How about a....Movie?
*Alina sniffs the air* "Hey, that Old Spice deodorant sort of smells like..."Terry Crews: "POWER!!!!!!" *Does his weird abs movements and flies away on his talking floating tiger*
Yes, that happened in a commercial. No, not with Alina in it.
Dream Fancast: the Darkling (Sean O'Pry), Mal (Army Hammer), Nikolai (Charlie Hunnam), Alina (Emma Watson), Zoya(Eva Green) I know they're mostly older but oh well one can dream XD
Also, Alina cannot be someone who's obviously stunning. I think she's pretty but her most attractive trait is her personality. :))
@Isabelle- Douglas Booth could be Mal. He's very attractive.
I think the fandom grossly underestimates how gorgeous Mal is. In the book he makes heads turn, women catcall, grisha swoon, even Tamar who's gay recognizes he's quite the looker.
Yet, in all of the fancast people always cast some "vanilla" forgettable guy. ;p
Colton Haynes would be a good Mal. He's gorgeous. I also like Sam Claflin though. :DLol Cari I wanted Armie Hammer as Nikolai! I've seen him play a prince before so maybe I'm biased there.
Just a little shirtless Daniel Sharman
If you aren't convinced, have this gif.
Ok, that smile is pure gold... as if those abs weren't convincing enough.Sam and Colton are approved as well. Where do all of these guys come from? I've never seen them before!
He really does have the best smile. He's just flawless. He's on Teen Wolf, which is where the majority of Grisha fancasts seem to come from these days lol. (Colton is as well; also Holland Roden and Crystal Reed)
From Teen Wolf gifs alone.Alina and Mal. (Crystal and Colton)

Alina and the Darkling. (Crystal and Daniel)

The first picture, I was like "Holy guac, it's Zoya and Mal!" I may be aboard a ship and not even know it.You are making a very compelling case for your Darkling fancast, WR. I can't even *gets all distracted*
WinterRose wrote: "Just a little shirtless Daniel Sharman the Darkling. I'm just saying I like this fancast a lot......"Shirtlessness reminded me that I was rereading Bardugo's twitter chat and saw a question asking if 'The Darkling will have any shirtless scenes' and she said
'there are three sets of abs in R&R.'
So.. either she meant the Darkling gets naked three times or she was saying it generally w/respect to all boys. So the first one was with Mal, acc to the excerpt and..
ooh, who else is getting lucky in R&R? :p
Alicia wrote: "Lol I agree with Courtney, I imagined Tom Hiddleston as The Darkling XD I thought he had grayish eyes though 0-0"
HAH! I'm not the only one... Totally did the same.

Apparently it will be a film! http://www.leighbardugo.com/news/

OMG. Hope is going to be the darkling, in a hot moment with Alina, when they just stop thinking about everything and got lost in each other *aahhhhh, I can't stop picturing scenes like that, I NEED THE BOOK*

Im so excited!!!!
I feel like the Darkling's shirtless scene needs to be VERY detailed. "The Darkling was shirtless" is not going to fly.
Wait but we have never even "seen" him shirtless in the series. Did I miss that too? I don't think it's possible that happened and I don't remember it... *rakes brain*In the "Demon" pinterest, there is a guy with a big chest tattoo. What if that is the Darkling? Will that influence your hunger for detailed shirtless scenes??
Only in The Tailor. If he had a tattoo, I think Genya would have pointed it out. When we finally arrive at the banya the Darkling isjustemergingfromthebaths, pullingacleanshirtoverhishead.Hereallyissomethingtolookat,allleanmuscleandpaleskinbeadedwithmoisturefromthesteam.
Lol sorry copied from a PDF so it's a little wonky.

