I reckon. While we can get worked up and passionate about subjects, we are always willing to be respectful and listen to each other and work through things.

I appreciate the time that both times people on all sides of politics have taken to explain their views, as well as their systems to those of us from other places, particularly to overly curious people (me). While I don't agree with everyone's views, at least we have a safe space to talk about them.

I'm sorry if people have been hurt by any of these conversations, but I do not believe anyone here has meant to be hurtful, more carried away in the moment and the sheer amount of passion and emotion that has been generated with this particular election.

Everyone here is valued no matter their views. But I do still reserve the right to get you to explain your views to me to the 10th degree if I don't understand :D

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I decided to delete my recent posts with political content as they probably didn't properly convey anything constructive. Based on the Trump I repeatedly observed in this campaign, I could only make sense of the election outcome by concluding that his supporters must find his frequently offensive behavior acceptable. I don't see how he can overcome the divisiveness that he himself repeatedly promoted. He came across like a big bully, and I don't trust him to lead our country with intelligence and integrity though I'd really like to be proven wrong. It perplexes and embarrasses me that he is our country's President Elect. I hope he will select his cabinet wisely and that his administration will advance our nation's economy and security while promoting liberty and justice for all.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I really like this quote from Bernie Sanders: "To the degree that Mr. Trump is serious about pursuing policies that improve the lives of working families in this country, I and other progressives are prepared to work with him ... To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him." Sigh. I wish that he had been the Dem candidate, not Clinton.

message 3309: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Me too, TJ. I think he'd have run. Trump ran on his message, after all. "It's a rigged system." It sure is. Rigged for the elites. Trump IMO is another elite, same as most would acknowledge the Clintons to be. He just has a different worldview, and (apparently) differing political views.

I also think Joe Biden would have been wonderful. I have tremendous respect for both men. I respect Hillary's intelligence, but I never much liked her. It's hard to get people to vote for someone they really don't like. She's such a polarizing figure, though, that many votes were against her, rather than for her opponent. I voted against him rather than voting for her.

Anyway. No point in "woulda coulda shoulda" thinking now. We just have to hope for the best.

Yes these are weak attempts at non political posting but I'm trying to move away from politics. Which is hard at the moment. But necessary.

Sarah | 18550 comments I might just have a functional shower by the end of the weekend. And another way of charging our batteries through the winter now the solar is in decline. Good times. :-) Another weekend spent in diy stores. And it's the second time we've bumped in to other boaters in said stores. lol.

I watched all the you tube video suggestions from yesterday. Cute, funny and disturbing.

Joan Did anyone else see the news article about CUCKOOS who migrate from China all the way to Africa for the winter. One flew 2,300 miles over the Indian Ocean, no rest stops. Amazing.

I'd definitely say your camo worked! I think deer hunting season starts here next week. I'm not a hunter and neither is my husband so I don't really keep up with it. My sister's husband is though and where they live was having an early season opening, maybe just for the weekend or something... My 11 year old niece was super excited about it because her dad was taking her Saturday afternoon. I haven't talked to her to see if they got anything though. I've never wanted to go hunting, I'm too soft hearted. I'm pretty sure I would cry.

message 3319: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I would cry too but I do understand hunting if you are going to actually use the meat. For sport and trophies, not at all.

message 3320: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We hardly ever eat venison. So many non hunting people love venison it all walks out of our freezer. I don't kbow who all takes it but it all gets eaten. I mean my wife gives it to them they don't just raid the freezer themselves

message 3321: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments My grandmother used to make a stew that had venison in it that was absolutely delicious, but other than that I've never much cared for it.

I'm going out of town for work tomorrow and dreading it. I have a 5-6 hour drive in a car with one of my bosses that I don't enjoy talking to very much. Then the same drive home the next day... Unless I have to stay an extra day, in which case I'll ride back with another coworker on Thursday. We are going to a seminar tomorrow afternoon and then we have a Department of Labor audit Wednesday morning. And sometime while I'm there I have to train two employees how to use our new time keeping program. It should be a very busy couple of days. Except for the drive, I'm really dreading the drive!

message 3322: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19142 comments I don't recall ever having venison.

