Agatha Christie murder mysteries.
The Magicians, pretty much harry potter meets narnia, but littered with booze and random sex haha, loved this trilogy.
Throne of Glass series, Hunger Games, basically any good young adult fantasy would fit your expectations even though you do have to dedicate your time to learn the new world that the book takes place in.
The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series.