Mal - Garrett Headlund/Kit Harrington
The Darkling - Ben Barnes
Genya - Lyndsy Fonseca
Baghra - Helen Mirren
Zoya - Phoebe Tonkin
Botkin- Gerard Butler

Grisha movies would be wonderful but a Six of Crows movie would be even better! If everyone hasn't read it yet it's the best book of the year! Let's all vote so that it wins a Goodreads award! Also, whilst casting in a movie is very important, the most important part of the movie is the Director, and I would want Christopher Nolan to direct Six of Crows. *cough* Inception *cough* and don't forget The Prestige. Inception=Ensemble heist, The Prestige=Victorian Magic. That works for me.
SIX OF CROWS FTW!!!
I know the Grisha movie's underway... And the producer's the one who produced HP. (correct me if I'm wrong)When Leigh held a signing here, she said there are developments but she's not able to share them yet :(
I would love SoC movie! ASDFKAKHOAGFBAUBF And Leigh had shared pins in her pinterest about her fancast (Since, she said, there are no plans for SoC movie... yet (let's hope LOL))
Do u guys really want a movie, r u guys sure, do all of you guys remember what happened to the twilight books that turned into a movie and then world hated them . And if anyone was is gonna play the Darkling it better be Sean O'pry
I am not a pessimistic person by nature, but I am at best cautiously hopeful if the adaptation sees the light of day. I loved the HP adaptation from books to films and I think Heyman has the good taste and artistic respect for authors whose books are being adapted for the screen to have the potential to make something just as wonderful for the Grisha trilogy. I even thought, reading the books that the sense of magic and child-like wonder was similar to HP.
This is going to be too-long to post as one comment, so I'll just touch ( I can write tomes, such is my love for the Grisha trilogy, so this is really just glossing over the surface for me)
With regard to worldbuilding, I hope the sense of Grisha powers won't be over-the-top or 'flashy', and Ravka to to feel Russian and not Anglicized for the sake of a Hollywood studio appealing to a largely Anglo-Saxon audience. To illustrate my point, the 'feel' of a country like France in a Hollywood-produced film is so different from the more natural, balanced view foreign films have, and the visual eye of a European filmmaker is so at odds with the saccharine, happy-ever-after aesthetic of an American's from my experience.
Casting to me has the potential for the biggest disasters. I feel like I'm of a rare breed; I never see a specific face that screams to me a character in particular. I have a vague idea, filled with details but that is about it. In particular, the Darkling.
The Darkling is attractive (Leigh has described him as 'beautiful' in an unforgettable, ethereal, not-very-human way), yes and looks to be in his early-twenties. But he's also ruthless, remorseless, brilliant and cruel. He's multi-layered, compelling, charismatic and elusive. As such, I think the challenge would be to cast someone whollooks the part, but who can handle the chops of acting like an immortal, with the wisdom and skills of a leader so brilliant and convincing that people would actually want to follow him (The Darkling's age is pretty obvious in his behavior, the way he speaks, the choices he makes). I feel like this actor would not only have to have look that dark-haired, handsome way but possess the talent for acting like someone who can lead armies and slaughter people with the conviction that he's doing the greater good and whose ancient-ness is very much a major aspect of his character. I want his intelligence to be evident, the threat of what he plans to do and how far he'll go be tangible, as tangible on the screen as it is to us readers in the books. Who has the seductive quality that has earned him armies of fans and Darklina shippers. I am one of those poeple who don't put specific faces to characters but physically Sean O' Pry with gray contacts is the closest I can see to a convincing Darkling, but he's a model and I don't know if he can deliver a performance worthy of the character and deliver it with justice. I think most importantly, it has to go to an unknown actor of the right age and with the presence to deliver a convincing performance. I think it impossible, because he is such a complex character, and this is the biggest reason why I am skeptic about the adaptation's success as an artistic interpretation of some terrific books. There is the potential that if not done properly he could come out as an all-out evil character, not the restrained, elegantly focused and intelligent that he is. At the end of the day, the worst that could happen if he's played by a 'hot' guy and construed as a man-whore a la the bad boy cliche, which is an insult to such a great character. It would be an insult also if they blew out his chemistry with Alina and made it a focal point to the point where it becomes a fantasy-window dressed romance /soap opera.
I have to eat now, but will return at some point. I h, very, very many feelings on this topic, and this just a drop in the figurative ocean. So very, very, very many feelings. :D
Ruth wrote: "I'm having a lot of trouble envisioning who should play the Darkling."This. THIS. I agree completely with it. He feels larger than life and literally impossible to cast right.
Even with the fancasts, I'm not really seeing it. Out of them all, only Sean O' Pry hints at a mysterious, charismatic and compelling personality, so intergral to the Darkling's character. Everyone else just looks dark-haired and pretty, uncomplicated and very, very young, . Some even look sweet, which would be absolutely ridiculous, and embarrassing to his character.
Not so sure about a movie based solely on the recent movie adaptations of YA books that I've seen recently...Looking at you Miss Peregrine's AND The 5th Wave
However, I kind of think a TV series, maybe on Netflix could be a lot better. Perhaps not for the Grisha Trilogy, but maybe for The Dregs duology...?

