General Book Love

How about a....Movie?
I would like it, especially if I knew the actors/actresses. However if it isn't like the books it would be a disappointment.
Definitely agree with you there, I'd love to see it become a movie but it would have to follow the book completely. I think I'd almost prefer actors and actresses that I don't know because I can't picture any known who would fit Alina, Mal or anyone else .. But then I again I kinda would love Tom Hiddleson to play The Darkling .(:
Rachel wrote: "I would like it, especially if I knew the actors/actresses. However if it isn't like the books it would be a disappointment."I agree with this 100%.
I honestly would love to actually see Ravka in reality. A persons imagination only goes so far. I would also love seeing how the Geisha's powers would look like.
Anyways, I agree 100% with you Courtney. I like seeing new actors who I've never seen. Sure the actors now are fine, but I think new faces make a movie all together better.
I'm too afraid that they'd ruin the books and make the movie different. I love this series and I'm not sure I can hand something, so wonderful over, if there was a chance that they could ruin it.
Yeah I'd be too worried about it being ruined, I've see so many of my books go that way and it makes me sad. Wouldn't want that to happen with that series
I think it would be really hard to ruin the book series. If they butcher the Grisha aspect, which should be hard due the indepth description that Leigh shared with us, then the movie would be horrible.
What parts would you guys include and exclude from the movie?
Jessica wrote: "Yes!! I was hoping someone would being this up. Y'all... Ben Barnes would he THE BEST Darkling."I love Ben Barnes!!! I'm glad I brought it up!
He would be a good one !&although I love his super dark eyes, (if we are going technical) he'd have to have contacts or something cause The Darkling has blue eyes, but very nice pick .(:
A lot of authors, when it comes to their adaptations, tend to prefer new, undiscovered actors.I was reading an article on the upcoming Hush, Hush movie. Becca Fitzpatrick stated that she wanted a fresh new face. Even in Vampire Academy, Divergent and City of Bones. All the actors were fresh new faces.
Lol I agree with Courtney, I imagined Tom Hiddleston as The Darkling XD I thought he had grayish eyes though 0-0
So The Darkling doesn't have gray eyes? .-. Sorry, my mistake lol XD But yes! Tom does have nice blue eyes ^.^
Tom is usually portrayed as a villian in his roles.I think he would be marvelous too! So many actors to choose from :(
I know right? It would be amazing to see who they would cast! I don't even know who I want to play each character so I'm just looking at everyone's fan cast XD
Alicia wrote: "I know right? It would be amazing to see who they would cast! I don't even know who I want to play each character so I'm just looking at everyone's fan cast XD"That's so true. I feel like I have a fan cast already made up, but when I go to look at other people's casts, their casts are TOTALLY better than mine!
Its also a great way to see how other people see the characters.
Who do y'all want as Alina? :D I see people fan casting Astrid Berges-Frisbey and I haven't seen any of the films she has been in. I know she's fan casted for Tessa in TID bc I'm in that fandom as well XD
Astrid would be a wonderful Tessa.I kind of like Rooney Mara as Alina.
I've also always pictured Sam Claflin as Mal.
Sam Claflin fangirls unite!!!Wouldn't he be a great pick for Mal? Whenever I read a part with Mal and imagine Sam Claflin sweet talking me.
Im looking at fan casts at the moment, and wohoo a lot of them think Sam would he a great Mal, too.Lots of people chose Tom Hiddleston as the Darkling too!
Do you think Hollywood will cast them older than the chapters age in the story? (Like how they did with City of Bones)
Eep! Who do y'all cast as Zoya? I seriously don't know who I'd cast for her XD Also for Genya and Nikolai >.<
Can theo james be SOMEBODY? I don't care if they put his face on a tshirt and make baghra wear it. I just feel like his presence will enhance the movie-going experience. :)
Oh, I don't know. I hope the age differnces arent too marginal.Like picking someone who's thirty for a 16 year old role, no thank you.
