SOLVED. Humourous Children's Chapter (Adventure?) [s]

We don't have many details about this book but we hope someone might recognise it! What we know:

- The main character is a boy
- He goes to live in a large house or mansion
- with two eccentric aunts or other female relatives.
- The cover shows a car on a long driveway, approaching the big house. On each side of the driveway there is a lawn, possibly in a checkerboard pattern.
- Published no later than 2004/5
- Probably published in the UK, by a UK author
- Probably a standalone book rather than part of a series

Bear in mind some of this might be misremembered! We've done a bunch of googling for 'boy+aunts+mansion' and variants thereof, but nothing seems to be it.

Great! I loved that book and read it at least twice, so your description jogged my memory :)
