LaurLa | 4039 comments Hey everyone!

I am going to be on vacation starting this Saturday (3/20) and will be gone through the following Sunday (3/27). It's a cruise so I will have very limited, if any, internet access starting mid-day on the first Sunday.

While I'm gone, would someone be willing to roll for us on Friday, March 25?

We have a roll this Friday, 3/18 - I will make that roll and do everything I can to read for it and post before I lose internet access on Sunday. If I can't, I will let you know and hopefully we can use our pass for the roll on 3/25.

Sorry to miss a week just when we're getting close, but I think I'll be back in time for the big finish!! There is a team on Spot 86 - if they roll 12 this week (landing on Spot 98), then they'll go over on 3/25. But they're the only team that close. The next closest is Spot 78, then it's us and a couple other teams at 75. There's really no hope for the rest of us if Team 8 does roll that high of a number this week. None of us are close enough that we'll also cross 100 with them. :-(

Anyway, I think that it will all work out one way or another. We'll either be out along with everyone else, or not and I'll be back and we can all make a run!

Holiday in Death (In Death, #7) by J.D. Robb
Book: Holiday in Death - J.D. Robb
How it fits: 7 in In Death series
Pages: 340
Read: 03.16
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
Another great book for the series. It was kind of sad to see Eve struggle trying to understand how to get through the Christmas season. Sad to think she never had a reason to celebrate or family to care. But also gratifying to see her accept that now she has both. The mystery/suspense was good. Had me a little fooled in the middle because I wanted to follow Eve where she went even though I knew she had to be wrong. Kind of funny how the author can convince you you're wrong when you know you aren't. Anyway, I'm about to start on the books I haven't read in the series so I'll definitely be in the dark going forward.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Week 9 / Spot 75
The Last Colony (Old Man's War #3) by John Scalzi
How it fits: 2047 on list 2009
Finished: 14. Mar.
Rating: 5 stars

John Scalzi with 'Old Man's War' series earned himself a proud place on a list of my favorite authors. The Last Colony did not disappoint me. In fact, it might be my favorite in the series so far.

Likes:
+ While previous books were packed with a multitude of planets and various alien species, The Last Colony was more subdued. I liked it, because I learned much more about those aliens we do meet.
+ Masterful banter. My favorite was between John and Savirti (his assistant).
+ Humor woven into everything. For example: we have two bad-ass Odin aliens who are named Hickory and Dickory. This always made me smile.
+ Mysteries and conspiracies until the end. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, another layer of complications was revealed.
+ Balanced amount of action, adventure, mystery, exploration, humor and emotions.
+ Complex characters who you are going to love or hate or both.

Dislikes:
- None.

If you like sf, action and adventure, then my recommendation is to start reading 'Old Man's War' series right away. Don't let mentions of word military put you off, it's much more than that.

I can help and roll the dice when you do not have wi-fi etc. It does not sound very complicated and I am sure the mods point out if I make some mistake.

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I can do the roll on the 25th, if no one else wants to, LaurLa. :)

I enjoyed the new setting and seeing Rose have figure things out for herself in Russia. I loved reading about Dimitri's family and learning about where they lived. It was great to meet new characters one of my favorites was definitely Sydney. I hope to find out more about the Alchemists later in the series. I can't wait to see what happens next.

LaurLa | 4039 comments Sorry I'm a little late on the roll this morning! Been a hectic week getting ready to go on vacation.

Thanks for volunteering to roll next Friday... whoever ends up doing it ;-) The dice roller link is at the beginning of our thread along with the link to the post your spot thread. It's all pretty simple, create a post here to track the links to each of your review posts, then post a link to that message in the post your spot thread. You can see how I've done both posts, here and in the post your spot thread.

I'll have access again on Sunday, 3/27 but likely won't check in until Monday.

Roll us a good one next week!! We're all getting close!!

I will let you know on Sunday if I haven't been able to finish it in order to post before I lose internet access. Ezi mentioned that for pre-arranged absences, we don't have to use our Free Pass. I'm going to ask for that if I can't get done by Sunday so we can still have the pass if we need it later.... Stay tuned!

Review

Detective Sanne Jensen is still affected by events that happened in the first book. She's lost confidence in herself in regards to her job. Also she has distanced herself from her best friend Meg Fielding. Both Meg and Sanne are trying to figure out how they will deal with their complicated relationship. Sanne gets a case that turns out to be more than meets the eye. I love the chemistry between Meg and Sanne and how they had to deal with the feelings they had for each other. The mystery kept my interest. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series also looking forward to reading more books by Cari Hunter.

A Man of Honor (First Responders #3) by Loree Lough
3 in series

Finished 3/24/16
2.5 stars

A Man of Honor took me a loooong time to get into, pretty much not until the last 20%, but it wasn't a terrible book. I just didn't get the story and the characters didn't connect with me right away.

The ending was terrible, but it a strange way, it made the book better in my opinion. It added emotion for me and made me feel for the characters SO much.

All in all, mixed feelings about this one. I was confused for a good portion of the story, but the ending was so heartbreaking and moving that it connected with me.

*I received a complimentary eBook copy via NetGalley for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

Review:
Such a wonderful story. I loved how the romance developed between Callie and Reese, and the role Mrs. Singletary played in helping them get together. I haven't read all the books in this series, but I don't think it's necessary in order to enjoy the book since each story can stand in its own. Recommend if you enjoy clean romances.

Blood Sense (Blood Destiny, #3) by Connie Suttle
How it fits: #3 in Blood Destiny series
Finished: 25. Mar.
Rating: 4 stars

After awesome start, this series has a continues and intense flow, and the third book was the same as book #2: action, intrigue, betrayal and noble deeds by Lissa.
Honestly, I am getting sick of how every important man in her life fails her, I hope her man-karma gets better in next book.
Recommended if you are looking for a solid urban fantasy with vamps and werewolves and mature, kick-ass heroine.

Review: It`s the apocalypse and angels have taken Peryn little sister. Raffi is an angel who's wings was cut out by other angels. The two meet and go on a search and rescue for Peryn sister and for him to get back his wings.
It was a great story, entertaining but found that the ending lacked something. it felt like this was a standalone book and not a series but looking forward to the next one.