Maximum, a couple years older (I hope)
Holland Roden looks so sweet, just like I would picture Genya.Wonderful choice, Courtney! Who would you cast as Alina?
Thank you !(: &hi have no idea, Alina's always troubled me because I picture her looking so different in the beginning then compared to the end of the book, and I don't know who could fit that /:
That is true. I feel like Rooney Mara kind of has that troubled look about her, and Alina throughout practiy all of the books is troubled and lost. But hey, that's my opinion!
I vote no on a movie because I believe that making a movie from a book kind of takes some of the magic away, because part of the fun is imaging the characters and the world in your head, but then once they adapt it to a movie sometimes all I can remember is the actor/actress that played the part or a setting that doesn't really resemble what i first thought that setting would look like. Also when they leave parts/characters out, and change parts it can really take away from the story, and I really hate it when they do that. Also I have had a lot of my favorite series recently ruined when they were adapted for movies. My view on the movies is that some them are really good movies, they just don't really accurately portray the book for me so even though its hard to like most of these movie adaptations I have to look at it as if it is just an independent film, or they are just bad films period.
So yeah, I guess I would prefer they didn't make a movie, and just let the magic stay alive through its write form.
1. The movie NEVER ruins the book. Always have to remember they are two separate things. The book stays the same no matter how a movie adapts it. :P2. We are getting a movie..same producers as Harry Potter so that's a good sign. :)
Casting wise, here are my choices.
The Darkling
- Sean O'Pry. Okay, his face is flawless. (We know this.) He has the exact look that I'd imagine the Darkling to have. He'd just have to be able to pull off the acting. Sean has read Shadow and Bone though and acknowledges the Grisha fandom, so major points there.
- Daniel Sharman. He's from Teen Wolf and he's amazing. Gorgeous too. (My cast is pretty much from Teen Wolf, haha.) He actually did the audiobook for one of the Infernal Devices books and has expressed he'd like to play a villain. :)
- Sebastian Stan. Go see Captain America: Winter Soldier. I don't need to say anything else.
Alina
- Emilia Clarke. I don't think this needs an explanation if you watch Game of Thrones.
- Crystal Reed. Another Teen Wolf actress. She's in a lot of graphics as Alina if you search around. Excellent actress who looks young for her age.
Genya
- HOLLAND RODEN EVERYONE ELSE GO HOME. (Also, Teen Wolf.)
Mal
- Sam Claflin. I've always pictured this casting.
- Dylan O'Brien. Another Teen Wolf..sorry lol. He's the lead in the Maze Runner though so I doubt we'd get him now.
Ivan
- Jai Courtney. In my defense I wanted him as Ivan before he was cast in Divergent. :P
Oh my god Emilia Clarke as Alina, how did she not come to mind for me !? That's the closest I've come to a good match for Alina, Emilia is one of my women crushes she's amazing, awesome pick! Sebastian Stan could be a nice Darkling too, just with his darker hair not the lighter shades:)
But every time I look at her she reminds me from the person from Game of Thrones....so I don't think that would work...and plus Alina isn't pretty remember? @Courtney
Well she feels she isn't, Genya says she isn't bad looking when they first meat, but yeah at the beginning she's straggly but then she starts getting healthy and let's her power be released and is described as amazing. Emilia will always be khaleesi but she's also not a bad version of my Alina, not a perfect fit but the closest:)
Dany kind of reminded me a little of what I imagined Alina COULD be. Which is how I started picturing Emilia. Now that Alina has white hair it's really easy to picture it, haha.I also think Kit Harington should be someone. Maybe Mal. Maybe Ivan. Maybe a random person. I don't even care who I just love him.

Anyways, would you want The Grisha series to be adapted, filmed and showcased in theaters? Thoughts and rants please!
I personally would love to the series turned into a film, if executed marvelously! Fan casting is welcome!
I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts!!!
