I have mixed feelings about this book. It was an emotional story , kind of Southern family saga with young lovers reuniting fifteen years later. But .... All the misunderstandings and assumptions that caused the drama and the loss of fifteen years from Alix's and Nick's life would have been easily avoided with one conversation.
Of course they were very young and naive and proud and influenced by their backgrounds and families but still, they didn't trust each other enough to communicate when things went wrong and that's sad.

Review:
I enjoyed this book, for the most part. Cole was ok, and while Marcus started of as a major dick, I ended up really liking him. As for the story, there were some really confusing logic jumps in the first 1/3 or so and some things revealed in the last 1/3 that didn't make sense or weren't really possible.
I read this without having read Styx, Law and Paolo's book so I knew nothing about them. I don't think it really affected my understanding of their dynamic and place in this story though. They play a huge roll here and we almost see more of them in bed than Marcus and Cole. Not that that is a problem since they are rather sexy together.
Overall not a bad book, but not one I would quickly recommend either.

Review: This book was interesting, it's definitely different than the Sookie Stackhouse series. It's more subtle and she takes her time getting into the plot and her characters, she focuses on building the world first. Took awhile for me to get into to but I liked it.

Review: This was a reread of #6 in the series....this was one my least favorite in the series...I enjoyed it a bit more than the first read, but still just was okay. I never felt connected with Braydon and his dilemma with his twin. I have one more book in the series to read (hoping to read during this challenge) and maybe because it's the other twin (Brendon) I will feel a little more about Braydon.

Book: Double Dare by R.L. Mathewson.
Date Read: 1/20/16
Rating: 3 Stars
Theme: Book 6 in Neighbor From Hell series

Review:
This was a bit of a disappointing read, so far this series has been great. But Darrin and Marybeth's story romance was not good. It should have been a great read, but sadly it fell short. Darrin and Marybeth have been childhood friends and Darrin had decided that he was going to marry her when he was 7. How cute is that! But Marybeth does not want to get married. I loved Darrin, just like all the Bradfords, he was lovable. The interaction between the Bradford family was awesome as usual. By the end of the book, I did not like Marybeth at all. The secret was really not the huge secret she was making it out to be and her actions throughout the book were more selfish than loving. There were some laugh out loud moments, but not as many and I am thinking it was because I was annoyed with the heroine. The story dragged from halfway till towards the end, where we finally moved on. Also there was a nice little extra epilogue of Danny which was really good.

The Return of Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Holmes, #6) by Arthur Conan Doyle

Date Read: 22. 01. 2016
Rating: 3 Stars
#6 in a series

Review: I must admit that I don't get the popularity of this series. Most of the stories work like a CSI episode, where the key information is being presented at very end, leaving Watson and the reader as the observers of the story. The plot is full of happy coincidences (if you need the martial art expert, Sherlock is the martial art expert), stereotypes and the evil-doer will almost always be a foreigner. I'm only glad that Sherlock is a much nicer person in a book and not an autistic snob like in todays TV shows and movies.

Read: 1/24/16

Review:
I had high hopes for this book because the blurb sounded great and the cover is just gorgeous. Sadly I was pretty disappointed. The author's style annoyed me. Odd phrasing and word choice, over-use of unnecessary flashbacks, miscommunication and misunderstandings galore, and a neat bow on everything right at the end. I didn't feel like any of the issues that Dax and Beck were struggling with were really addressed. It seemed like Dax's PTSD and struggles with coming out and living out were glossed over.
I did mostly enjoy the relationship between these 2 until Dax goes back home. Then even that falls to shit and starts to really, really irritate me.

This was my first book by this author and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Magic Mansion

reading 1/23 through 1/25

Review:
A great book basic premise is a reality show that is loosely based on magic. Most of the stunts that have to be done are magic related but not doing actual magic tricks. While I was rooting for one of the Main Characters to win, I am happy for Jia to be the winner. Professor Topaz (aka John) And Ricardo the Magnificent are the two main characters and the attraction is immediate even if it is a slow build to sex. the sex is hot and there are definitely people you are rooting for among the secondary magicians. very enjoyable.

Heads in Beds A Reckless Memoir of Hotels, Hustles, and So-Called Hospitality by Jacob Tomsky

Read: 1/25/2016
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
This book was written (and audio book narrated) by an authir who worked in the hotel business for many years. He told the "tricks and trades" of employees who work in the hotel industry (bellmen, front desk, room service, housekeeping, etc) and how they hustle to get better tips, repeat guests, etc, as well as what you (as a guest) can do to get benefits! I do a lit of business travel, and while i dont stay at the luxury hotels that the author described, it was quite interesting to find out some of the tricks and how to get perks. When I checked into my hotel tonight, I know i was thinking some of the tidbits, and whether it worked or not, i did get put in the "Executive" floor of a hotel i am not a frequent guest at!

Grayson's Vow by Mia Sheridan by Mia Sheridan

finished 1/28/2016
4 stars

Typical Mia Sheridan story - entertaining, sweet, lots of drama and likable characters. Big plus for this book was also a beautiful setting of struggling family vineyard in beautiful Napa, one of my very favorite places in California.
It could have been perfect but once again author has overdone with the drama just a little too much. I had also minor issues with pacing. Long inner monologues often about the same topic all over again and then very brief introduction or no introduction at all into plot changing events.
All in all, enjoyable light read.

Week #2
Spot #14
Rating: 4 stars
Review: The first book in the Miss Marple series gives us a really tough crime to solve and the storytelling continues in the Hercules Poirot tradition. If you read it carefully, you might solve it yourself and not let Miss Marple do it for you (like I did). The only bad thing is that she is the secondary character in this book and doesn't show up much in the story.

Book: The Carides Pregnancy by Kim Lawrence.
Date Read: 1/26/16
Rating: 4 Stars
Theme: Stand-alone

Review:
A good find for a Harlequin book. Christos Carides sees Becca Summer and its lust at first sight. But the good thing about this book is that he doesn't want to just make her a mistress. But to have a relationship with her. But then Becca finds out he is a Carides and she wants nothing to do with him. Then Christos finds out she is pregnancy and now nothing is going to stop him from marrying her. It was a good story. The hero was not a typical HP hero and for that alone I should give it that 1 star that is missing. He was a very likeable character. The heroine had some immature moments on the second half. But their first meeting was pretty funny. I liked the book alot.
