Irresistibly Yours (Oxford, #1) by Lauren Layne
Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne

Qualification: Book 1 in a series
Finished: 2/5/16
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

I absolutely loved this book. It was exactly what I was hoping for when I heard Cole was getting a book. The Stiletto and Oxford world is so much fun to be immersed in. It is so easy to fall in love with the characters. With both of these series, each book that I’ve picked up was ridiculously hard to put down. As soon as I finished this last night, I started reading the next one because I really couldn’t wait. I only put it down because I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore.

I’ve been intrigued by Cole since the beginning and I am so glad that we got to see the man behind the playboy reputation. He is so much more than that. As each chapter passed, I fell more and more for the man. By the end he earned his rightful place on my book boyfriend list. He’s almost delicious enough that I wouldn’t have a problem going to Yankee Stadium with him…although I don’t think I could root for the Yankees that might be going a tad too far.

Penelope was such an awesome character. She’s pretty much the opposite of the Stiletto women, which was refreshing and awesome. Penelope and I could be such good friends, she reminded me a lot of myself, although I can’t recite stats the way she can, I’m really passionate about sports. She’s lucky she could find a man that wasn’t intimidated by her knowledge, they are few and far between in the real world. I loved how real she was as well. She didn’t play games and was always upfront about everything except when her feelings started to change, but who would want to risk being upfront at that point anyway.

I loved the way things progressed in this book. I loved seeing all of the characters from the original series again as well. This book was a lot of fun, I had a smile on my face nearly the entire time. I am excited to continue with the Oxford series. I’m intrigued by Jackson in the next book, but what I’m dying to get is Lincoln’s book. He has secrets and I have an idea what part of his secret is and I can’t wait to see if I’m right.

I evjoyed the previous two books, but I was a big disappointed I'm this one. Ken is a rope Dom and Brady is not into BDSM. I think they avoided talking about that for too long. I also didn't think the mystery was really necessary. So while Ken and Brady had good chemistry together, there was just something about this one that didn't connect. I did however like the bonus story at the end with Owen and Jeremy from book one. I will give the next one a read at some point.

How it fits third book in the series
Emma Chase really writes A guys point of view well. I was excited to get Brent's story, because I really liked him in the rest of the books. Kennedy is a perfect match for him, and I really liked the backstory. This is really a second chance love story. Some of the best parts of this book took place in court when they were on opposing sides of the argument, and the judge handled it in quite a humorous way. I would definitely recommend this book if you are a fan of this author or of the series.

Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale
Qualification: standalone
Finished: 2/06/16
Rating: 3/5 Stars

It was a pleasant reading but has not thrilled me. I liked the ending but in some parts it was slow and tedious, there was no action, adventure, only a few twist. It was written as a diary and was the story of Dashti, a girl of fifteen years and lady companion which was closed along with her mistress in a tower. Dashti is a great charater, is courageous, ingenious, resourceful but her lady is a weak woman and hysterical, sometimes really unbearable. This book is based on Maid Maleen, a fairy tale by Brothers Grimm, I'm curious to read the original.

I've been waiting since the beginning of the series for Ethan and Calvin's book. I enjoyed this one very much. Calvin and Ethan have been series's since childhood and over the course of the last few books that relationship has been developing. These guys love each other and its shows. I liked that there wasn't much angst with the changes in their relationship. It wasn't a surprise to them as its been happening slowly.

Spending time the Destructive Delta team is always a fun time. The humour and banter is great. The ending is a cliffhanger and definitely make the wait for the next book all that harder.

I wanted to give this a read before I went and saw the movie and I kind of wish I hadn't bothered. The book was just alright. It wasn't all that exciting. I was hoping for a bit more zombie fighting action, but there wasn't enough for my taste. The book was very true to the original work though which I appreciated.

How it rates to the movie: I thought the movie was much better. I don't often say that, but I love the changes they made to make it more action packed and worthy of the big screen treatment. The movie had more zombie action which is exactly what I wanted. My only complaint about the movie is the actor they picked for Darcy. It would have been even better if they had chosen a different actor.

