April | 2 comments I believe I read this book in the 1980's.
here goes....

The story begins on an island in the Caribbean, time frame around 1700's (I think). The hero watches the heroine take a dive off a cliff into the water below, she is with her maid. He leaves and promises himself he will come back and look for her.

Fast forward 2 or 3 years.
Hero is invited to party or ball by her father, he sees her and is sure she is the same girl he saw before. She blows him off.

Later in book her father passes away and leaves everything to her "if she is married", otherwise the estate will go to step mother (?).

Hero arranges for her to know he has been captured and is going to die. She (naturally) seeks him out asking that he marry her as his final good deed. Which he does. Later after he is freed from his staged captivity, he returns to island and they begin a marriage. She does not want marriage and later arranges to leave with her maid to Europe. He is devastated to find her gone and leaves island to find her. Finds her. Returns to island. His father passes away and he has inherited a title and must return to birth place (I thought is was in Scotland). They move to his ancestral home. She has twins, he rejects her, she asks for forgiveness and they all live happily ever after.

I remember her name as Christina or "Tina" and his name was Renault Kinkaid. I might have first and last name mixed up or completely wrong as I have not found a book with that Heroine/Hero name combination.

Thanks in advance for any help.
