How do you define a dangerous hero?

He's whatever the situation calls for. He's protective of what he's defined as his own and isn't looking for trouble but he's definitely not running from it. He's the risk taker that sometimes goes too far and does what needs to be done to solve the issue whether it's brains or brawn. Quite often he's that quintessential bad boy. Also in the mega challenge (option G), we do get to choose qualities for our own ideal dangerous hero.
What they said! And I especially prefer those bad boy DH's :)
I forgot to say Sexy...he makes my girl parts flutter uncontrollably.

My definition of Dangerous Hero is a hero who is capable of physical violence, can handle himself in dangerous circumstances, doesn't follow society's rules or lives on the edge of society. His concept of courtship may or may not be gentlemanly. He is obsessive, jealous, or possessive about the heroine by nature. He could be an honorable man who holds a dangerous job or a man on the wrong side of the law or who operates outside of the law. He may be morally questionable or amoral.
Danielle this is great. I especially love your description and adding the additional comments you can get a really good idea of what a dangerous hero truly is.To add to but not necessarily different a DH is sexy, hard to get close to but oh man when you do there are fireworks that won't stop. He can be a real pain, but he is smart and will do whatever needs to be done to protect the ones he cares for, within in the law or outside of it.

Arch that is very true and I love those two characters, especially Noah. Really loved how Garwood crossed over the generations with the hero's character being so similar. Both great examples of the white hat dangerous hero.
These definitions are great. You all broke it down perfectly, so I'll just add my sort of broad idea of the character type. The impressions that come to mind for dangerous heroes are those with the capacity to be lethal when the situation calls for it. But they have a soft spot for or their edges become slightly less rough upon falling in love with the heroine. They're often flawed but fiercely loyal to those whom they deem worthy, and would do anything for them. ☺
