KimeyDiann | 2174 comments All of your trips sound amazing. I figure my trips are pretty much over for this year. I might fit in a couple of small trips though, I do still have vacation time left at work. I have some friends that are going to Florida at the end of August and they are trying to talk me into going. I really want to, but I haven't been following my budget too well lately and I'm just not sure I can justify spending the money right now. It wouldn't cost all that much since it is a big group going and splitting the cost of the rental house, but I'm still indecisive.

I had a quick round trip flight to Charleston, South Carolina and back yesterday for work. I left my house at 5 am and got home a little after 7 pm. I'm exhausted. I went with some coworkers on a private plane our company rents on occasion. It only seats 6-7 people including the pilot. I was nervous about flying in that little plane, but it was all good. Now I'm trying to convince my husband into us getting our pilots' licenses and buying a small plane like it so we can take more vacations. But, he just laughed at me when I told him. LOL.

When we flew to Thailand we stopped at Abu Dabi and I LOVE the roof inside the airport - all the coloured hexagonal tiles.

@Rusalka Thanks ;)

Stephanie Hi everyone! We are safe and sound in Hawai'i! We are enjoying ourselves and getting our home squared away! I found a used bookstore that has super cheap books so I am content, lol! Blake flew great, a little shaken up when I picked him up at the animal holding facility:( he had been a Velcro dog since we brought him home but is slowly adjusting :)

message 2360: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Great Stephanie! Now you all three deserve a good rest!

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I'm glad you all made it safely to Hawaii, Stephanie! Sit on the lanai and have a lovely cocktail.

message 2363: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thank you :) I need a cocktail on the lanai for sure!! Just need to get the alcohol!!

Sarah | 18550 comments We went to bradford on avon yesterday, a town we often moor our boat in (although we didn't take our biat this time). There was the first ever floating market there. There were boats selling their eares, jewellery, candles, baskets etc etc, an ice cream boat, cafe boat, demonstration stands for basket making, carving spoons and knotting fenders. The towpath was heaving. It was a great day - sunshine, lovely people and a nice vibe. It coincided with a civil war reinactment event too which was pretty cool. Loud cannons, horses, pikeman, etc. We missed the main battle but saw the prep and all the tents where people were cooking and making things. Very interesting. It's on again today. Would love to go again but we have stuff to do unfortunately.

message 2365: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm glad you arrived safely and that Blake is adjusting too. I guess you guys found a place online before you rented? I'm just curious how it all fell into place I guess. :) It's so exciting, it feels so exotic to me! enjoy!!

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I love the idea of a floating market, Sarah.

message 2368: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yep, Tasha! We applied for a rental online and it all fell into place. There are downsides to not touring a place before you see it but oh well. We will put up with the limited AC and cockroaches for the next year and hopefully something else will open up that is not ground level lol ;)

message 2369: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I am hanging this morning. Last night we went around to our friend's boat for "a drink" before we came back and made dinner. Beer, mead, ginger wine and rum later it was 11pm and no food had been consumed! And on a school night. It was a good night though and we met some lovely new people. Thankfully I've not got to work today but my partner did. No idea how he managed to get up and go at ridiculous o'clock.

message 2374: by Joan (new)

Joan Congratulations on completing the move Stephanie - has Blake tried "shave ice" yet?

I may never be able to move again - I shifted 4 yards of mulch and about 30 patio pavers this weekend -- very slowly. I am feeling very old and flabby tonight.

message 2375: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I know how that feels Joan! Just wait until tomorrow. You better take a pain reliever before you get out of bed in the morning, if you can. ^_^

I want to redo a garden bed along my front drive but cannot convince myself that I want to tote all the wall blocks from the back yard to the front yard to do it. Oh, besides digging out the old rotted wooden 4 x 4s and 2 X 4 caps.

message 2376: by Stephanie (new)

We will though :)

message 2379: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Is there a new one? Or do you mean the changes in color and font from some months ago? I had no idea there was some kind of transition period or a choice which one you use.

message 2380: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I'm talking about the one that has been around in the last month as a beta. Back then all members had the home page changed to the new one, but you still could change to the old site again. That's what I did after I tried the new one for a few days. But now the old site is not gonna be an option anymore, and everyone will have the new site. I know many people loves it, but I don't really like it. I'll get used, but still, I wish I could keep the old site.

message 2381: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Peggy, if you never changed back to the old site, then the one you are using is the new site.

message 2382: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, I must be blind, I haven't noticed anything! I've only been online on the app for 3 weeks of the last month, but since starting work again I've been on the desktop version a lot too. I'll have an extra close look tomorrow.

message 2383: by Tasha (new)

Tasha They are rolling it in throughout the week they said so you just may not have gotten it yet, Peggy.

