What about a sequel?

There is a companion book of short stories that takes place in the same alternative history, and I think that a few of the characters may feature. It's called The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories
However I don't think there are any plans for a sequel... If there one, I think I'd want it from a whole new, fresh perspective. I'd want to see some of the old characters a little bit maybe, but I think she finished their story really well in the first book, and I'd hate for that to be compromised.

Yes, a full length sequel would be great! Though I hope the BBC wouldn't turn it into a TV show like they did the first because I didn't like it at all..

I had no idea that The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories tied in with Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell!! Thanks for the rec! This has bumped to the top of my to-read list! ♡

Considering the time it took her to write JS&MN and adding the fact that the writing of the current novel is most likely inhibited by an illness (she mentioned something to that effect in an interview), I would say that we might still have to wait a tad longer.

it's a shame, but I would love to have a sequel. having another book of that length about the same characters or in the same world would be amazing.

I've been pining away for a sequel to JS&MN for YEARS! Who writes two books and disappears, especially when the first one blew all the reviewers, critics, and NEIL GAIMAN away?! Please, oh please, Ms. Clarke, at least keep us updated about what's to come! It's almost impossible to find anything new on the internet about you.

I'd love a sequel too, especially if it would fit the unsatisfactory situation Jonathan and Arabella were left in. (I fixed it myself by writing an extra ending chapter, as I tend to when I feel sad for characters left in the wrong situation, but it's not the same - and trying to get the tone of voice right for that book is next to impossible.)

Beyond that, I'd love a sequel just because the language and the world are so wonderful to be in. And you sense there are more stories to be told. But it's clearly such a huge amount of work that it must be a tough thing to take on.

I'd be happy with any new book by Susanna Clarke at this point. Even if it was a collection of shorts like Ladies of Grace Adieu. She's a wonderful talent

Anyhow, but yeah: totally bums me out. Not hearing any news, year later. (I've kind of given up hope--but google "Jonathan Strange sequel" every now and then, like tonight.)

I think it's one of the best books ever. Better than Harry Potter, for example, even.

It's _almost_ like a sequel--inasmuch as she kind of stole a few ideas [and admits the influence] from Jonathan Strange.

It's not as good. (And kind of funny--the few ways, copying.) Even the ending, a little.
