Sarah | 18550 comments Love the picture Janice. That's great you got to meet her. I always find it hard to adjust when I first get back from a festival. Regardless of what type of festival or whether I've camped or not. It's a different pace. Obviously lack of sleep doesn't help either. Or recovery from the alcohol consumed ;-) I hope you settle back in soon.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Great Janice, that you got to talk to Ruthie Foster and have your picture taken with her! Sounds like you had a great time.

I would love to see an otter in the wild too, Sarah.

We had one clear night to see the meteors, but there is too much light where we live. We would have to drive out into the countryside and park in a field to see well. Not saying we couldn't but I am too stuck in my bed now too. When we first moved into our house and there were not so many streetlights, we used to drive down to the elementary school and lay out in the field until we got too cold.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Why is it that I have not been making much progress on writing my papers this summer, and now that I have promised myself an afternoon off (because it's finally nice and sunny and warm and I thought I could re-energize myself), I suddenly have all this writing inspiration? Maybe I'll take my laptop outside and work a but more, and take tomorrow off instead.

It happens a lot to me too when I've been not doing much all day, and then when it gets close to 5pm I start getting inspired..

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's so nice to work outside! It's warm, there are colourful flowers on the table, chirping birds, some butterflies and bees flying around, picking some homegrown lettuce for my sandwich. Perfect!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments It happens to me too, Peggy. As soon as I recharge a little my batteries, I feel like "doing things".

Sounds lovely, Peggy! I hope your homegrown lettuce is nice. It's sunny and quite warm here today too. We have got lots of homegrown tomatoes that have just ripened that are now ready for picking :)

I have not, but they seem pretty good from their YouTube videos. Glad you had fun!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Otters! Rain! Pineapples! Sun! Camping! Meteors!
So much fun by everyone!

Sorry to be so awol. I am hoping life becomes more normal soon. At the moment everyone's going crazy, and on top of that I'm running around trying to convince people to lend me an obscene amount of money. I honestly think that since I got hit with the flu I have read a grand total of 12 pages. I am at least beginning to check on every day or so now, small steps.

Sorry for delays on badges and buddy reads. Bad mod *smacks nose with newspaper*

Sarah | 18550 comments I finished all the dirty diy over the weekend. Babywipes and strip wash (had to go collect water from the water point) were all i could manage. I was able to get my hair washed at a hairdressers yesterday which was lush. I felt a right herbert asking to just have my hair washed. Oh well. The water tank is basically ready for it to be filled up again so we'll have water again then. While still on the subject of water tanks, i opened ojrs up this morning to continue the drying of the paint inside. Promptly forgot i had done so. Later on, i went to open the cratch (which is a canvas awning style thing which goes over the front of our boat making an inside area) and fell straight it in. I'm such an idiot. And so lucky. Came away with a few scrapes and bruises and aches where i jarred things but otherwise intact. It could have been a lot worse. At least the tank was empty otherwise that might have been a shock.

Edit: @Kristie - only friends nearby live on boats and i wouldn't dare ask to use their shower. They might have to move their boat afterwards to get more water which would put them out more than just me using the shower for a spell. Sometimes you have to take the boat a good couples miles before you reach a water point to fill up from. It will be heaven when our shower is installed. It will happen. I know it will.

Kristie | 19148 comments Oh, that's too bad, Sarah. That's definitely putting someone out more than just a simple shower. I'm glad you were able to get your hair washed though. That must have been relaxing after all that work! Also, glad your water tank is almost ready. That will be a relief. Lucky you weren't hurt too badly when you fell in!

message 2517: by Joan (new)

Joan Sarah, congrats on polishing off the DIY & bouncing back from the water tank. I hope you keep a diary, your adventures such as mink falling from trees, bashing down chimneys and toppling into water tanks have the makings of a great adventure like Louisiana Longshot or romcom like Must Love Otters.

message 2522: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @Joan and Janice - I don't write a diary. I have at various points in my life but I've never been any good at sticking to it. I know a few boaters who have blogs where they detail their adventures. I like the idea but think that i don't want too many things about me all over the internet plus nobody would be interested anyway. I kept a log of our maiden voyage but that's it and that was just for us.

message 2523: by Joan (new)

Joan Sarah, I meant a diary for yourself so that someday in a distant future when you have time to write your own books you'll have material.

message 2524: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ah OK. As you mentioned a couple books I thought you meant writing my adventures for publication. lol. I do have a very good memory (for now) though so I guess I rely on that, assuming I'll remember everything I've done and experienced. I might have to rethink that when I get a bit older.

