I would love to joint the Taylor buddy read. I haven't read anything by her yet, and this is great incentive!

Candi and I are planning to read Let Me Tell You About a Man I Knew starting June 15th. If you haven't read Fletcher, she is a "don't miss" author for me. Anyone who is interested is more than welcome to join us!
Sara, you are just full of good ideas! Maybe this one too! I got a copy of View from the Harbor, I am good for that one. Let me see if I can get a copy of this next one.

Wonderful, Terry. Please do!

I know, and The Silver Dark Sea comes to my mind quite a lot as well. I'm hoping this one is just as good!

Anne, the author is Susan Fletcher, and I found her book Corrag by chance a few years ago. I was doing a challenge in a group and picked it for one category or another. Turned out to be one of the luckiest discoveries here on Goodreads! Ever since then, I've been urging friends to read it!
And, I was one of those friends, who was eternally grateful to have been urged. I had a little trouble finding a copy (turns out it is available under more than one name) and I got The Silver Dark Sea and read it first. Immediately in love with this author. I now read her every chance I get.

If you like that author so much, then she's on the top of my list! I'll let you know what I think ;)
I've succumbed as well and has bought The Silver Dark Sea, thanks so much for the recommendation everyone!
Sara, I just ordered Let Me Tell You About a Man I Knew, and I have also already obtained A View from the Harbor, but I am not sure of the schedule for these Buddy Reads. I hope they don’t all start June 15, when I plan to read Fair Land Fair Land!
Let Me Tell You About a Man I Knew will begin on the 15th, Terry. I'm expecting it will be an easy read for us, Fletcher generally is. I will also be doing Fair Land, Fair Land, so we will be in the same boat there.
A View of the Harbour is not until July.

Man, is it really going to be June in only a few days? That means the The Decameron buddy read starts soon! I need to check my bookstore this weekend to see if I can get any editions that are a bit shinier/more contextualized than what I currently own so I can maximize my reading resources (it worked out well enough for my Metamorphoses read for me to try it again).
Sue, Sara and I are going to delve into a little Henry James soon. We're planning to maybe start in August, and are hoping to read both The Wings of the Dove, and his novella The Aspern Papers. Still in the planning stages, and anyone else interested is welcome!
I would like to re-read Wings of the Dove. I remember way too little of that. I don't know if I can make August, as I'm hoping to move that month. - But I'll enjoy following your posts and maybe I can jump in along the way ...
Anne, terrific to have you along!
Lily - I do hope you will find the time. I know about moves, having recently made one myself!

That is fine, Terris. We will start out with The Aspern Papers in August and The Wings of the Dove as a longer read afterward. Probably need to make them two separate reads, so those interested in just doing the shorter work, The Aspern Papers, will not be confused or think they are committing to both books.

Participation in the Portrait of a Lady read was strong despite some negative comments about the book. Perhaps we should nominate Wings of a Dove for September.

I don't have a definite date yet, nor a flat. So everything is still a little unpredictable ...
As Dove seems to be oriented more september-ish, I'm hoping I can fit it in after my move ...
Good luck with it, Lily. I hope you find what you need and get settled quickly. It is terrible when the move just seems to drag on forever and you have no feeling that you have "home".
Yes--best of luck with move, Lily! I'm happy to see the interest in Aspern Papers, and think the timing for Wings of a Dove will fall into place as we get closer. Looking forward to them!
Yay! Excited for The Wings of the Dove (although I don’t know why as I haven’t been the biggest HJ fan up to now lol).
I'm so happy to see that Anne, Lilly, Terri, Sam and Allie are up for one or more of the James buddy reads! Our best chance to get Wings of the Dove as a group read would probably be to nominate it for 4th quarter long read. if it doesn't win we could still start in in Sept if we want. I'm good with starting it in Sept or October

Thanks Sue. :))

I think that Elizabeth Taylor is so underrated.
I want to read War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy from July till November, each month one volume and then the epilogue. Savana and Natalie have agreed to join in, so if anyone´s interested to tackle this great Classic they´re invited. If a mod could please tell us if we should use the existing threads?

Yes, please always use existing threads for buddy reads. There are several threads for War and Peace - you might want to look and decide if you wish to use all of them, or just a selection for your buddy read.

Thanks Katy and Michaela! I’m fine with using whatever threads. What do you think would work best Michaela?
On a side note, I compared a lot of translations and read a lot of reviews before picking one. I ended up going with Briggs translation from Penguin. It’s a more recent translation and it’s very easy to read. I’m loving it!

I don’t think either one is the Briggs translation, but hopefully one of them is a good one!
Edit: turns out one is the Briggs and the other is the P&V.
I ordered the German translation from my library, so hope this one is good.Regarding the threads, they´re very detailed, so we can only use those, but I´d like to read one volume per month, and one month for the epilogue. I suggest everyone uses the threads for those parts she has already read. Hope that´s okay.
And welcome Candace to the buddy read! Everyone else who wants to join us is welcome too! :)
