No, something like that that has stood the test of time...I wonder if the problem is the reader, not the book!
Probably not. From what I can make out it is 50 / 50 as some books are much worse than people think that they are

That's interesting Joy, what is it that you don't like? I read that this year and gave it 5 stars!

Could it be that The Three Musketeers has been done to death in film, television and even cartoon? I must admit I feel sick of it even though I haven't read it yet.

Welcome to Book Viper Joanne. I really enjoyed that one, and it was book of the month back in July:

Half way through The Exiled Blade. Not bad so far.

Ah great thanks Paul I'll have a perusal through the reviews. :)

I'll have a proper think about this and see if I can pinpoint what it is, but my immediate reaction is that I don't care about the characters - they feel remote / unreal.
Just started The Making of the British Landscape: From the Ice Age to the Present. Not bad so far, but think his travel books are better

Almost finished Kaleidoscope City: A Year in Varanasi, Counting Sheep: A Celebration of the Pastoral Heritage of Britain and Billy Connolly's Tracks Across America, and will be starting Children of God properly today
Joy wrote: "I'm reading Wool, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi which is really compelling."
I know a lot of people who have read that series and loved it.