I really like the new format! My only big issue though is that I would prefer to have the discussion page on the home page and not the status updates. I don't think there is a way to change that setting. Other than that, while a big thing, I love the bigger book covers and the left side showing my currently reading books, books recently added to my tbr...all in big bookcover format. I liek that.

message 2384: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Haha okay, I'll wait and see.

The app also has only status updates on the home page and no discussion posts, and that's one of my main irritations (together with not being able to read spoilers) in the app.

Is headaches what you suffer, Travis? Or is it a muscular pain?

Muscles. I'm a tylenol for headaches kind of guy my wife is a ohysical therapist she advises my ibuprofen usage

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "Muscles. I'm a tylenol for headaches kind of guy my wife is a ohysical therapist she advises my ibuprofen usage"

Yes, I think ibuprofen is better for muscles. I have both of them at home, both are good, but they definitively work better for some things. I prefer tylenol for fever, for example.

Muscle pain is so hard to fix when you can't stop and rest. I'm sure it is not comparable with what you are suffering, but a couple of weeks ago I lost sensibility in my left pinky and ring fingertips. It scared me, but It seems it is a contracture in my neck and/or shoulder. It is much better now, but still there. I know I will have to do something about it at some point, but who has time for that? Sad but true.

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments We have had a wild storm here. It started several hours ago with driving wind and rain, lightning & thunder. The road alongside my apartment building has been closed off because it's flooded. There's another apartment building across the street and down from me and its parking lot is completely flooded. The water is up to the top of the wheels of the cars parked there.

My parking lot is high and, well not dry, but not flooded. I went into my office to look out the window and.... my credenza along the window was wet! The window has been difficult to close lately and it apparently wasn't sealed in the top corner. You can't even see a gap. But, it was enough to let the rain in. grrrrr!

message 2392: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, no, Janice! The water just seems a magnet to your office. Is the window a result of the water damage from before? Hope the rain stops for you soon!

message 2393: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Funny, I have the new format today :)

I think I can get used to it. I will miss the discussion posts on the homepage, but in general it looks nice. I like that there are now also book descriptions on the homepage, but it would have been even better if you could read all of the blurb by hovering with your mouse over the cover or the text, now you still need to go to another page to read the full blurb, which is not so different from how it used to be.

message 2394: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yikes Janice, that sounds bad! I hope it has blown over by now.

message 2395: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's the middle of summer, and we have grey skies, rain rain rain, and a whooping 17 degrees! I'm working from home today in long sleeves and my warm slippers. Something's wrong here.

message 2396: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments The same has happened here Peggy too. I'm hoping it starts to pick up again soon.

That storm sounds crazy Janice. Sorry the rain found a way in. We had a similar issue 2 nights back when it rained heavy all evening /night. Not a window though but our side hatch. Not sure where it gets in exactly but it runs down inside the wall and drips from the gunwale. So annoying. We've tried fixing it but nothing seems to help. Crazy we can't find where the problem is.

message 2397: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We are in the worst drought we have ever had around here. Rained 4 times in July totalling 1.5". Last time it rained was July 13. We did get a tenth of an inch on monday but crops are so near death at this point we need sone serious rain. Some corn is just dead already. 10 day forecast ahows hot and sunny. Might as well move out west if this is our new weather at least they know how to handle droyghts other places

message 2398: by Peggy (last edited Aug 03, 2016 04:55AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds difficult Travis. It was the other way around here, so much rain fell in June that harvests and crops were destroyed because the fields turned into lakes. There was 200mm (8 inches) of rain in my area in a few days, while the monthly average for June is 60-70mm (2.5 inches). That amount fell at once several times. Damages are huge and insurance often doesn't cover it, putting a lot of farmers into trouble.

I hope it will rain soon in NY!

message 2399: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments Here's a news article about the flood. The first picture is about a block over from me.

The storm sewers have had a chance overnight to deal with the vast amount of water that was dumped on us, and things look back to normal.

message 2400: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Gosh, that was a bad flood, Janice! I'm glad to hear the storm sewers were able to get on top of it and that things are now back to normal.