Looking for this comment everywhere, YES CROWS!!
When I first read SoC, I was pretty sure there had to be plans for a movie or a mini-series, already. I was disappointed when I found out there were not. Then I read Crooked Kingdom and by then I was sure that some jackass director must have got a kick in the head and finally approached a Production house with this, but apparently I was wrong again. So would I LOVE an SoC movie/mini-series?
Yes, absolutely. I would.
It would be fun if it became a movie but at the same time as it would not be so fun. Everyone has different pictures of what the characters and everything looks like and someone's always going to be disappointed. Especially casting actors and actresses would be difficult and painful to watch if they are totally different from what you imagined. But still, creating the Grisha world on the screen would be awfully exciting! But as long as they follow the storyline in the book and doesn't change too much.
I've always dreamed about making the Grisha trilogy a movie, it would be such a fun process!
But it's hard to really create that special feeling the book has and so on.... I don't like that many movies now days have so many special effects, it really makes the whole films just feel fake, like they've only been shooting inside a green screen studio... I want the movies to feel real, so it would be a pity if the Grisha trilogy becomes like that too...
Ian Somerhalder (especially his character Damon from TVD) seems so fitting to play the Darkling but he's so old! We need someone younger. And yes! I am all for the whole movie adaptation. But it needs to include every. single. detail. and be executed flawlessly🙈
I feel like a movie for the Grisha trilogy would be interesting to see, but that definitely depends on the budget and casting. However, I would really love to see a Six of Crows television series. I feel like the plot and characters are too complex to be conveyed even half as well as they are in the book if Six of Crows was adapted into a movie, or even a movie series. So much happens in each of the books, and I feel like dividing the books into episodes would also help with building the suspense that Bardugo creates in each chapter. So maybe each part could be an episode or two. The thing about a tv series, though, would be that the director would definitely change a few things at least and I feel like the duology is perfectly fine as it is, so I would almost definitely be upset with the changes. I still think a Six of Crows tv series would be better than a movie or movie series.
The Grisha has the potential to be a very heart breaking, morally gray and brilliant film series. Bardugo created an incredible world and compelling, richly fleshed out characters. I think like others have mentioned a rather large budget and impeccable casting (especially for the Darkling- someone who looks deceptively young in an very early-twenties way but capable and formidable) it could become something truly magnificent.
Hmm... I'm very weird about movie adaptions to my favorite books. Of course Harry Potter turned out good, and so did some others, but I don't know if I would want to see a movie based upon the Grisha and Six of Crows series. Most likely it would be a culture shock to see who they come up with for actors/actresses, and I would either agree or very much disagree with the adaption. Usually movies based upon my favorite books are either a hit or a miss with me. It would certainly be interesting, but I do not think I would like to see Grisha movies.
i will always love the grishaverse and support leigh bardugo. but i think some stories are just meant to be told through books :)
Hiba wrote: "Recently, a lot of movies have been book adaptations. A few of them have been quite successful. Anyways, would you want The Grisha series to be adapted, filmed and showcased in theaters? Thoughts..."
I would love to have these books made into movies. The only thing I would be afraid of is if the roles are all messed up. I think that the only way it would be good is if Leigh Bardugo directed it.
Léna wrote: "I'm not sure I can handle another of my favorite book series to be ruined by a movie :/..."That's so true! More often than not, the film adaptation turns out to be terrible (Percy Jackson and Eragon), or so bad that I lose my liking for the book itself (Allegiant).

The old spice came up because one of the comments said that Terry Crews should be Mal. Search Old Spice Terry Crews commercials on Youtube. I will say nothing more."
Haha, i wonder how he would be as Darkling.