I wanted to be Sally, the protagonist of this novel, and spend a few days in an Amish family. I'm fascinated by Amish and this book made me learn more about their culture and their way of life. Sally is getting married but realizes there is something wrong. She decides to go visit Lizzie, an Amish girl who lives in Lancaster County with whom she has exchanged a few nice emails. But this trip will change her life forever. She discovers that her entire life is based on deception and finds her soul mate. For love of Armin she is willing to give up her life of ease and comfort to face the hard work and the simple life of Amish. The love story is sweet and romantic, and the two main characters are lovable. It's really a pleasant and interesting read. Although it is the third book in the series can be read as a stand alone.

Book Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy, #1) by Wendy Higgins 2/10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
How it fits on audio book shelf
This was a different take on Angels and Demons, and I enjoyed it a lot. Anna knows she is different, just not quite how different she is. I thought it was very interesting that ultimately she was supposed to be a bad influence on other teenagers and lead them into substance abuse, and this was something she really wasn't wanting to do. Also the effects of alcohol and drugs on her, we're very different than that on normal teenagers. But of the story was very raw and very real, especially because I am the mother of three teenagers, I could see the struggle, and the reality of it all.
There was a big info dump during the road trip, but that really worked for me. I love story, I'm still conflicted on, and I'm really, really hoping it does not turn into a love triangle, fingers crossed. I will definitely read the next book in the series, a good start to an interesting series.
Hope most of this makes sense, I'm writing it was a pretty vicious headache.

When I'm looking for a fun and relaxing reading, with Sophie Kinsella I go on the safe side, she will never disappoint me. This is a brilliant romantic comedy in which the characters are often in absurd and embarrassing situations that made me laugh out loud. The plot is a bit surreal and predictable but well built and compelling. Excellent choice to tell the story of alternating the point of view of the protagonist and that of her sister.

Book Soundless by Richelle Mead 2/12⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
How it fits standalone

I think I like this book a lot better than others, because I went in with no expectations. Some of the reviews of this book or quite brutal. It wasn't the best book ever, but I think people were expecting so much and then when I got this quiet book they were very disappointed.
It read very much like a retelling, of what I'm not quite sure. It also was more of a dystopian than a fantasy, and fact the fantasy almonds are thrown in really late, and probably didn't even need to be included. It was also a very quick read, so it definitely kept my interest. I just think if you are going to read this book go in with low expectations, and you will probably enjoy it.

Oh this book...this book totally hit so close to home at times that I almost felt like Harper Sloan was writing about me. But I think really, she was writing about so many women in the world and I hope that those women read this book and become as inspired to be happy with themselves as I have been. This book was freaking great and heartfelt and sexy at the same time.

I absolutely love Kane and Willow. I look forward to reading this book again. I know that I will love it even more the second time, if not more. I wish I could find my own Kane, but even without one, I want to find the strength that Willow found to love herself. That is really the ultimate goal.

I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I’m not a very patient person and after reading that this book was coming out 2 years after the last one, I was really glad that I didn’t read the first two books until recently. I would have been dying to finally get Wyatt’s book and although I can’t be sure, I would bet that anyone waiting would say it was worth the wait. Wyatt’s story was exactly what I was hoping. Watching him struggle after getting out of rehab was so heartbreaking. Watching him find the strength he needed to keep clean was inspiring. Underneath it all, Wyatt is a great guy who holds onto a lot of guilt from his childhood. Learning about his past was so freaking hard. My heart broke for him over and over and I just wanted to give him a hug. He deserved so much more out of life and I guess that’s where Poppy came in.

I immediately liked Poppy. She didn’t have it all that great either, although her life was roses compared to Wyatt’s. Her father was a grade A jerkface who I hope gets what’s coming to him down the road. I loved her relationship with her brother Caleb and I hope we get to learn a little more about their plans in the next book since that was kind of left unresolved since there was no epilogue in this book like there have been in the last two.

I absolutely loved Poppy and Wyatt together. Their first meeting was ridiculously hot and I couldn’t wait for them to meet again. They did not disappoint. There was a lot of emotion between them as well and my heart broke for Wyatt again when he learned about the secret that Poppy was keeping from him.

Aside from the lack of epilogue in this book, I’m also a bit sad that there we didn’t get as much Jamison and Elise. I would have loved more scenes between Wyatt and Jamison as they were friends first back in high school. Even with those tiny complaints, I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next one. I’m wondering if it’ll be Drew, the new bassist that we finally meet in this book, or Jared, who desperately deserves a happily ever after.

