LeBron James. Basketball player just signed a deal worth about $600,000 a week. 3 year 100 million

Tasha Wow, just wow! I can't even imagine that! haha

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's just insane.

I'm reorganzing my GR-bookshelves. I'm making one shelve for what I own, and one for what I want to read but don't own. And while doing this, I'm removing all books from my tbr that I'm no longer interested in.

message 2454: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes i need to go through my shelves. I even have a maybe shelf. I might get rid of all of the ones on there. Perhaps shift some from wishlist on to there that I'm not sure of for future culls.

I've had a very productive, but very messy day so far. I've removed the old chimney (with a mallet), swept the flue, put a new chimney on. I've emptied our water tank completely and started scraping it in preparation for rust treating and painting over the weekend. Then once done we should feel more comfortable drinking from it. But I'm all dirty. And we have no water to wash it off with. Perhaps i should have thought about that a bit better. Oops.

Kristie | 19148 comments Go, Peggy! I Ned to do that too.

You've been very productive today, Sarah! Anywhere local you may be able to get cleaned up? Gym? Friend's home?

message 2456: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That's a good work day, Sarah! I think you've earned the rest of the day off! ;)

I love clearing out my shelves but haven't done it in a long time. Once I get some downtime I may do it!

Woah! That is an insane amount of money!

message 2458: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I could really do with going through my wishlist shelf and culling some books from there but I keep getting distracted!

message 2459: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I did the rearranging of shelves but there were so many books I don't remember adding and I didn't go through all of those. Just some that I recognized and knew I would no longer read, and some with very low ratings that I had an extra look at. I removed maybe 15.

Sounds like hard work Sarah!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Hi all. Been a bit crazy this week. So sorry for the absence.

We had our 16 hour long cheesemaking course which was fun. Made some really yummy things but then have only eaten cheese all week before all the soft cheeses turned. Have some marinated cheeses, camembert and cheddar still developing. So exhausting though, I need to use my brain more.

Then work is busy as usual, but then on top of that we may have done something impulsive, although not out of the realms of discussion, and ended up putting an offer on an apartment on Wednesday night when we inspected it. And by Thursday morning, we had it. Oops. Always was in the plan, but not this week, and possibly not for a few years, but great buy, great rent, great location and we can do it. So I'm soon to be a slum landlord. But super busy now getting stuff together that hasn't been pulled together in preparation.

On top of that this week it's been sister in law's 30th, brother submitted PhD, other brother got engaged, and stepfather submitted PhD. We're not competitive in this family, just do everything at once it seems.

I need a lie down. I may read at some point, but I think a long hard nap is in order first after the past 3 weeks.

message 2461: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Wow Rusalka, that is a lot!! All good things though :)

Enjoy your well-deserved rest!

Enjoy your well deserved nap.

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments Day One of the Bear Creek Folk Festival was awesome! kd Lang was the finale last night along with her new group case/lang/veirs. We weren't supposed to take pictures, but my friend and I made our way to the stage and got a few before being chased away by security. Call us the rebels.

Bruce Cockburn plays today on the main stage at 2:00. Ashley MacIsaac is the finale on the main stage tonight. There's 4 stages set up and lots of performers. It's supposed to be 27C today. Woot!

Kristie | 19148 comments Wow! That is a busy week, Rusalka! Enjoy your rest. :)

I just dropped my grandson off from his summer visit and got home yesterday. My house is SO quiet. I don't quite know what to do with myself. lol

That festival sounds like a lot of fun, Janice! Glad you got a picture, you rebel!! ;)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Rusalka, everything shine and bright around there, it seems! Enjoy!

Janice, enjoy you rebel girl! :)

Kristie, you can borrow a couple of my kids if you want... Just, you know... to fight abstinence. :) I want school to start right now!!!

message 2468: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Sounds like a busy but good week for you Rusalka. Cheeses sound fab. Apartment sounds like a good opportunity. :-)

I'm really excited! I saw an otter today. Right next to our boat. And it caught a fish. I'll feel ok now when we move in a day or so. I would have been disappointed if I hadn't got to see one while we're here. Also heard a cuckoo for the first time. Saw 3 meteorites last night plus a satalite. This is my new favourite spot.

message 2469: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Haha, Sandra! We went to the movies in the middle of the day today just because we could. :)

Sarah - Those are some great sights!

Travis,
It looks like you folks are getting some storms upstate - I hope it falls gently and relieves the drought.

message 2473: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Congrats, Rusalka on the apartment!

Sarah, that is awesome that you got to see an otter! Sounds like a great place to have parked the boat!

message 2474: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We did get some rain. 1.3 inches here. Not the monsoon they called for. Although Oswego and the mohawk valley got hammered bad. Flooded streets and such

message 2475: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Whenever we used to go fishing in a canoe at night on a peaceful lake the otters will come right veside you and splash the water. Scare the crap out of you amd scare the fish. Just about give you a heart attack though

message 2476: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I would love to see otters in the wild. You were lucky you saw it just on time, Sarah. In any case it seems you will visit this place again in the future.

message 2477: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds really cool, about the otters!