That could be tough drive, Kimey. Hopefully, he/she is easier to talk to outside of the office. That's an awful long time to be in the car with someone, if the conversation isn't comfortable.

I have an insanely busy week this week. We are closing on our house Wednesday and moving a week from today. I think I have more non-work related appointments this week than I've ever had. I have four just tomorrow, plus at least 10 more Tuesday through Saturday morning already. I'm not sure when I'm supposed to pack!

message 3323: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I would hate driving with someone that long that I don't know all that well. Good luck!!

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Congrats on closing on your new house, Kristie! That is exciting. The moving part, not so much. Packing and unpacking is one of my least favorite things to do. Well, the unpacking isn't as bad, getting to make your new space your own, that is fun. Hopefully your move and appointments go smoothly.

Today is my dad's 60th birthday so I'm heading over there after work for a birthday supper with him and my mom. I got him a toy for his birthday! It is a remote control drone airplane type thing. Looks sort of like a drone, but no camera. He's going to love it. He may be 60, but never too old to play with toys!

message 3325: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I missed that part, congrats, Kristie!

message 3326: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19142 comments Thanks, ladies! We're very excited about it. It's just going to be a crazy couple of weeks. My daughter has a bunch of follow up appointments from her ER visit last week, plus just a lot of other stuff going on. I will be so relieved once we are in the house and can settle in. Moving is one of my least favorite things to do too. But, we plan to stay for a long time and I'm looking forward to making it ours.

Happy birthday to your dad, Kimey! Sounds like a fun gift! I'm sure he'll love it.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Happy birthday to your Dad, Kimey. And grats on settling the house, Kristie!

And if you ever want to get rid of vension, Travis, I'm happy to come and help. Love it and it's so very expensive over here. Lexx's sister used to sell Vension and Juniper pies at her bakery and they were super popular.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Congrats on your new home, Kristi, and good luck with packing and appointments.

Hope the drive isn't too awkward, KimeyDiann. Maybe you can listen to the radio some and not feel like you have to make constant conversation. Or maybe you could listen to an interesting podcast. AND what a fun gift for your dad! Sending good wishes for a happy birthday : )

My dad used to make a venison chili that was pretty tasty. He sometimes went deer hunting, and he taught his three kids how to shoot and handle guns safely. Glad enough for that experience tho I don't own any guns or participate in any gun sports. I like fishing some tho.

Tejas Janet - First thing I thought when I read KimeyDiann's post was what a waste of some great audiobook time! I love long drives for just that reason.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I hope the move and the trip go smooth with you, Kristie and Kimey!
I'm back home after my trip to Uruguay. I had a great time. My grandma (who was turning 90) absolutely enjoyed her birthday party, and everyone here at home survived. :)
I'm still trying to come back to "life". Why do vacations never seem to be enough?

message 3337: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Glad you had a great visit, Sandra. That's wonderful you got to be there for your grandma's 90th birthday : )

Coming home after vacation does take a few days adjustment. Plus, i bet there's playing "catch up" after being away. I know that happens when I've been away. There's piled up mail to go thru, laundry to do, and lots of housework, chores, and errands. No wonder it takes time to adjust back to the normal routine!!

message 3338: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Indeed! The first thing I tried to catch up with was my kids assignments and school work. No many surprises, but some things to get done.
The house looks pretty normal now (I came back last Thursday), and I expect to recover my reading and GR time soon. I missed it!

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I got home late last night and am just catching up on the discussions. I enjoyed my holiday in Mexico. The highlight was swimming with the dolphins. I have a big black bruise on the back of my thigh when I was smacked by one of the dolphin's tail. I was being pulled by two dolphins, holding onto their fins. One's tail connected with me. I have a wee souvenir. :) They are such amazing animals.

The other highlight was Tapiaki (sp?) at the Japanese ala carte restaurant in the resort. Instead of sake, they used tequila, and we all got multiple shots of it - tilt back your head, open your mouth, and the chef poured it in. We had such a good time!

There was some drama, but I'll blame it on the full moon.

message 3344: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Welcome back, Janice. Really glad you had a good time in Mexico! The swimming with the dolphins sounds amazing, despite the bruise! It is a dream of mine to one day swim with them too.
