Hi, Sarah, and welcome! Have you read California’s Frontier Naturalists? Nonfiction, but a fascinating account of some of the earliest European and European American visitors to California and what they found here. I had the good fortune to edit it, and it has really stayed with me. I also did some research on the early years of central California for a novel I wrote.

Hello, I am Amber, and really love historical fiction obviously. :-) I love books set in Revolutionary war America, England, and Scandinavia especially. I have to admit I'm a huge historical Mistry fan, and of Victorian England as well. Right now I am reading the first man in Rome, and really enjoying it.

My first James A. Michener novel was Hawaii, which I read decades ago and thoroughly enjoyed. Then I discovered his The Source, and, perhaps because I'm Jewish, really appreciated that one. I've continued to reread both of them over the years.Maggie Anton
Hello. I'm a retired woman of a certain age living in Kentucky.I'll read just about anything, but mysteries and historical fiction may be favorites. I get really excited when I can combine the two. My bucket list includes visiting as many Presidential Libraries and National Parks as possible I also enjoy art museums.
Hello,I'm a former history teacher and love historical books that span various periods of time and locations. In addition to the many other genres that I read, I truly enjoy historical fiction and non-fiction works.
I was very excited to find this group at the beginning of the year, but haven't had time to introduce myself until now. I teach high school English and historical fiction has always been my number one genre to read and teach. I was first introduced to the genre in elementary school with the Dear America and Dear Canada series; I still use these books to get kids hooked on historical fiction. I truly love reading anything set in the royal courts before the 1900s, especially in the Bourbon or Hapsburg courts, and anything with a strong female lead. Not a huge fan of anything set after 1950.
I've never been a consistent reader, although I have tended to bounce between Tom Clancy, Nelson DeMille, and non-fiction and fiction readings that had to do with the Sudetenland. After retiring from military service which was spent primarily in West Germany and researching the Sudetenland crisis I have recently published my first novel. This has led me to several novels I have found here on Goodreads to compare my work with. I hope to continue this.

Hi. I'm new to Goodreads and really enjoy historical fiction, set mostly from the US Civil War to present. Among my all-time favs- Suite Francais, Andersonville, All the Light we Cannot See, the Alienist, the Road to Wellville. I also enjoy going back and forth with nonfiction - mostly US history. In my humble opinion, authors Hampton Sides and Candace Millard write engaging nonfiction that's truly riveting.

Until recently, I knew very little about Nazi Germany so I started reading and learned about Sudetenland. What a mistake the English and French made giving into Hitler's demands so many times. What is the name of your novel?

When young Peter Ackerman flees the Sudetenland under threat of expulsion to East Germany, he dedicates his life to returning to search for his parents. The 5k zone is the western zone within five kilometers to the Czech-West German border where NATO personnel were not allowed unless in a duty status. Peter reconnoitered this area until he gained re-entry into Czechoslovakia and learned the fate of his parents. He then assists childhood friend Trudi Kehle and her mother's escape.
The book website is www.5kzone.com. Thanks for your interest.

Hi! Great to be part of this group. Historical fiction is one of my favourite genres - I especially love stories that centre around real historical figures. Tudor England and the ancient world (particularly ancient Greece and Rome) and my favourite periods. Looking forward to connecting with fellow HF fans!

I hope you won't mind if you suggest that you take a peek at my historical novel
since I know some Canadian high schools have added it to their libraries.

Hey folks. I'm Ayush. I'm new to this group and the genre. I'm from India so March's selection looks enticing. Will try to catch up and check out the discussions.
Hello all...after authoring several Beltway thrillers and suspense novels I've dipped my toe into the historical fiction genre with Murcheson County. As a history buff I think in was a 'natural' for me, and I really enjoyed writing it. I'm Iooking forward to interacting with fellow HF authors and readers...being new to the genre, I'm confidant there's a lot to learn!

Hiya! I'm K., and I am almost certain to love pretty much any historical fiction that is pre-18th century (18th-19th century is hit-and-miss, and post-19th is pretty much a no-go for me). My favorite eras have to be the late medieval and Renaissance. I'm also an author (again, within one of my favored time periods, but you can that in my see my profile, so I won't bore you).I joined because I'm always looking for new books, and it's nice to talk to people whose knowledge of HistFic isn't limited to The Tudors, The White Queen, or Outlander. :) I look forward to discovering new books, and hopefully I can take part in a club read some time in the future! :D
Hi!My name is Bernice L. McFadden and not only do I love reading historical fiction, I write it as well. E.L. Doctorow is one of my favorites!
Hi everyone,I am Emmeline and I love to read in general, but I have a soft spot for historical fiction. I have a Geography degree, which I think is the reason why I especially love hf books about the daily lives of a bunch of people from preferably different backgrounds / social standings. I think I started reading hf novels when I was a child, but I didn't know it was an actual genre until quite recently. After reading Ken Follett's Century Trilogy, I started searching the web for similar books and that's is how I stumbled upon the historical fiction genre!
I am currently reading Sarum. I hope to finish it this month, so I can join the April group reading!
Hi, new here. Looking forward to participating.

