ABANDONED. Adventure to find someone, and he ends up on a slave ship in this search

From what I remember, yes. It wasn't paranormal that I can remember either?
If you've read the Green Rider, the time period reminds me of that with the clothing.
The Ship was wooden, and I believe shallow with oars sticking out below the deck where the slaves were to row in the dark. There was, I believe, a walkway in the middle and the slaves all had to sleep sitting up.

I read it when I was 8/9 so, it would have been 1998-1999 when I did. I would say it was an adult book from what I remember reading. I remember kind of how it looked- paperback, chapter book, the book was thick but not much more than two inches and smaller in size- not much bigger than 4 by 7. The pages were yellowed and the type was small. I can't be positive of this next information, but I believe the cover was shades of green with stone walls and plants hanging down over it. I believe there were a couple pillars and it was in the background with misty waters leading to it.
I would consider it a fantasy novel, but with so little information that I remember, it could have spread into sci-fi. The character names I don't remember, but the main male character was, I believe, on a mission to find someone and from my feel of it that I can remember, I know they didn't wear jeans, but leathers and jerkins and swords. I don't remember if there were guns- I don't believe so, but if there were they would have been the single shot kind.
Thank you for reading my post.
