R7: SS Goal Diggers (8)***Winners***

Ezi, I signed up for this challenge because of my personal issues and commitments. If I don't commit myself to group challenges like this I tend to lose myself and end up not reading, and instead of making use of free time/downtime/breaks between work by reading, I go on to binge-watch shows, or surf the Internet aimlessly. When I have a challenge and a team I'm committed to, I make use of such time reading. I'm sorry if you felt that I'm trying to juggle a lot of things at the same time, and I've never skipped a week so far and I don't intend to. Fact is, I'm overwhelmed with work but despite that I did read 2 books this week, the 2nd in the series, as well as the third which I counted towards the challenge. Once I make a commitment, I don't back out. :)

Ezi or Mandy - Please correct me. Did we miss our roll?

6 of 6 Complete.

We're on spot 46, so we can read the 4th in a series, the 6th in a series or a book on the Freebies list.

Vengeance in Death J.D. Robb, #6 "In Death" series.
Good timing! I needed this for a buddy read.

I'm glad this challenge provides a respite from RL. I don't know what's going on so I wasn't sure if you could balance all your commitments. I hope RL gets better for you

#6 in a series, Sonja Blue

Dead Roses for a Blue Lady by Nancy A. Collins - 2/15/16
Rating: 4 stars
Sonja Blue, for those who aren't familiar with this series, is a half-human, half-vampire who has made it her mission to kill supernatural creatures who prey on humans - including vampires.
This sixth installment in the Sonja Blue is really a collection of short stories, the first being a tale of how Sonja's Blue ancient silver switchblade came into the hands of one of her early mentors. Another features the centuries old Elizabeth Bathory, who has tangled with Sonja before and lost her legs in the process. She now uses 'renfields,' human servants she 'rescues' from the streets, to lure victims to their eventual deaths.
My favorite of these stories is the Nonesuch Horror, which takes place in a small desert town in New Mexico. The town serves as a sort of haven for supernaturals who do not fit into either the human or the non-human world. Sonja has been tracking a vampire and his ghouls who have taken up residence in the old mine tunnels outside of the town. She joins forces with the town's sheriff, a coyotera (non-malevolent half-wolf), as well as a motley crew of ogres, half-breed monsters and Tiffany, the young girl that she saved from an abusive ogre step-mother 20 years earlier.
The last story in the collection does not feature Sonja, rather a sort of Dark Night cowboy, named Sam Hell, who advertises his spirit wrangling abilities in penny-dreadfuls, along with his Native American partner, Pretty Woman.
This was a fun (and quick) read. I think I'm two books away from being caught up with this series. I'll be sad when it's done - it's one of my all time favorites.

Week 5
Spot: 46

Book: Odd Hours by Dean Koontz
Qualification: 4th in Series (Odd Thomas)
Rating & Review: 3 Stars
I love the Odd Thomas series, but this one was not my favorite. I think I need to give it another go, however, because I listened to this one on audio and it was of the worst quality that I've ever heard. It was sometimes hard to pay attention to. However, the story was good and the typical Odd Thomas humor was there that has kept me reading this series. I just feel like some of it was over my head due to the poor quality.

Vengeance in Death J.D. Robb, #6 "In Death" series, 2-15-16 (4*), review 357 pgs.
The business of death hits close to home for Lt. Dallas this time around when several murders occur which tie into her husband, Roarke's, darker past and implicate his butler, Summerset, as the prime suspect. Whoever the real criminal is, he/she is a technological genius and/or has some inside connections to Roarke's business, home life, and personal history. It will be Eve's job to see beyond the obvious to get to the real truth.
We get a glimpse of Roarke's past as they make a quick trip to Dublin, Ireland, to deliver a body and attend a wake and funeral of an old friend. Hopefully, they will soon be able to return to his homeland for leisure rather than duty.
There are a lot of religious overtones in this one, the murderer a delusional zealot who likes riddles and to play games with Eve, whom he/she sees as an adequate rival, even after she ends up on the killer's list of those whom God has deemed should die for their sins.
"Justice, Eve, is weak and thin without the underpinning of retribution."

Team, I'm reading book #6 in the Jack Reacher series. Working on trying to finish by Thursday evening CT at the latest ...

Qualified: #6 in Fallen Angels series
Pages: 366
Completed 2/17

Immortal is the sixth and final book of the Fallen Angels series. I really enjoyed this series up until the last couple of books. I have been putting this one off but wanted to wrap up the series. While I’m glad to be done, I am disappointed with the ending of this series. Seven soul’s seven crossroads and only six books!
Jim’s determined to protect Sissy who has been in hell. Jim has a dilemma to either protect Sissy or to play the game. In Sissy, Devina has found Jim’s weakness. The only hope for Jim’s survival is true love. While this reader is a romantic and prefers true love over evil, the love triangle between these two centered on borderline gag reflexes.
Had it not been for this particular author, I may not have started this series. However, I love BDB and was hoping to see the same high energy. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I am still glad that I started and completed the series!

I like Aurora she’s smart even when things went south quickly she’s level headed and she’s tough. I really liked that she’s going to school for law even if she’s not really sure if that’s what she want to do with her life. She joined the battle really quick but after losing your one love I don’t really blame her. I also like the chemistry between her and Gavyn it just works they complement each other. I’m curious to see how it’s all going to play out.
I picked this one up ages ago as a kindle freebie but never seemed to give it a shot. However the cover has changed and when I saw it again I knew that I had to read it. Besides who doesn’t love a law student who can flight and fights against a powerful enemy to save her family. I really like the concept for Flee it’s unique and tells a fast paced whirlwind romance and battle against evil. A perfect mix of action, romance, and just enough mystery to keep you guessing till the last page. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style the story is well written and flows from start to finish beautifully. Flee is one of those books that is hard to put down I ended up finishing it in just one even without stopping. I highly recommend if you like the supernatural you check it out.

"
I agree with you, Debbie. I thought we got cheated at the end of that series. Very anti-climactic after a strong beginning.

Debbie, this was my review. I went back to read it and had to laugh. Obviously, I was very disgruntled after closing that book! haha Dawn's review

Nice review! I probably would have given it less stars had I written my review as soon as I finished the book. So glad that it's done!

It's not fair to have to chase a teammate down every single week. It's everyone's responsibility to know their deadlines and the expectations. Reminders are courtesy but we are all grown ups here.

Review: Great ending, quite unexpected. There was always something ominous about the prophecy, I thought something bad might happen to Liv anytime, but it was quite a happy ending.
What was quite implausible about the book was Hevva. I'm pretty sure most eight-year olds won't be able to reach the top of a stove (safely enough) to be able to make tea, let alone deliver a baby. That was a bit ... weird. What sort of mother would put her daughter in such situations?