Hi, I'm Lucille and although I joined Goodreads a while ago, it has taken me a long time to get into it. Social media has always been a challenge! I am a writer and part time teacher, living in France. I am enjoying tapping into what other people are saying about books. I started a discussion about The Liar's Gospel - if anyone would like to join the thread, that'd be great! I'm currently reading Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese because an American friend of mine pressed it into my hand. She's a doctor, so she loves the book. I'm enjoying it too, but it's not for the kind of people who faint easily, is it?

Welcome Emmeline, you'll surely find great HF books to read with this group.
Hi everyone! My name is Kelli. I am an environmental scientist from New England. I have enjoyed history and historical fiction since I was old enough to start reading novels. Between work and everyday life it's nice to set some time everyday to get lost in a good book and escape the world for awhile. :)

Hi I'm Rebecca. I like to write and watch movies. My favorite type of historical fiction takes place in the 20th century. Preferably the 1920s-1970s. I look forward to getting to know everyone and taking part in discussions.

Hi, Rebecca, since your preferred time periods includes the ’60s and ’70s, I wanted to ask if you’ve read Arcadia by Lauren Groff. Some really beautiful writing and subtle themes there!

Hello! My name is Inis! I am a writer, artist and farmer, and I love historical fiction...in fact, I love anything historical. Thanks so much for letting me join this group. I look forward to participating as much as I can!

Hello I'm Alia. I love historical fiction especially books set in Egypt. Does anyone know of any historical fiction books set in Egypt?

Hi. I'm not so new, but i know when I am active in a group I tend to read more. I guess it makes me feel I have someone to answer too. I wish I was a faster reader, so I could read more. I do listen to a lot of audio books and yes I do think it counts. But anyway I always look forward to which book will be chosen for the month and what others recomend.

Alia wrote: "Hello I'm Alia. I love historical fiction especially books set in Egypt. It deals with the finding of King Tut's tomb and I found it fascinating.
Hi, Alia, there’s a great series set in Egypt in the nineteenth century that focuses on early archaeologists exploring antiquities. It’s very funny! It’s by Elizabeth Peters, and the first is Crocodile on the Sandbank.

Hi, I'm Catherine. I live in the North of Scotland, and was the last baby to be born on the now deserted island of Stroma. I both write and read historical novels. I love Barbara Erskine novels with her time-slips into the past. I also love period dramas on TV, such as Downton Abbey. I am widowed and my family have grown up. I live alone with my two dogs. Cheers!
Hello, I'm Erica and live in Texas. I am a manager in a manufacturing plant and love to read historical fiction since it is typically so different from real life. I have two small children and live in a semi-rural area.

Hi. I'm Jude, living in Shetland, Scotland. I love historical fiction and 18th and 19th century novels, as well as fantasy and some science fiction. Historical fantasy/paranormal ticks all the boxes!

Hi, to Catherine, Erica, and Jude, Welcome to Good reads. I like historical fiction and write western American historicals often using Wyoming as the setting since I grew up on a Wyoming ranch. One of my favorite authors is Anne Perry. Hope you enjoy the group.

Thanks very much for the welcome, Mary!
I'm Sarah. I like books set during the American Revolution and Civil War. I'm also a fan of Victorian era books (doesn't matter what country) and books set in Ancient to Medieval times.

Hello, I'm Vi- I'm a big fan of historical fiction - as long as the topic is fascinating! I look forward to future recommendations and reviews.
Hi, my name is Julianne, I'm from the Netherlands and I'm not sure I'm in the right group here. I like to read cheesy romance novels, but the books that really draw me in are ones about WWII and other historical novels. Some of the books I've read that I really love are Sarah's Key, the Baker's Daughter, Girl with a pearl Earring, The Other Hand and My Enemy's Cradle. I hope these are the sort of books that are discussed here. I hope I'll find some great new books to read that are maybe a little less known to the bigger crowds.

Yes, I am of Dutch extraction, and honor my roots by eating vlokken (like them better than hagel) and aged Gouda on toast every morning for breakfast. A rather self-serving way to honor one’s roots, I must confess.

Hahaha that's a great way to honor Holland! I hate to be a cliché but I really do love cheese and hagelslag.

I am a newbie that loves history books and historical fiction. I've read some posts where the reader is looking for books in a particular time period. Sometimes there are suggestions, sometimes no one can find anything in the era. I thought it might be fun to have people put requests to have books written for them. So here it is on my blog:https://milodendy.com/readers-requests/
I can't wait to see the suggestions.
Hi! I'm a big fan of historical fan and teach high school American history. I just finished Terrible Virtue by Ellen Feldman and enjoyed learning more about Margaret Sanger's life. Several of the books on the group's bookshelf rank as my favorites, so I'm eager to follow along on what this group is reading. Thank you!