This is one of those books you pick up and read in one sitting. A captivating and intriguing love story set in the beautiful Scottish Highland. It 's a very romantic novel but there are many twists, many adventures and a nice touch of humor. The main characters are perfect together, the chemistry between them is really special and their dialogues are witty and funny. All the characters are well constructed, defined, very realistic and believable. I really loved the mother of Edie, the protagonist. She is really funny, at times made me laugh out loud. I also loved the relationship between the two twin sisters. It's really a great, lovable, fast-paced book

I also didn't realize how attracted he was to Katie from the very beginning. This was a cute story that had a lot of potential, but there was some weird inconsistencies in the story that had me pausing a bunch. I hope since this was an ARC that they've since been edited out. Without those, I think the story would have been better, although there were moments that Carrie really made me angry. She needed to stand up for herself more, not just think about doing it.

Ryan, on the other hand, was great. I really liked him and loved the way he was with Carrie and his sister Celeste. But the one that completely stole the show was Riley. That dog was awesome and hilarious.

This mystery is a total page turner, is so full of twists, unexpected events, disappearances. From the first pages it had captured my attention, is exciting and unpredictable, it is really difficult to find the culprit before the end.
Kristan "Stan" Connor is a great pastry, her specialties are foods for animals. She wants to expand her activities and open her first own store. Sheldon Allyn, the famous pastry chef, has decided to help her. To better define their agreements invites her to a special event in Newport, Rhode Island, where, together with other famous pastry chefs, Stan will cook for some sponsors. If they can satisfying them, they will be incorporated into a TV show. Stan has to deal with the demands of a fussy Siamese cat. The event is held in a breathtaking seaside villa and Stan is eager to see again the ocean. So she moves away from the group but she finds a dead man. He's one of the most famous pastry chefs participants. Who killed him? While police carries out investigations, the participants are forced don't leave Newport and go ahead with the project. But others pastry chefs disappear and Stan's sister contact her in an obvious state of agitation.
Stan has recently moved to Frog Ledge, Connetcticut but now feels at home and doesn't want to move anymore. Not even to realize her dream of opening her own store of pet's pastries. One of the reasons why she loves this city is her boyfriend Jack. He's a sweet and charming man and they have a really good relationship. I like their evenings on the couch surrounded by their animal friends. The author has created a really well-matched cast, all the characters are well defined and the animals are adorable.
A good cozy mystery about food and animal

I read all three books in the series in less then three days, so I think that says something about how much I enjoyed the series. It started out so twisted, with so many lies, and so many secrets, I just couldn't imagine how it was going to all work out. Both Rory and Houston, Were very likable characters, but I think my favorite was Rory's best friend Kenny. Actually all the characters in this book are in the entire series or fantastic, you either like them, hated them, or found them completely twisted. I would definitely recommend this series, and I have to say it ended the way I wanted it all to end, with a few twists and turns, and things I wouldn't have thought I wanted to happen in the previous books.

Wow. I don't even know what to say about how much I didn't like this book. Now I know that a lot of people will love this kind of book. And I have to say the writing was good, but I had a real problem with the story. I never really felt a connection between the two characters. Maybe if we would have gotten more of their one night stand in the beginning of the book, I would have been able to feel their chemistry and would not have been so irritated by what happens later on.

I felt like Helen was just a waste. She wasn't strong and I get that she was probably tired of fighting after everything that had happened to her, but with Gabriel she practically just laid there and did nothing to stop him from taking advantage of her. I didn't really get a seduction vibe from their forced time together. She seemed to reluctant, even saying let's just get it over with, when he was trying to get her to get intimate with him again. Again, I think if we had seen this other side of Helen that Gabriel was so smitten with, I might have understood why he wanted her so bad.

I wanted to like this book. I was expecting it to remind me of things like 50 Shades and the Crossfire series. Instead I was a bit icked out by the whole thing. I mean after the "seduction", she gets pneumonia and ends up hospitalized and he sends his entire family to look after her, barely letting her sister in to see her. Then instead of letting her go home, his family practically kidnaps her to some estate so they can take care of her. I think we're supposed to think all of this is really sweet, but I just couldn't.

Like I said, the writing was decent and I think I may give Dana Mitchell a shot again in the future, but I don't know if I can recommend this book. But then again, I know there will be lots of people who like this book a lot and I think I am going to be in the minority.
