Patty Since her birthday is tomorrow, I would like to mention Alice Paul. She was the author of the ERA and women in the US would not have gotten the vote without her hard work. For more information, I suggest you look here: http://www.history.com/topics/womens-...

MeerderWörter | 2388 comments A few are better than no one.

To my teacher in Psychology and Philosophy:

You didn't limit someone because of their gender. You tried to treat everybody as equal and just as possible. You helped me to understand life better in general. We don't have the same opinion on everything, but our conversations were always respectful and we have seen each other not as superior or minerior, but as equal.

To my former physics teacher and head teacher:

Who also tried to treat each and everyone of us equally. We weren't his students, we were his children for him. He really wanted us to feel well and that we have all the positive feelings and not the negative one's.
With whom I have more in common than you might think and I hope his dreams will become true. In fact, I'd cry if I heard his dreams would come true.

Ms. Malala Yousafzai,

the warrior, who stood up against the taliban and is like the best real-life Gryffindor we've known so far. I admire your strength and courage and willingness to learn no matter what.

And lastly, to the empress of gender parity:

Ms. Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson,

in your speech you opened my eyes, literally, to the obstacles and prejudices men and women are facing just because of their gender. I was beaming in September 2014 when I listened to your speech and have listened to it many times since. Some parts of your speech I know by heart.

fictional:
Ms. Hermione Jean Granger
among

Minerva Mc Gonagall
Molly Weasley
Ginny Weasley
and Luna Lovegood

That book literally changed my life and made me push so much harder for pro-choice activism. What an amazing, strong, interesting woman. I can't imagine having my life at risk for my job!

Hi Melle!
Have you ever been to this website? It talks about Susan Wicklund's work to provide financial support for women who need abortion care :-)

I haven't but I'm checking it out now! Thanks!

message 69: by Nea (new)

Nea Poulain (neapoulain) I've already identified as feminist when Emma Watson started working with UN women but I admit that Hermione Granger was a great role model in my childhood (I used to think we are very alike: messy hair, intelligence, good grades).

But one of the most influential woman for me is Elena Poniatowska. I'm not really sure if she identify as a feminist, but she surely thinks like one. When I was approaching to the movement I've read lot about her.

Also Marjane Satrapi, author of Persepolis, she gave and all new perspective about the muslim world. And, although I don't share most of her opinions, Ayaan Hirsi Ali was a big influence when I started to write about feminism.

I am glad that I could warm your heart. Well, when I finished my Matura (A-Levels) I wrote a letter to them to thank them. My teachers were really amazing.

I like that a lot. Sometimes there are few or no words to describe experiences you have with wonderful people, but at least you can always thank them :-) It's wonderful to know that there are teachers out there who are revealing to their students/children (as in the case of your physics and head teacher,) a world as it should be, a world where no one is discriminated because of race, gender, or culture.

message 74: by Fiza (last edited Jan 29, 2016 07:47PM) (new)

Fiza (fizaaarshad) | 99 comments Lydia Davis, Virginia Woolf, Muniba Mazari, Emma Watson, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Margaret Atwood and Nyla Matuk.

Yes!! She is the ultimate model for all female writers. And that book is very empowering.

Katelyn (Lost as Alice, Mad as the Hatter) (essequamvideri) Jayce wrote: "Katelyn (Just Another Bad Hair Day) wrote: "http://www.ted.com/talks/kimberley_mo......"

She is truly inspirational! She is taking on the belief that women are property and do not have the right to be safe in a part of the world where women are treated worse than their sons.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

Joss Whedon and Buffy the Vampire Slayer

message 78: by Aikya (new)

Aikya - Steig Larsson (and his character of Mikael Blomkvist) - very very inspirational. His writings and books have been very instrumental in shaping my thoughts and ideas and beliefs.

- Shahrukh Khan - a very well known Feminist and Priyanka Chopra (Bollywood actors)

-M.C Mary Kom - a national icon (5 times boxing champion and Olympic Bronze Medal Winner)

-Emma Watson

-Malala Yousufzai

- Both of my older sisters.

Especially outspoken feminists of male gender have inspired me to voice my opinions without the fear of being ridiculed, taken very casually or lightly or heavily opposed in my group. (Yes, many guys at the age of 15 - 25 are anti-feminists and in a group, can be quite intimidating).

That makes complete sense, and I had no idea that girls were getting married at such a young age, whether they liked it or not. :-(

message 81: by Karolina (new)

Karolina Monika | 3 comments No one, I never had thoughts that men and women are not equal, I believed they were, and I was just surprised when I was old enough to see it.

But lately I was amazed about a historical feminist from my region about whom I didn't even know much, and now I'm proud and maybe a little bit inspired - Zuzanna Ginczanka.

That was a truly uplifting article. Thank you so much, Karolina! It's so sad to know that Zuzanna Ginczanka had beauty which became a so called "curse," as the article states. I wonder if Miss Emma Watson or anyone else will ever suggest that we read a series of poems for this book club....

message 83: by Paige (new)
