The success of the book so far, I suppose, had made us readers real life Roland, Maud, Blackadder, Cropper and Leonora!
After the midpoint the book has turned and how!

I don't like Fergus Wolff!! Am I being childish in stating only this and not talking about the evocative nature of the prose and the lyrical nature of its poems and the depth to which the author includes philosophy, religion, dogmas, eroticism, culture and just about everything relevant to the period of Ash and LaMotte in this book?I am honestly spellbound and somehow want to linger on the words more than anything else and yet thanks to that stupid Fergus, I want to rush to see what happens next. And that is bugging me. Ah whatever!
Completed - burnt the midnight oil on the last day of a long weekend to finish it! And was worth it!
Two 5-stars already.
Vimal, where are you?

Found out the secret hidden by Dollies
Man, I am enjoying this book.
And am scared to boast that I am enjoying it. I feel that perversely , this book will start losing magic.
So touch wood... fingers crossed.

Had lost my reading mood for a couple of days. Getting back to speed. At about 75% now, will complete it this weekend. Quite sure that it will be a 5* for me too :)
Girish wrote: "checked the update! Comprehensive clean sweep of 5 stars so far!"Yes, an all 5 for only for the second time I think :D
The first was Cloud Atlas
Play to the chain and make it a fiver Syl!Syl's gone off to hibernate. Though the contexts and personalities are different, the act reminds me of Christabel's egg riddle :)
lol.. nice comparison.
can't help observing that without all the 'theatericals' in Byatt's writing the book has a simple one line story!

@Vimal Are we sticking to the original plan of reading Notes on a scandal next?
or September Fingersmith
or September Fingersmith
This time I plan to join from the start. I am okay with anything. Was wondering if you guys plan to read "the vegetarian" or "the sympathizer" soon? Or have you read them already?
I am reading Possession only after 26th.. want to savor my paperback.
Vegetarian read, and didn't like the latter half much. it is so bizarre.

@Girish, I'm good for September Fingersmith. Seems like it'll be hard to get my hands on Notes on a scandal, too many holds.
Indrani wrote: "This time I plan to join from the start. I am okay with anything. Was wondering if you guys plan to read "the vegetarian" or "the sympathizer" soon? Or have you read them already?"Vegetarian is in my list too. Will get to it after fingersmith maybe.
Yayyy! Fingersmith it is then. Let us start it on Sep 1st.
I think we should invite others who had voted for it in GR too :P
Aside, going by the quality of books we are reading on this thread, not a bad idea at all..

I got my copy of possession today. Started reading. Am combining it with Queen of Bedlam. But I am sure that I will be able to finish it by Sept.1

You are definitely possessed, if you are being a book these days with friends! :P
he he... I would then have friends with varying ideas - happy friends, sad friends, philosophers, teens, etc

thanks smitha for inviting :)I have the copy of Fingersmith and can start tomorrow. when is everyone else starting?
Reay liking Possession. Especially the intertextual references to real 19th century poets and authors delight the lit student in me. :D

I thought so... I was reminded of you and Akanksha all the while reading it. It was a tough read for me, but quite satisfying.

around 10% too. only after picking up the book did I realize it is nominated as Historical Crime fiction!
I read a review that started with the lesser you know about the book, the better it is. and have decided to follow it :)
Have the others started?
