Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Hi all. Not dead. Realised I forgot to tell you all that I'm on holidays for 10 days. Coast trip with Lexx's family for nieces wedding, mother in law's 70th, brother in law's 50th and my birthday. 35 of us across 4 houses. Not much down time although all the kids have gone to the next town for a movie as it's raining today so books are coming out! Will check in when I can.

message 3456: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Yeah I realised today I forgot to check-in. Work was crazy before I left so I forgot a few things.
Halfway now on Wed and back on Monday. Aim is to finish current book and finish Nov read. So far failing

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments But food, drink and company has been fantastic!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I hearf yesterday that there is a fast food place in Australia where if you get an actual size tattoo of any burger they sell on your body in a visible place ypu get free food there for life no exemptions. Everyday if you want. So far 2 people have done it. Might this have been you Rusalka. You haven't done your survey saying if you have a burger tat

message 3459: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Haha Travis :D

Your story reminds of a fast food restaurant in the US I once read about, where people who are morbidly obese can eat for free. Not sure if it still operates that way.

edit: that was old news, they now have one of 20.000

Wow, that's awesome, Peggy! Is this the first one you've had published? I'd like to see it also. Must be an amazing feeling!

No, it's not the first, but it still feels like a bit of an achievement when something gets accepted :) This is my first review though (my other publications are studies I did in the lab) and also the first one that is published in a journal that is freely available to everyone (other journals charge $30 or so to read 1 article).

Oh, no doubt, to have anything published would be an incredible feeling, no matter how often it happens. Sounds like this one will reach a wide audience and definitely a relevant topic, so that makes it even more cool. Congratulations!

OMG! what do you put in a burger to be so high in calories?!?!?

message 3466: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Sandra wrote: "OMG! what do you put in a burger to be so high in calories?!?!?"

That's my thought too! I'm guessing a load of artificial stuff that we probably shouldn't be eating!

message 3467: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Apparently 8 patties weighing 4 pounds in total, 40 slices of bacon, and lots of cheese. It's a foot and a half tall. And the nurse (waitresses are all dressed up as nurses - the restaurant has a hospital theme, the burger is called the Octuple Bypass Burger) gets to spank you if you don't finish. It's all so weird.

message 3468: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments That's disgusting and weird too. I can't believe anyone could eat that much. Yuck.

message 3469: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I know Kristie. And it's so wrong that all the food is free to people who weigh over 350lbs (is that 160 kilos?). And you're not allowed to share the burgers.

message 3470: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments They should have some real doctor's on staff. It really does sound like heart attack waiting to happen. It's sad that people would put their bodies through that.

message 3471: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I read a guy died from a heart attack on his way out from the restaurant. He ate there every day, and his ashes are kept on a shelf in the restaurant. It just gets weirder and weirder.

message 3472: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Have a great time Rusalka.

I don't eat burgers or meat for that matter but just thinking about and seeing the sheer amount of food in those meals makes me feel sick. How can anyone think that's a good thing to do for your body.

message 3475: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Have a fun holiday, Rusalka. The survey will be waiting for you when you return and you can reveal whether or not you have a burger tat.

I was going to say that people will do anything for a free tat (love the show Ink Master), but I think we can extend that to include people who will do anything for a free burger.

I occasionally will crave a burger, but I like a good homemade burger, not the fast food ones.

message 3476: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I do eat the occasional burger but it's never a fast food one. In fact, I can't even remember the last time I ate something from a fast food place.

message 3477: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Same here. We make them at home every now and then. I think I end up in a fast food place maybe once a year, and when we do I have something other than a burger.

message 3478: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments By the end of our week in Mexico, I was really wanting a burger. The buffet did offer burgers, wieners, and fries so I trotted right over there on our last meal, only to find they had swapped out the burgers for cutlets. Oh well, the fries tasted good.

message 3479: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Oh, that's terrible and creepy too.

I hardly ever eat fast food. I always feel a bit yucky after eating it.

I don't buy the story with the heart attack (I do believe you, I just don't believe THEM; it sounds like publicity -morbid, but publicity none the less)

Sarah | 18550 comments Still no working engine :-( i think it might be a slow process trying to get ork out what's wrong. We're ready placing the fuel filters and hope that does the trick. We're off to Amsterdam this weekend so it's not looking like we'll be up and running before then. Luckily we've been able to borrow our friends generator (as ours doesn't want to work either) so we can charge our bwttaeries and have some power at least. We're lucky that we only just moved so we have just short of 2 weeks to get it done so we can move again. And failing that, our friend of ill have to tow us. Hmm. Could do withoit this.

message 3486: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments You try swearing at it good and well enough to make a sailor blush and kick it? Hmmm. Got no other suggestions that isually works

Hope you can get it fixed, and have fun in Amsterdam!

Can't you freeze it, Peggy? I usually double my recipe of pumpkin soup and freeze half of it for when I'm too lazy to do more.

I did that :) I could never finish it before it spoils. But we have only a small freezer which is already quite full, so I try to get some of the soup out of the freezer again ;)

message 3498: by [deleted user] (new)

Sending Happy Thanksgiving wishes to everyone.

Finally sitting down to watch a few moments of football in between cooking. After reading the posts about the 20,000 calorie hamburger, I am not feeling too guilty about dinner, as we tried to keep things healthy. Well, with the exception of Costco pumpkin pie and whipping cream. : )
