How did Charlotte Brontë make it easier for everyone to breathe? She created Eyre.

I came across this quiz shortly after joining Goodreads, posted in another group. At that time, I think I was only *certain* about one of the answers, but had some *educated guesses* on others.

Re-visiting it, this time, they think I majored in English :D. I didn't, I just read some great books in this group. Odd, I missed one I definitely should have remembered, as it was a first sentence in one of the books I read with this group. Oh, well.

So, can YOU guess the classic book from its first sentence?

-------

My results:

Can You Guess The Classic Novel From Its First Sentence?

You got 12 out of 17 right!
Damn! You majored in English, didn’t you? Don’t lie!

... NO! I just joined "Catching up on the Classics (and lots more!) and read some great books with some fun folks :).

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) I got 8 out of 17.. Meh. But I only just joined this group last month. Definitely looking forward to clearing up some space on my TBR list, as well as read classics that I never have before!!

Liz_ 12 out of 17 - but a fair number of those were done by a process of elimination, not because I knew the answer. :-)

Cleo (cleopatra18) | 139 comments I got 14 out of 17 right. The lesson learned was that I need to read some more 20th & 21st century American novels.

Thanks for posting this quiz! It was fun!

(view spoiler)

A couple of wild and/or educated guesses also turned out to be correct.

Meg | 10 comments 14 out of 17. Havent real all of them, but I have read enough to know which ones werent right.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

11 out of 17 but I have to admit I guessed at quite a few of them.

message 11: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 218 comments Not much of a test. I got 12/17 without having read any of the books from the answers lol

13 of 17, I too did some guessing.

message 13: by Robyn (new)

Robyn 12/17 - I'm amused because while I haven't read all the books in the quiz, the ones I missed, I had actually read. Oops?

message 14: by Tytti (last edited Apr 24, 2014 01:03PM) (new)

Tytti | 1010 comments 10/17. Not bad, considering I have read only a few (more like a couple) and there were many more (books AND authors) I had never even heard about and didn't know what they were about.

message 15: by Caity (new)

Caity (caityf) I got 12/17 also - there were 4 groups that I hadn't read any of but most of them I had. It was interesting to see the groups of books that I haven't read before, because it never occurred to me that I need to diversify. I feel like it's clothing in your closet and one day you realize that a majority of your wardrobe is green colored or something.

"Damn! You majored in English, didn’t you? Don’t lie!" Is the response from the quiz site I got. :) And yes, I did!

Yes I did major in English, and I wish I had done better on this quiz. Too many of these books were read long ago. Re-reads are needed soon.

Terris, when you finish the test, the correct answers are highlighted, as well as your answers. At least that's what happened in google chrome. Maybe it's a browser issue?

15/17 but two of those I got because I had read the other two books and knew that wasn't their first sentence. Fun test.

Terris | 4401 comments I did the same thing, Sara!
