I came across this quiz shortly after joining Goodreads, posted in another group. At that time, I think I was only *certain* about one of the answers, but had some *educated guesses* on others.

Re-visiting it, this time, they think I majored in English :D. I didn't, I just read some great books in this group. Odd, I missed one I definitely should have remembered, as it was a first sentence in one of the books I read with this group. Oh, well.

So, can YOU guess the classic book from its first sentence?

I missed the Catcher in the Rye question - Not because I didn't know what book it was, but because the cover art on my edition matched the cover art on the edition they were showing for Franny & Zooey and I just clicked without looking closely.

I also guessed Lolita for the love at first site quote which is really silly of me cause I know EXACTLY how that one starts. Wonderful, wonderful book, by the way.

I also missed Their Eyes Were Watching God, which I read just a couple of months ago... I guess I just didn't find the opening line very memorable!

I got 12/17 also - there were 4 groups that I hadn't read any of but most of them I had. It was interesting to see the groups of books that I haven't read before, because it never occurred to me that I need to diversify. I feel like it's clothing in your closet and one day you realize that a majority of your wardrobe is green colored or something.

Terris, when you finish the test, the correct answers are highlighted, as well as your answers. At least that's what happened in google chrome. Maybe it's a browser issue?
