Wow, Sam's Dad was something else. Who could "arrange an accident" involving his son? How messed up is that?!
And how difficult must it have been for Sam to tell Jon? The fact that he did make it to the Wall (I'm sure some sort of bribery could have been found to allow him to "disappear" to an easier life) makes me think he isn't as much of a coward as everyone thinks.
*Spoiler* Jon is dreaming about an empty Winterfell, which actually happens in the following books. So I'm assuming that the character's dreams are not always meaningless (like most of ours). Jon also dreams about his mother in this same chapter - "In his dreams, she was beautiful, and highborn, and her eyes were kind.” - something to keep in mind.
thoughts while reading:I kind of like Pyp! He seems like a good kid compared to some of the others at the Wall.
I think Alliser could be jealous of Jon-he's a really good fighter and doesn't let him be as much of a bully.
"The world was full of cravens who pretended to be heroes;"
I have to go to work so didn't finish reading this chapter yet. I'll update when I do if there are further thoughts.
