Gretchen | 91 comments I was in bad need of a Jane Austen fix. I finally found a book that I had not read yet, I am getting to the point where I have read many of the books on my list, Jane of Austin A novel of Sweet tea and Sensibility by Hillary Manton Lodge was the book I found and I loved it!

It is a wonderful retelling of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. The basic premise is the father is involved in a business scandal and he has to leave the country and the three sisters are having to take care of each other. They own a tea shop The older girls own and operate the shop, the younger one is in school. Once the scandal happens no one wants to do business with them any more and they loose the shop. They decide that the best thing would be to move some where, where no one knows them and that is how they end up moving from San Francisco to Austin. Talk about a culture shock! They find a new shop and the older sisters find romance just like in Sense and Sensibility.

Ms. Lodge does a wonderful job of connecting the story and the characters to Jane Austen's version.
It is a delight and perfect for a Jane Austen fix! Those who love a romance with a happily ever after ending will love it! Those who want a book to read to decompress it is good for that too!

Thank you very much! Yeah it was quite the deal but they say if you take the time to get well you develop an immunity to it. So here's hoping. ( fingers crossed)

Gretchen | 91 comments I finally got to read a Deirdre Le Faye book and I enjoyed it. The British Library writers' lives Jane Austen. I found it to be very similar to Jane Austen's World: The life and times of England's most popular author by Maggie Lane which I also liked.

I decided to try Ms Le Faye and was pleasantly surprised by the personal information from letters and journal diaries from friends and relatives. Your perspective changes and you become much more connected to the author because you get a glimpse of the real person behind the novels. And I loved that!

She faces similar relationship problems and situations with family and friends like we face today which makes the connection even stronger. The author in a way becomes a friend and you feel as if she is talking to you over a cup of tea. Love it!

Gretchen | 91 comments I am getting to read authors that I have wanted to read but just never got to, this time I read Evelina by Frances Burney. This was a fun read! You could really see the inspiration for Jane Austen. There was bits of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility in it .
Evelina is a girl that has been raised in the country by a guardian Mr. Villairs. Her mother died in child birth and her father had disowned her mother and therefore her.

When she was old enough a family with a girl her age Maria, her good friend, decide to take the girls to London. Evelina happens to meet the family of her mother and they are so different from the quiet country people she grew up with, they are loud and uncouth and Evelina struggles to understand them. She is also having to struggle with the men and women of London as she tries to find her way in the world.

Ms. Burney has a lively way of telling a story. And the characters are so well developed you feel for Evelina, you know how she feels and have been in similar situations yourself. The suspense is carried out to the very last chapter but thankfully it is a happy ending for all.

Jane Austen fans will love this book! Romance readers will love this book! Chick lit readers will love this book! Anyone just wants to read a good story will love this book!

Gretchen | 91 comments I just finished the second book by Darcie Wilde A Purely Private Matter I really liked it! There is all the elements of a great mystery, intrigue and the good guys win in the end!

I love how Ms. Wilde writes and I love how Rosalind the main character is a woman making it on her own in a man's world without having to compromise herself.

I loved her first book and now her second book in this series.