Anyone here who has a wishlist for ebooks on amazon.com? I made a list, but I just can't get them sorted on price. I click the button, not much changes, and prices are still mixed and different from the actual prices when I click on the book. The book that gets sorted as cheapest for example has a price of $9, but when I click on it there's a kindle version for $4. But I have cheaper books on the list and they are somewhere on another page. The function does work if I select the few paper books I have on my wishlist, but with the ebooks it just seems to search for every format and then it still is not ordered in a logical way. I know Sarah is using amazon.co.uk, and there it works perfectly.

Anyone any experience and suggestions for what I'm doing wrong?

I have no experience but I know a bunch of people had trouble with wishlists on audible and it turns out they were redoing the website and once the new one took o er problems were resolved. Amazon owns audible so may be sonething similar

message 2480: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Rusalka! Wow!! Busy bee you have been!

Sandra, kids here in Hawai'i went back to school August 1st! Craziness!! I'm not sure when they get out for summer but going back August 1st seems so soon!

We went out to the Dole pineapple plantation yesterday :)

Got some dole whip, yum yum yum!!! It's basically pineapple ice cream and it is amazing :) we also saw some sea turtles on the north shore. Beautiful day all around :)

I have not been up to reading at all. The books I have been reading on my kindle have been free through Amazon and nothing has been keeping my attention much, oh well.

message 2481: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments My wish list doesn't seem to have that problem, Peggy, so I'm probably no help. I only have kindle versions added to mine and only a few at that. I'm not sure, but maybe it has to do with the edition you have added? I don't know why the kindles wouldn't work properly.

message 2482: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments Day two of the festival was great! There was an Australian group - The Mae Trio. Have you heard of them, Rusalka?

I have some new favourites - Shakura S'aida, Moshin Zaman, and Lee Harvey Osmond.

I'll be headed out shortly for the final day. I'm so looking forward to tonight's concert. My very favourite blues singer, Ruthie Foster is being featured.

message 2483: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks everyone :)

I googled a bit and so far it seems to be a common problem without a solution. Apparently it once worked, but at some time amazon changed some features and now it presents the cheapest book first, and there are A LOT of books that have some sort of edition for only 1 cent, excluding shipping.

Maybe it will work again someday. It seems such a useful option, to see prices per book format.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments My spouse and i are home from camper van trip on quiet river banks. Got up 3 a.m. several mornings to view the Perseid meteor showers after the moon had set. The peacefulness and time outdoors seems to have helped heal my aching heart after having to euthanize our longtime family dog 2 weeks ago.

Glad you got to see an otter, Sarah : ) So many adventures you're having and memories you're creating with your life on the longboat.

Janice, the festival sounds awesome. Hope the last day is great, too!

message 2485: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I"m so happy to hear that the trip was a restorative/healing one for you, TJ! I would love to see some meteor showers, I bet that was amazing.

Have fun on the last day of the festival, Janice. :)

message 2486: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments The meteor showera should still be visible Tasha. The 11 and 12 were supposed to be best days. Try 4 am thats usually when I see them best

message 2487: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Maybe I will. I do have to get up early this week for my daughter's camp so what's an hour or two earlier for a day?!

That's exactly what we did. Worked great.

message 2491: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments If I had realised the meteorite shower was still going on I'd have gone out last night as it was such a clear sky. Oh well.

That's annoying about the common complaint Peggy. Fingers crossed they sort it soon so it wasn't a waste of your time.

Glad you got some rain Travis and it wasn't too much. Thought of you this week. We're out in the country at the moment and the farmers are harvesting around the clock. We've had a lot of dry weather. I've seen it all done but not so consistently as I normally see it when driving by somewhere but living out in it, seeing it all the time has given me a different perspective on it.

message 2492: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I considered getting up for the meteor shower on the night when it was said to be most visible here, but I really like my bed too much at 3 am to get out of it. I'm also not sure how much we would see, living in a city. Also not helping that we had to get up again at 7 the next morning.

The festival sounds great Janice!

message 2493: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Travis of NNY wrote: "Thats the spirit. And hopefully it won't be cloudy. That would be a bummer"

ha, definitely enjoyed my bed and sleep too much too! I was up in the middle of the night and thought about it but went back to bed.

message 2494: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I saw one meteorite during the festival. It was neat how it fell right above the stage.

I had a great day yesterday. I actually met and chatted with Ruthie Foster. I was so excited! I'm a major fan of her. She's the reason I bought tickets to the festival. I got her autograph a bit later and had my picture taken with her.

What an gracious lady, and superb performer.
