section.

Where I use it most is if I'm browsing my TBR (plan to read) books. On the far right for the info GR lists for each book you find two words, edit and view. If you click on edit, you can edit info and add notes. If you click on view, it shows your private notes by your avatar. If you use the back arrow after looking at your info, it takes you back to the original place in your list so if you're on page 5, you go back to the same place on page 5. I used to use tags for notes and could see them if I hovered the cursor over the book cover. This is not quite as easy but close.

Once I clicked on : More details… it opened to show me the private notes.. Thanks it will certainly be a help as there are sometimes months between my Rural Library Buy request and receiving the book.
