After re-reading these books for what must be the hundredth time I am struck but many thoughts and wondered if you too felt the same or had any more to add?
- If the Marauders (a group of underage wizards) could conjure up a map capable of showing the location for everyone in Hogwarts, surely the Ministry of Magic could create one for the UK which would at least help with the search for Voldemort.
- Why did Barty Crouch Jnr. teach Harry and the other students legitimate ways of fighting the dark arts if it goes against his intentions as a Death Eater?
- Why didn't they just turn a pencil into a portkey to take Harry to Voldemort? (book 4).

the marauders would have mapped hogwarts with the add of magic but they probably would have also had to physically been in each of the places on the map or at least be able to remember them. And because the UK is so large it would not be possible in a short time frame. Also voldamort would have killed any who found him and probably would have had concealment magic.
he may have taught them to fight because it was against his father's agenda for young students to know about the unforgivable curses at that age. Also because dumbledore would have gotten suspicious if the students did not learn.
