2016 A-Z Female Character Challenge
Duration: January 1st, 2016 - December 31, 2016



The Goal:
✩ Read 26 books in which the female character's names (either first or last) begin with the letters of the alphabet.

The Guidelines:
✩ For the letter "X", any female character with the letter "X" in her name is acceptable.
✩ Feel free to join the challenge any time during the year. As long as the books were read in 2016, you can go ahead and backdate.
✩ Have fun! Be sure to check out the lists of other players...it's a great way to find new TBR's!

✩ Read 26 books in which titles begin with the letters of the alphabet.

The Guidelines:
✩ Articles like "A", "An" and "The" at the beginning of the title can be ignored.
✩ For the letter "X", it's acceptable to use any book title with the letter "X" in it.
✩ Feel free to join the challenge any time during the year. As long as the books were read in 2016, you can go ahead and backdate.
✩ Have fun! Be sure to check out the lists of other players...it's a great way to find new TBR's!

Danielle's 2016 A-Z Location Challenge
Duration: January 1, 2016 - December 31, 2016

The Goal:
✩ Read 26 books in which the location names begin with the letters of the alphabet.

The Guidelines:
✩ A location can be as broad or as specific as you want...anything from a country (or I suppose even a planet - especially for Sci-Fi fans) down to a specific building. The one limitation is in order to qualify the name must be capitalized in normal use. For example, "amusement park" would not qualify, but "Disneyland" would.
✩ For the letter "X", any location with the letter "X" in its name is acceptable.
✩ Feel free to join the challenge any time during the year. As long as the books were read in 2016, you can go ahead and backdate.
✩ Have fun! Be sure to check out the lists of other players...it's a great way to find new TBR's!

✩Feel free to update your posts if you like, but please repost when you complete the challenge - it makes tracking so much easier and reduces the chance that your accomplishment will be missed!

Based on Lanelle’s What Happened on September 8, 1966? Monthly Challenge, this challenge will take you on a trip around the Star Trek Universe. Books do not have to be limited to Star Trek novels, the challenge to you is to find a book you enjoy that fits each of the criteria.

Duration: Six months from start date

Levels:
Impulse Engines: Complete 1 task per category (5 books total)
Warp Drive: Complete 2 tasks per category (10 books total)
Transwarp Drive: Complete 3 tasks per category (15 books total)
Galactic Traveler: Complete all tasks in all categories (22 books total)

Alpha Quadrant
Bajoran- highly spiritual race, rebelled against their rulers to win their freedom: Read an Christian Fiction book or a book set in the Revolutionary War time period
Betazoid- Telepathic and Empathic race, matriarchal society, women have increased sex drive: Read a book with a MC with psychic powers or a MC that acts in a counseling capacity, a book that has a strong female main character, or an erotic novel
Cardassians- Militaristic race, seeks to expand their borders at any cost: Read a book where a MC is in the Military or read a book where the MC explores a place outside what they know
Ferengi- Businesspeople of the galaxy who value the acquisition of wealth above everything else: Read a book with a rich business person or that has a business setting
Humans- Wild Card! Read any book you like!

Beta Quadrant
El-Aurians- have the ability to sense changes in the time stream, notable El-Aurian is Guinan the Bartender on the Enterprise-D: Read a Time Travel Novel or a book with a Main or major secondary character that is a bartender
Klingons- warrior race, society of houses (could be called clans), prides itself on honor and tradition: Read a book about a warrior, a book set among a Clan society, or where a MC acts in a very honorable or traditional manner
Romulans- Deceptive, manipulative, power-hungry, and arrogant: Read a book with a major deception or manipulation of a character, or a book with a Power-hungry character, or a book with an arrogant Main character
Vulcans- race valuing Intellect and logic above emotion that live on a desert planet: Read a book with a MC that is a scientist or professor of some kind or a book where the Main characters spend time in a desert

Delta Quadrant
Borg- Villain species, Collective or Hive mentality, values Technology above everything else: Read a book where a Villain is the main character, or a book where a main character works heavily with technology
Ocampa- very short life span, dependent on others for survival, fast learners: Read a book where a main character has to depend on someone else to survive, a book where someone passes away unexpectedly, or a book where someone learns a new skill quickly
Talaxians- whimsical race with a well-developed sense of humor, very friendly and helpful, would offer their services to anyone who needed them: Read a humorous book, or a book where a character is very friendly or helpful
Hirogen- Nomadic race that views others it encounters as prey: Read a book where the characters go on a hunt of some kind or read a book where a character is searching for a new home

Gamma Quadrant
Jem’Hadar- Genetically Engineered race created in birthing chambers, require a nutrient supplement for survival (which they are addicted to), warriors of the Dominion: Read a book where a character is recovering from or battling addiction, or a book where a character has to fight his way out of a laboratory setting
Vorta- Genetically Evolved by the Founders, Face of the Dominion, Commanders of the Jem’Hadar: Read a book where a main character is or has been in command of another group of people (military commander will work here, but there are others), a book where a main character has been genetically changed somehow, or a book where a main character acts as a spokesperson for someone else
Founders/Changlings- Race of shapeshfters that seeks to control the chaos of the universe around them, creators of the Dominion: Read a book with a shapeshifter main character, a book where a main character creates a new organization or business, or a book with a controlling character
Iconians- Referred to as “Demons of Air and Darkness”, used gateway technology to travel the known universe: Read a book where a main character is or is referred to as a demon or a book where the characters travel a long distance

Notable Characters
Q/Trelane (Trelane established as part of the Q-Continuum in the book Q-Squared)- Trickster character that harasses the Enterprise-D crew from time to time: Read a book where a character likes to prank others or a book where a character is being harassed
The Traveler- Benign character involved in several warp field/time and space experiments that ultimately helps guide Wesley Crusher to his destiny outside Starfleet: Read a book where a MC guides or mentors a younger character
V’Ger- Voyager Space Probe that gained Sentience:Read a book where the MC seeks to be more than what they are
Khan- Genetically Engineered Super-Human: Read a book about Superheroes, a book involving a revenge plot, or a book with a lost love
Tribbles- asexual race that multiplies quickly with adequate food supply, emits a cooing noise that humans find soothing: Read a book where a character loves/works with food or a book where a main character has a pet cat.