I had a reply for this - but I forgot what I was going to say :)

Sarah | 18550 comments Lol Joan.

I'm off to Beautiful Days music festival this weekend. We'll be camping. It's supposed to be stormy with a lot of rain so it could be tricky. I can't decide whether we should go tonight after work and set up tent in the dry with a better spot or tomorrow morning when we'll have to do it while it's chucking it down. I am looking forward to it though. I think i might need to take numerous changes of clothes.

message 2527: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Definitely go tonight Sarah! Enjoy the festival!

message 2531: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks guys. I went last night. Made it in to the site with 20 minutes to spare before they closed the gates. Put tent up in the dry. Good job too. It's windy now and it's been chucking it down all night and morning. I've not left the tent yet. it's nearly midday. Bands start at 2 today and I think the rain is supposed to ease off around 1. But I think we're in for a muddy one. :-)

Your adventures and stories remain here on GR for all of us to read and remember, so you really ARE writing them down. ^_^. I am glad you were not hurt badly too, in your fall into the water tank. Yikes!

I hope you enjoy the music at your concert, in-spite of the mud.

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments Thank you all. I am much better just in time for the dreaded family reunion. I love my family but when you get almost 100 Chicago Italians in the same place... Every year the same people fight and make up over the exact same things. It is fun but not relaxing

message 2543: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments We call ours family rebellions instead of reunions. It sounds like one is in the works for next summer. Enjoy your's, Renee.

message 2544: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments I like "rebellions," Janice! :) We're probably due for a big, crazy family reunion soon too.

message 2545: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments The sky is looking a little freaky right now. The clouds are black and so low, I feel like I could reach out and touch them. I don't think I've ever seen them that low.

We had more rain, and another flash flood last night. I got home just in time to get drenched in the short period of time it took to run from the car to the door. I didn't think it was as bad as the last time so didn't even bother looking out the window. Then this morning, there were pictures on facebook. They're calling it Flood 2.0.

message 2546: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Stay safe Janice!

Good to see you back Renee :)

We have a heatwave coming up. After a chilly 19 C (66 F) on Sunday and 23C yesterday, today will be 28C, and tomorrow until at least Saturday is going to be 30+. Thursday is expected to me warmest, with 35C (95 F), which is pretty rare here.

It seems like it's been a summer of extremes. We had several cold and rainy days, and now the other extreme coming up, but only a few 'average' days which were sunny and between 22-25C.

message 2547: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Same is happening here Peggy. Today is supposed to be hot. 27C I think. Not sure what we have in store for the rest of the week. Yet at the weekend while we were at the music festival, it was windy, kept raining and was a bit on the chilly side at times.

Despite the rain, we had a good time at the festival. We're back home now. I really didn't want to get up this morning. Back to work today. I could have done with an extra day off to recover. I think we've decided to give the festival a miss for a while. It ends up working out quite expensive what with tickets, getting there, food and drink. Then the recovery time required which seems to be taking longer as we get older. So I think we're going to go abroad for a long weekend instead as we'll get more from it. Obviously if the lineup for the festival in the future is amazing at some point, then we can rethink.

message 2548: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I used to go to one or two festivals a year when I was younger. Lately I've been going once every two years. Like you say, it's getting more and more expensive, takes longer to recover, and I'm less excited about those very basic camping amenities than I used to. When I was younger I didn't care.

message 2549: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Exactly Peggy! To be fair thought the facilities were the best we've found at a festival. I find it's the not being comfortable that gets me. The floor is hard to sleep on. The floor is hard and/or wet/muddy to sit on. I end up with a numb bum and a bad back by the end of it. And when I'm hung over, I just want to lay down and be comfortable and not do a lot.

One act we saw which was very entertaining was Hattie Hatstar - she sings comical songs - she has YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZXY...

message 2550: by Peggy (last edited Aug 23, 2016 02:17AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ah yes, that too. Now that we all have cars we usually go to festivals by car (as opposed to train), and we bring lots more stuff to make ourselves comfortable ;-) We have camping chairs, gas cookers, and one of those tents with no sides but a roof, to protect us from rain and sun.

I guess we're getting old ;-)

Hattie Hatstar sounds funny!
