Tremendous use of the vernacular to get inside the head of characters. "The Semplica Girl Diaries" was nominated for best short story anthology for 2013 - well deserved. I thought "Exhortation" was a masterpiece along the lines of the novel "Something Happened" by Joseph Heller. The underlying themes of social strata, avarice and material envy are extremely dangerous - by which I mean do not read these stories if you are not extremely comfortable in your own skin (and socio-economic station).
