Hi All reading/possibly reqding Odyssey in February. I am moving over the no spoilers link above. Hope to see you all there :-)
Hi everybody :)Christopher invited me to buddy read
Murder in the Cathedral, by
T.S. Eliot with him, after he saw I had it on my library's hold list.
If anyone would like to join in, we'll be reading it sometime over the next 9 weeks.

MK- glad you got the book. I don't know much about the Buddy Read system, so I will 'play along' with whatever procedure you set up.
I will be reading in the Kindle version:
Complete Poems and Plays, 1909-1950
Christopher wrote: "MK wrote: "Hi everybody :)Christopher invited me to buddy read

MK wrote: "Christopher wrote: "MK wrote: "Hi everybody :)Christopher invited me to buddy read

I love Eliot, I am so in for this! When are we all thinking?

Yay! Happy to have you join, Tonia. Anytime in the next nine weeks, I have to return my copy by then, Christopher Donut said he's flexible. I probably can't start until next weekend, on my next day off. I'm hoping to read Children of Time first :)
I found my old pb copy, and noticed the book is only 88 pp.That's why I think we can start any time.
Next weekend sounds good.

This will be my first TS Eliot ... AND I don't read much poetry, so I'm very grateful to you for your offer to read along with me, Christopher :). And you as well, Tonia! Let us know when works for you, Tonia.
Shall we aim to start the beginning of Feb then? It's a short read, so we should be able to fit it in around anything else.
Tonia wrote: "Shall we aim to start the beginning of Feb then? It's a short read, so we should be able to fit it in around anything else."My next day off will be next Sunday, or maybe Saturday, not sure yet. I can start by then, I think.
I'm sending you a friend request, Tonia, so we can easily share updates :). Christopher Donut is already on my book updates feed. (And he reads fascinating stuff!)

Hi guys, is it okay if we postpone until the following weekend? I got a pretty cool inquiry from BBC World Book Club about A Grain of Wheat. They enjoyed my review, and invited me to participate by posing a question, either via email or call-in, in their interview with the author, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, scheduled for February. (I posted about it here.)
I put the book on hold again at my library, so I could review it again/refresh my memory. So I'd like to do that this weekend, instead of Murder in the Cathedral.
Is that okay with both of you (next weekend, rather than this weekend)?
MK wrote: "Tonia wrote: "Awesome! ..."MK, by all means, postpone everything! Sounds very exciting, this Grain of Wheat discussion. How often does a GR review get outside recognition like that?
Canterbury can wait!
Is anyone still planning on reading Bleak House in March? I’m considering it, but have a lot of plans and it’s so long! If others are still buddy reading it, I might join in and take it slow over the month.
Anyone want to buddy read, Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow or Rush by Stephen Fried starting in the Ides of March ??Rush is about a founding father of the American Revolution who signed the Declaration of Independence.
Darren, Erin and I are having a buddy read for Spring Snow by Yukio Mishima in April. Would anyone like to join us?
We'll be discussing it in the thread linked here starting in April,
Hello everybody!After a long break I think I'm back on board :-).
Is anybody interested in reading
The Goldfinch ?
I've wanted to read it for ages and the film coming out this fall finally got me to buy it.

It is on my list for this year, and also on a challenge, and I have a copy waiting for me to read. I guess it depends on when we read.

Wonderful!I need a couple of days to finish Jane Eyre and then I‘m absolutely flexible.
When would you like to read it?
Brina and I had talked of doing a Buddy Read in April of Laughing Boy: A Navajo Love Story (1929: 193 pages) by Oliver La Farge. It won the Pulitzer Prize for best novel in 1930.Would anyone else be interested in reading it?

Hello all. One of my book groups, 'The Book Lovers Club', will be reading The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton for April. They are on Discord (Facebook Messenger-esque live chat mechanisms) and aren't purely a classics reading bunch, but I've found them to be a good group nonetheless. Here's an invite link for anyone interested: https://discord.gg/dswn8Vd
Note: joining will require downloading the Discord App on desktop and/or mobile and creating a Discord account. Feel free to ask me if you get stuck anywhere, as well as if the invite link isn't working.
Aubrey, I got signed up on Discord and will start the Buddy Read of The House of Mirth on about April 1. Thanks for the suggestion!
Terry wrote: "Aubrey, I got signed up on Discord and will start the Buddy Read of The House of Mirth on about April 1. Thanks for the suggestion!"Excellent to hear, Terry. If you're looking for me in the group, my username there is Kerrikor.
I'd love to do Vanity Fair. There's a new version on Amazon Prime Video and I'd like to read the book first.
A little reminder that a small group of us are planning to read The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk in June, so put it in your reading plan for about a month from now if you plan to join in.
Thx for the reminder (re: The Caine Mutiniy)! I might try to fit that in, that's a book I'd like to read :)

I'm not the best 'buddy' for buddy reads, but I would (nominally) sign on for a Vanity Fair read.
Afa wrote: "Would anyone be interested in reading Moby-Dick, or, the Whale or Vanity Fair or The Brothers Karamazov sometime in May?"I'd also be interested in a Buddy Read of Vanity Fair, Afa.

I'm open whenever, Afa.

Would anyone be interested in reading Shakespeare plays translated into Spanish. I found translations on Kindle for 99 cents/play. While I want to read here, I am afraid I will miss a response. So if you could private message me, that would be great.
Sue K. H. and I are planning to read Plainsong by Kent Haruf in mid-July. If anyone else would like to join us, we'd be delighted. I will set up the thread a bit closer to the date.

Can you please add this to the schedule, thanks."I have a library copy and started it about a week ago- it's longish and I normally read 3 or 4 books at a time so I decided to get a head start. I'm looking forward to talking about it. I heard a couple days ago that the author, Herman Wouk, has just died, so we should dedicate this Buddy-read to him.

Fantastic, Marilyn!
Fantastic, Marilyn!
I will be joining you guys, George. He was 104 and working on a new book, pretty remarkable. I have had this on my radar forever and put it on my challenge this year. Glad to be reading it with others.
